Make backups. Make backups all the time. Make backups everyday. Backup your user data, your documents, your music, your pictures. Do it.
"But I don't have a CD burner!" you whine. Well, quit living in the early 90s and get one. "But it takes too long, and uses a whole bunch of CD-Rs!" Trust me, it's worth it.
Alas, my last complete backup was during winter break, although I had backed up my documents and smaller such files like a day before the great computer meltdown. Restoring from those CDs now.
UGHHHHH.
