I bought Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix the other day. I had to go to two bookstores before I could find a copy. It is crazy how popular these books are. I know people ranging from ages 9-45 reading them. The book itself is amazing. It is just as good as the previous four if not better.

They are fascinating books that will definitly go down in history as one of the best series of all time.

I wanted to share this with the group (it's been cross-posted). It's a very striking "piece". I don't know who this "person" is or where it came from, however the "interview" has been duplicated (or born) in a Godspeed You Black Emperor song entitled" Blaise Bailey Finnigan III". I tried my best with the grammar, etc., but most of the structure is necessary for the full effect. Enjoy!

mmm... I am enjoying my coffee this morning and thought I would share :)
I want to say thank you to everyone who greeted me into the community! I feel welcomed!
You know what I think is interesting.... I live in a college town and there are tons of coffee places, but none of them are 24 hours. I think a 24 hour coffee place would do very well, and would be much appreciated!
For late night cramming and study groups, they take place at I-HOP... it's fun and all, but I hate leaving smelling like smoke, cause I-HOP always smells like smoke. (Thats right I'm not a smoker)
So just out of curiousity, do ya'll (yes I said ya'll, I'm from Texas remember) have any 24 hour coffee houses that are pretty cool?
Well, I am going to go enjoy my morning coffee and write a paper that is due at 12pm, heh I haven't started yet, I was stuck staying up late studying for a test.... oh well, no use complaining about it.
Have a Good Day everyone!

Hi! I just joined this community. There isn't much to tell about me. I am 22 and recently graduated from college (Wilkes University) with a BA in English. I am currently looking for a job and started a journal in order to ease the unemployment blues. I look forward to being a part of this community.

The CoffeeHouse!! What a name! Is it just like it sounds? Can we all just sit around and sip on coffee and talk about absolutely nothing for hours? Sounds great to me! Would anyone like a cup? I'm buying!

Hi, all! I am so glad that there is a community for people over 18! It'll be nice to read entries where everything is spelled correctly. Like cool, probably, or sandwich. :)

I haven't met anyone on blurty yet and am anxious to meet new people!

Hi everybody! I found this community after experiencing the frustration of meeting kids on Blurty that I could've babysat for when I was in high school. Is it safe to assume you feel the same way? :) Anyway, just wanted to make my presence known; would love to get to know more 18+ users!

book [30 May 2003|04:17pm]

I started reading "The Feminine Mystique" the other day for my history class. It is amazing and I can't put it down. It's about women in the 50's and how being a house wife was what "all" women wanted to do. I can't imagine getting married at 17 and having 5 or 6 children and staying home all day. I'm sorry, but waxing the kitchen floor doesn't get me excited. I learned that thousands of house wives were depressed and seeked medical attention. They didn't know who they were and what they wanted out of life. If you haven't read this book, I would recommend reading at least a chapter or two. Believe me, you will learn a lot.

SF Chronicle Reporter Fired For Anti-War Protest

As someone who worked in a newsroom, I can tell you that it's ridiculous to expect that any reporter will be unbiased. Plus, Henry is a technology reporter, and there is no way that his political views would have an impact on his coverage of the latest Palm. Ridiculous!

I've worked with Henry in the past in my job, and I can tell you that he was always a knowledgable and professional person. This whole thing smacks of a double standard - if he was arrested in a pro-war demonstration, this never would have come up.

I don't want to get into the whole "Jewish media conspiracy" thing, because that's a joke. But the bottom line is - Henry Norr was a Jewish reporter with pro-Palestinean views who made them known in the newsroom. The editor of Chronicle, Phil Bronstein, started his career writing for a Jewish newspaper and was not happy about it. Using the excuse of "falsifying a time card" by calling in sick the day of the protest is comical. Having worked in a newsroom, everyone takes sick time when they aren't sick. Plus, he's not a hard news/beat writer, so it's not like he needed to be there to run out and cover a fire or something.

I don't know what else to say. I'm through reading the Examiner - ever - whether I'm in the Bay Area or online. I'm writing a letter to management to let them know that this is McCarthy-era blacklisting, and that it is unacceptable. If you feel the same way, do the same thing:

readerrep@sfchronicle.com (to e-mail the "Reader Representative" Dick Rogers (basically, the Ombudsman)

or

letters@sfchronicle.com (for Letters to the Editor, but since newspapers never cover themselves as news, that probably won't help)

What is ethics, anyway? [29 Apr 2003|12:10am]

[ music | Ludacris, Ho... ]

Is anything truly ethical? And if it is, how do we know? Who gets to decide? Is ethical relativism actually a valid theory? Why is it a valid theory?

Any thoughts?

Side note, the FUNNIEST THING happened TODAY! We have a skanky 15 year old in the neighborhood that tramps it up left and right to all the local ten year olds. So today (in the cloudy, windy weather) she's wearing a tank top all tied up. So I open my window, and blast Ludacris as loud as I can and fall down laughing and crying as she gets this look of "WHAT" on her face. The neighbors are all starin at the house and the kids, wondering why there is a booming voice of swearwords thundering throughout the streets.

Pure comedy.

So I'm pretty happy to see that someone is finally taking the initative to create a community for adults. It's pretty sad when you have a website which not only explicitly states "18 and older only" but you can't seem to get away from the little twelve year olds!

This is my first post, glad to have a community for adults, blah blah blah. It's weird, I love caffeine (I have withdrawls in the morning without it) but I cannot stand the taste of coffee of any kind. In my age bracket and demographic, that makes me about as useful as a football bat, but that's just the way it is. Maybe if I just forced myself to drink nothing but coffee...I would still really hate coffee.

SO what do you people think of the new J.Lo video? I'm not suggesting that you'd deliberately watch it, and no offense to those that do, but the flesh jiggling all over the place caught my attention. I think it's gross and yes, her ass is huge, not perfect, HUGE!
