Characters: Small girl (SG) – the birthday gal Man1 – the girl’s dad Woman1 – the girl’s mom Gal1 – the girl’s elder sister Guy1 – a grad student Guy2 – a software professional Gal2 - a software professional Gal3 – a post-grad student Myself – you know me!
Just an extract of the conversation(the part where I was involved…sort of made me feel so silly after the whole incident that I wrote it down):
Man1: How’s cake buddies? Gal1: Lovely! I like the cherries! (There is small laughter) Woman1: So Gans, how are your office timings now- a-days? Me: Well, very surprising to say, it’s quite free now. It’s just that we have had a product release recently and till we get the new specs, we are allowed to take some breath. Will get hectic by Feb second week. Guy2: Hmmm…. then you start off with your discs and pubs??!! (There is laughter) Me: Yups! Undoubtedly! Hoping to find new partners this time! (There is laughter) Gal2: Why not! Why not! You ditched me after the first few discs! Me: Aha! That’s too much of an expectation! (There is laughter) Guy2: Hey! Heard that there is boating at Star City! Woman1: Is it? Gal3: Newly opened, I believe. Me: Yups! Just opened last week after the circus troop left. SG: Circus! Oh! Cool! Were there animals too? Man1: Absolutely sweetheart. Elephants and all. SG: I want to go there! Man1: Next time, without fail! (Some break to the conversation) Gal1: I find you often at the CD shop. How many movies did you watch last week? Me: Well, may be around eight or nine. Gal1: Which one is your favourite? I mean, among all that you have watched till date? Me: Well, I would definitely say Notting Hill Guy1: Wow! That’s quite a romantic one indeed. Me:Certainly! Gal1: Oooo! Such films make me go ‘goo goo’ at times. (swaying hands up-down as if flying) Guy2: I can see that!! (There is laughter) Guy1: But, don’t you think that her kiss was pretty quick? Gal2: Why do you ask that? Expecting something similar from someone, is it? (There is small laughter) Guy1: Hmmm… Me: May be Julia’s reaction was that of love at first sight! (There is small laughter) Guy1: May be. Gal1: How many times have you watched the movie? Me: Fifty seven times. Gal1: Fifty seven times! Are you joking? Me: No. I am not! (There is laughter) Gal2: You can certainly watch romantic movies as many times as possible. (There is a ‘Oooooo!!’ and laughter) Me: Well, indeed she is rite! What’s the point in watching suspense or thrillers more than once? Guy2: Yeah! Rite. But, tell me when did you manage to watch it so many times? Me: Well, I saw it first time when I was in college. Upon returning home in May, to get rid of the boredom, I got the CD. And watched it daily over and over again till I started going to work in June. Used to watch during the initial days of job, when the work was less-hectic. Guy2: Oho! That’s how it goes! Me: Yeah! That’s how it goes. I love that song ‘When you say nothing at all…’ from the OST by Ronan Keating. Guy1: Wow! I bought ‘When tomorrow never comes…’ from Planet M. Gal2: What is that appeals to you the most about the film? Me: Hey! Come on…this looks like some interview with Stephen Hawking! (There is laughter) Me: Nevertheless. I feel that both Julia and Hugh Grant have done a wonderful job in the movie. Both of them are so down-to-earth! Inspite of being a very famous person, she speaks her heart out to him in the plainest of words. ‘I am just a girl asking to be loved’.And then those table-conversations when Julia visits his home the first time…they are so natural…so fantastic…I mean, so down-to-earth! And I like that scene during her interview, when he comes into her room as a journo. Gal1: Yeah! From the Horse and Hound! (There is laughter) Me: Yeah! That’s so very funny. And he starts talking of horses and hounds in her latest movie, which was supposed to be shot in space! (There is laughter) Me: And I like the final press conference scene too. It’s amazing! Lovely! Gal2: Indeed.
(And thus they spake…)
