Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

An elephant came into town 11 weeks ago, found out Alice Ayres did exist in Postman park, and Bah zhang isn't all that difficult to make. Adrian and Cheryl had their degree show, and so did I. Drag queens came out romping in the streets, and I got burnt along the Thames. Its good to meet up with Vince again, and I did made my pilgrimage to Wimbledon today. alone.

There, 9 pictures in 11 weeks. This chapter is finally complete.

I've started this journal more than 3 years ago, and realised that most of my entries are either of me lamenting about my depressing life story, or frivolous talks in broken engrish. Hence, as I embark on a new journey tomorrow, I've decided of end this journal. properly la. (what sort of a stupid nick is towelette anyway?)

Wish me happiness! :)

Music:

Here is your horoscope for Monday, April 17:

You've been turning this situation over and over, and you just can't see a way out. Well, why not heed a friend's advice? He or she may have just the right idea when it comes to a romantic or work dilemma.

had a busy busy month or so. exhibtion after exhibition. work after work. have done

- memento wall (work in progress show)
- transport for london ad (d&ad competition)
- karaoke instructional video (d&ad competition)
- kim's shoot (finished yesterday!)

also cleared all my work for beauty world (for andy in chicago) and also cleared all queen ping's stuff (okie not all, still got programme bookle to do but i havent received anything from them yet! phew!)

my sis was in town for a week. she n her bf are now holidaying in paris now. how i wish i can go paris with that special someone too.

okie alot of pics to come. havent put my cam to such hard work before! had a super long n tiring fashion shoot yesterday. never shot 10 outfits in a single day before! ( okie its actually my first fashion-fashion shoot la. previously always help lance nia, but never shoot myself before) n the stupid weather didn't help. was drizzling the entire afternoon, and we had to shift indoors and outdoors many many times. n the strong wind toppled my flash gun n its now spoilt. :( argh! so sad. actually wanted to move around the vicinity but there simply isn't time for it. and becoz my flash wasn't working, i'm not complete mobile. had to find electrical point for the light. and the cable linking the camera to the laptop was getting wonky. so had to stick to brick wall as backdrop. hehe.

but at the end of the day, i'm pretty happy with the results. very minimal photoshop needed! (just abit of colour correction)

i wanna shoooooooot more! i love doin portraiture. any volunteers to model? hehe.

Just had the private view of our work-in-progress show a few hours ago. hmm... felt abit weird coz i felt that alot of 'powerhouse' folks didn't show much of their work. oh well. at least i got to see what the other folks have been doing. here are some pics.

Image hosting by Photobucket

random pics. it is held at westbourne studios. big space, but bad lighting. not sure why they didn't turn on their flood/house lights, and used photographic flood lamps instead. dunno.

Image hosting by Photobucket

sorry la, me and my butter fingers. but thats jane on the left, one of my bestest folks from BAGD. shes's showing sabiye ( hardworking coursemate from denmark whom i know since first year) how her golf book works. interesting stuff. its really nice to see the progress in the works of friends over the past few years (while mine just degenerate into thin air).

Image hosting by Photobucket

and that's troy setting up his kinetic automatic paint dripping bookmark/namecard churning device. another hardworking chap.

Image hosting by Photobucket

okie thats mine. had this idea for quite a while now, so i am kinda glad i finally got down to doing it. basically i ransacked my entire room for stuff which i can feed through my printer (from letters to envelopes to birthday cards to calendars to wrappers to tickets.. anything) and i overlay alot of pictures from my past 25 years of existence over them - family shots, neoprints, passport photos, alot alot la.

Image hosting by Photobucket

another view. i am going back tomorrow with my tripod n flash to take more pictures. i think it can be a nice backdrop for another series of my self portraits. hehe. and i wanna spend some time viewing the animation/AV works. oh! n i premiered my 4 min long royston-tan-inspired short. hehe. shall go sch tomorrow and ask for feedback.

okie. z..z.z time. nites people.

i've developed a liking for deserted buildings ever since that block 15 along short street has been hoarded up, awaiting demolishing ( that block just beside the new lasalle, along rochor canal rd?).

Image hosting by Photobucket

but nothing beats Gunkanjima (battleship island), a fortress like island off the western coast of japan. it was a mining island since the 1880s, but has been abandoned in 1974 when the mines shut down. It is called a battleship island coz of its hight sea-walls. so chio! can die.

Saiga Yuji has this excellent collection of photographs on Gunkanjima. mind blowinggggg. do check it out.

the closing ceremony of the winter olympics is showing on tv right now, n as anti-nationalistic as i can be sometimes, i think the NDP committee can do a much better job la. those italians are trying to do a carnival thingy, but everything is so choreographed n broken up that its kinda weird. have a few acrobats coming out, then must stand for national athemn. then back to carnival performers, and then have to all stand again to raise flag. alamak such bad programming. i think i will get more high doing the singapore fun dance. hope beijing will do a better job in 2 years time. just have 1000 girls in tight cheongsam to play the erhu, n 1000 female pugilists to do chi gong n maybe 1000 more babes to do lion dance can liao.

sian.

shall go cook my dinner. hmm.. pasta bake. here i come!

okie before i forget here are some peektures.

the vs aep department were asking ex students to contribute some artwork for postcards, n heres what i did. crapped it out la, as usual. its supposed to be inspired by this verse from 'fingers of the cape' by edwin thumboo, an ex victorian himself.

I rise in a phantom city
where a dark veils hangs careless,
merging with star-whispers.
Miracles of moonlight dart,
choke the shadows.
-from 'Fingers of the Cape' by Edwin Thumboo

er... told u i crapped it out ma. doesnt fit the poem, but dun care la.

n here's wat i did for cake's new show in may, Queen Ping. spent alot of time on it coz i didnt like wat i did for them, n all those stuff which i did wasnt exactly wat they wanted. but eventually i opted for this pseudo-swedish look, n they seem happy with it! so yah. me happy too. haha. hopefully it will look much better when its printed out. should appear at all sistic outlets soon! brian is doing multimedia n set n performing in it! should be good!

okie dinner time!

took one hour off last night my portfolio prep to watch the finals of the pairs figure skating at the winter olympics, and i was totally blown away. figure skating as a sport has always been plagued with drama (remember the salt lake city hooohaaa 4 years ago? where the far superior canadians was awarded silver initially, but was eventually awarded joint gold with the russians?)

last night also drama drama. the russians of course, was fantastic. i literally gave them a standing ovation in my room. but wat more exciting was watching the chinese couple compete. they were the last team to perform, and suay enough, had to perform immediately after the russians. and they gungholy opened their routine with a quadruple throw salchow (a move never attempted successfully in any major competitions, a move their china mates attempted unsuccessfully 4 years ago), and true enough, they fell. very unglam. legs open wide, and her knee hit the ice hard. ouch. she cringed in pain, the music stopped, and she went to the side to weep for like 30 secs before deciding to continue their routine. and because the ruling said they had to pick up from where they stopped, they had to skate round in circles for the music to run, before continuing their routine. and the amazing part is, they managed to complete the rest of their routine seemlessly, and were eventually awarded silver.

amazing la these chinese. such fighters. it makes me wonder, if i am in her shoes, whether i will continue with my routine after such a terrible fall? and will i still deliver the rest of my moves without a glitch?

but of course, the russians are still far more superior la. 12 straight golds since like wat, 1964?

Image hosting by Photobucket

okie for all those lonely dudes/dudettes out there who are in the mood for love, heres an exciting clip from the last winter games 4 years ago. which of them u think is more deserving for the gold medal?

http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/5081342/detail.html

must go watch la! their flips n spins and turns and throws and lifts are simply AMAZING.

dunno where to start, so i shall let the peektures do the talking.

had a send off dinner for mitch last week, where he treated me to dinner at nandos chalkfarm. tank que u! his mum was in town a couple of weeks back, and we caught him in ENO's madam butterfly. good stuff, cannot bluff! strong visuals, lacquered floorboards, even though the director , anthony mindhella, made some pretty controversial decisions. i am still pretty cool with the idea of butterfly's son played by a japanese bunraku puppet, but the part where the dancers had to lay on the floor as flowerbeds is a huge no no for me la. but overall, the singing was intense, the seat was excellent, and i guess minghella and his team really made a beautiful opera. yes, i didn't doze off. but i was hoping that puccini could write in a part for a counter tenor. i really loved the voice of the counter tenor that was in handel's jeptha. hmm... opps! forgot to mention that mitch is coming back in march for lion king! wow wee!

yenling was in town a while too. we went to watch sylvia by the royal ballet. blew more money away, but its worth it la. my first proper proper ballet here. saw it again that day on bbc (tamade, if i have known there are showing it on tv, i wouldnt have watched liao), but i guess it is nothing compared to seeing it live. being in the royal opera house is already quite an experience. i was half expecting the diva from fifth element to appear and sing her diva song when the curtains rose. haha. coz they filmed the actual scene at the ROH (i think).

okie more peektures, i hear. okie... huishih was in town too!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

she was here for a day before making her way up to huddersfield, and i was really really happy that she came. it was a bit awkward for me at first la, coz i was still in a bit of a moody mood, but things got better, and before i realised it, she left and i miss her.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

we went to tate modern to see the newly hung permanent exhibits and also rachael whiteread's installation piece at the turbine gallery. i was blown away by the sheer size of the whole work. seeing it in pictures doesn't do any justice. even so, i didn't exactly like it la. even though the huge turbine hall was filled with the casts physically, it didn't exactly relate/connect to me as much as the use of light and mist in weather project, or the use of sound by bruce nauman's work (cant remember the name la). i soooo suspect that tate will commission some video artist to do a multi-media/video installation work there next. projection will be the next most feasible way of filling up that space i think. so yeah. brian, get ready yr proposal!

yes. me acting cute. moving on...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

went to eat at stockpot. had the most satisfying and delicious lunch i ever had there. shall make it a mental note to bring all my visiting friends for a meal there next time. cheap and really yummilicious. couldnt be better. also went to national gallery to see tom hunter (i think all photographers need to be rich before they can exhibit. their prints are hugeeee) and also dragged her along for a quick tour of the scheweppes photographic prize at national portrait gallery. must take part next year la. the standards this year is pretty appalling.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

also went to makan bayswater duck with adrian, tingting and hunn. ate soooooooooo much rice. die. i think i am becoming a chingy chong chinaman. "P and for the first time, we got good service at 4 seasons! amazing. and the place is like filled with singaporean students and sq crew. haha. all go eat xmas duck!

talking about christmas. had a xmas dinner at ch's place last week. me being the fat cook that i am, volunteered to make some fancy roast chicken with rosemerry and thyme and honey and potatoes and mushrooms and brussel sprouts and carrots and onions. turned out to be not bad. can still eat. and never lao sai.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

before (above) and after (below)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

we cracked so much jokes that day. haha. was a really enjoyable evening. "D if only i got a big place like ch.. i will throw sushi party every other weekend man! hmm.. maybe i should have a mini sushi gathering this sat. must ask adrian out coz tingting is leaving tomorrow. he will be so lonely ma, so must ask him out and get fat with me together.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

thats eugene (ex designer but still talented la) ch (mr dropdeadgorgeous archi wiz) and david (mr today who just turned 12 this year... hehe) engaging in some intellectual talk. too cheem la they all. me dunch understand half the time. haha. just nod and.. stuff my face with food.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

thats nat (fashion guru from csm) and pan (another archi wiz from aa). married couple. hmm.. i think i shall kidnap their kid next time. sure very cute one hor? jh u should have been here man. party without u just isn't complete.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

thats rong rong, another fashion diva from csm. hehe. i was evil and tried to take a pic of her with double chin, but failed miserably coz... she doesnt have any. not fun one. "P

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

last but not least, thats hunn, mr lady-charmer-stylo-mylo-nice-jeans who is here for hols. ") very nice guy. hehe. am glad that i finally got a chance to talk to him properly. hmm.. next time i see him must ask him for autograph and maybe sell on ebay (and must make good friend with him lo, so can have free lodgin if i go visit at netherlands. haha. kidding.. kidding.. i noe u r reading this)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

okie lazy to type liao. stayed up till 130am for nothing. shall end with a pic of me and adrian and jh during happier times. yes, thats a skinner version of me on the right, as compared to the fatter version now. fat-fat-chubby-cheeks dun care liao la. shall go sleep.

received a mag 'the designer' in the post this morning, and i was like 'eh but i never suscribe ma'. only moments later, i realised that its the magazine of the chartered society of designers (CSD), and i am receiving this magazine coz i submitted an entry for their student awards thingy before summer (thanks eugene!) and yah. kinda 'won' a student membership. hehe. so now i have the right to use 'a student member of the chartered society of designers' on any correspondence or CV. dunno for wat also la, but i'm not complaining coz 1. it sounds pretty good 2. they put my name in the member listings on the magazine. so high class! even though i am clueless about what the CSD is all about.

yes choonie i AM a himbo! (dun need to act liao)

Get to know yourself better @ http://quizbox.com/personality/test82.aspx

Your view on yourself:
You are intelligent, honest and sweet. You are friendly to everybody and don't like conflict. Because you're so cheerful and fun people are naturally attracted to you and like to talk to you.
hmm.. maybe ba. but me intelligent meh?

The type of girlfriend/boyfriend you are looking for:
You like serious, smart and determined people. You don't judge a book by its cover, so good-looking people aren't necessarily your style. This makes you an attractive person in many people's eyes.
dun agree le. i dun think i look out for serious, smart and determined people la. hmm.. i think i like someone who is sweet, fun and easygoing too. yah la. they dun have to be goodlooking i guess :D

Your readiness to commit to a relationship:
You are ready to commit as soon as you meet the right person. And you believe you will pretty much know as soon as you meet that person.
hmm..quite accurate i think

The seriousness of your love:
You like to flirt and behave seductively. The opposite sex finds this very attractive, and that's why you'll always have admirers hanging off your arms. But how serious are you about choosing someone to be in a relationship with?
HAR? me flirty & seductive? er... this one i REALLY dunno le. do i? can someone tell me?

Your views on education
You may not like to study but you have many practical ideas. You listen to your own instincts and tend to follow your heart, so you will probably end up with an unusual job.
wa quite accurate. been telling a few of my close friends to 'follow your heart' yah lo. and looking at my pontang nj days, i soooooo dun like to study.

The right job for you:
You have plenty of dream jobs but have little chance of doing any of them if you don't focus on something in particular. You need to choose something and go for it to be happy and achieve success.
how to choose? i like to do so much things. difficult leh.

How do you view success:
You are afraid of failure and scared to have a go at the career you would like to have in case you don't succeed. Don't give up when you haven't yet even started! Be courageous.
orh. will bear this in mind when i grad this year. hmm... so wat? are they encouraging me to quit design and dance for madonna?

What are you most afraid of:
You are afraid of things that you cannot control. Sometimes you show your anger to cover up how you feel.
how terribly true.

Who is your true self:
You are mature, reasonable, honest and give good advice. People ask for your comments on all sorts of different issues. Sometimes you might find yourself in a dilemma when trapped with a problem, which your heart rather than your head needs to solve.
aya.. this heart/head factor. hmm..... dunno leh. dunno.
