5:08a - Update on Papers and a Quote
I made good progress tonight on Social Construct Under Construction: Varieties of Multiracial Experience. I completed the introduction and conclusion and finalized the paper's structure. These by far are the three most difficult tasks in writing the paper. All I have to do now is write for a few pages about race as a social construction (there are plenty of nice academic sources here), write about genealogical theory and the illusion of homogeneity – my friends, anyone else who has talked to me more than a couple of times, and quite a few people who have only met me once, actually, can testify that I have hours of (academically sound) ranting on this issue, so that part will be no problem – and continue the easy retelling of stories of personal multiracial identity from Multi and Biracial People of all colors and from Jill Olumide's book. I can easily do that on Sunday and Monday, even if I don't get much writing done in the next two busy days. That paper is due Tuesday, while my independent study paper is due a week after that.

As far as I can tell right now, I am working at Barnes and Noble the next two evenings from 4:00 to midnight and going to a cuatro de mayo – yes, that's right, cuatro de mayo; the host has a tradition – on Saturday night. If I can switch hours with someone at Barnes and Noble at short notice I can also go to my independent study professor's end-of-year party, which was fun last year.

A nice quote I found in the process of my research:

"One of the problems in interpreting the statements of geneticists even today is that 95% of everything a geneticist says is code for "Give me more money." Therefore, when a geneticist says that everything important in life is genetic, you have to realize that they have a conflict of interest. Why? They're geneticists. Of course they want you to believe that everything important in life is genetic, in the same way an Oldsmobile salesman tells you that an Oldsmobile is the best car on the road."
