mood: tired music: The Thing Called Love soundtrack. Hey, I'm in Texas. Hush.
|
Hmm. Taking a break from the job search to write the second half of the roadtrip details. Where did I leave off? I think right around Roswell? Roswell ruled. Clayton and I totally wanted to stay there forever. It's so cute, with the little ufos crashing into the building fronts and the alien stuff everywhere. Even the streetlights are aliens. How can you not love that?
Anyway, the next day we went to Carlsbad, and accidentally left Mulder and Scully in the motel. Or, as we prefer to tell it, they had to stay behind to investigate some aliens.
The caves were pretty much closing by the time we would have gotten there, so we drove into Texas and the others did some hiking while I pondered the heaviness of steel toed boots. Then we drove back to Carlsbad to stay for the night. Turns out, Carlsbad has a drive-in movie theater, which we took full advantage of. Especially since it was playing Boogeyman, which I had been putting off seeing since it came out, and the price was totally right on. Seriously, the popcorn was like 2 bucks for a large. Niiice. So we sat in the back of the car, tuned to the appropriate station, and watched what was my very first ever drive-in movie. It was so awesome. I think it was probably my favorite part of the whole trip.
Horror movie, beautiful night, and a couple of good friends out under the stars. It doesn't get much better than that.
Then we went to Chili's for 'ritas, because what is a roadtrip without 'ritas? And we explained what 'ritas were to Kerry. No, it's not a restaurant named "Rita's". :P
The next day we hit the caves. I do not recommend a two hour hike through a cave wearing heavy boots. Seriously. Ouch. But it was beautiful and creepy and totally made me want to find all of my old Geology books. Don't tell my sister.
Then we drove through El Paso just for the hell of it. We stopped at some roadside indian stores and such, and got attacked by like two hundred tumbleweeds at one point in the road. And some hail. And then we stopped for Mexican food in a very sketchy restaurant in El Paso where they didn't exactly speak english.
This was a bad idea.
We managed to drive all the way to Tucson to stop for the night, buying some food and beer and getting a motel room.
Well, Darth may have also had some bad milk, because this is when the vomitting started. The closest we can figure, he must have had food poisoning. He was up all night sick, and then looked kind of crappy all the way back to LA (where we managed to get stuck in traffic for like an hour--completely stopped--because there were some planes flying overhead with something written on them in spanish. That everyone who was DRIVING had to read.
I was already irritated because the good restaurants had been closed. I totally forgot it was Easter. But then we got stuck in retarded traffic and only had Jack FM for the radio. Sigh.
We did manage to get bacl by like 6, which was pretty freaking awesome.
Turns out Kerry had to take Darth to the hospital the next day because he was so dehydrated. And then she had to go like two days later because she got it too. So, maybe not food poisoning. Who knows.
All in all, a very excellent way to wrap up my LA times. Fun roadtrip and awesome friends. And Christine even helped me move furniture. I'm feeling very good about my LA peeps right now.
And jealous that Christine saw U2 the other day. Punk.
And then I hit the road and did a 15 hour day of driving, managing to get here that Friday at midnight. Awesome. My cat slept or looked out the window the whole way. It was a miracle.
Alas, back to the job search. Blah. I'm already bored. |

I'm gonna die. I'm so freaking tired and I only have two and a half days. Well, two really, because there's no way I'm getting off my ass today. And I have no more cable. Or regular tv. Which means I'm totally gonna miss the West Wing this week. Sigh. Thank goodness my sister has showtime or I would be really pissed off right now.
I have a headache. Ug. |

mood: tired music: X-Files while I pack..I want to move to Roswell!!!!
|
So I’m back in LA for a few days before heading off for Texas. I just got back from a four day roadtrip, in which I actually was in Texas for about half a day. I’m exhausted but excited about the move.
But more about the trip...
Kerry, Darth, Clayton and I piled into my rental SUV, which, by the way, is brilliant because I paid for a compact, but they were all out, and hence free upgrade to much larger car, in which I can actually carry most of the stuff I want to take...woohoo! Anyway, we headed off around midnight on Wednesday night after a stop by In N Out. We had Kerry’s Area 51 badge hanging from the rearview and Mulder and Scully hanging out on the dash. There was a brief moment of panic when I couldn’t get the transmitter for my Ipod to work, but luckily, that was quickly solved. We had tunes, food, a full tank of gas, and four days of vacation.
I drove from midnight until like 4 am, and then others took over. We drove through the night, stopping past Tucson at a McDonald’s for breakfast. The first actual tourist place we stopped was Tombstone, Arizona, where the whole main street is like an old west town still, complete with wooden boards announcing “Bank of America” and cowboys and horses on every corner. It was fun looking through the clothes and souveneirs.
We got back on the road and stopped again in White Sands, New Mexico. We played in the sand and got some fun pictures. I think Darth may have actually injured himself by rolling down a hill repeatedly. Dumbass. Heh.
We drove into Roswell that night and stopped at a motel with a sleeping alien on the sign and a spaceship out front. Roswell totally rules. The streetlights on main street are alien heads. Seriously. They’re shaped like alien heads, complete with eyes painted on, and the lights are green. The UFO Museum is super fun, with props from Roswell the movie and personal accounts of UFO experiences and pictures of UFOs. It’s so cool. The gift shop rules. |

So I find it odd and so very LA that In N Out offers a large variety of foods, but only puts three things on their menu. The trick is, knowing someone who grew up here so that you know all the code words. My old boss, Mike, knew them all, luckily, so I was introduced to them before I even went for the first time.
And they must put crack in their burgers, because I am so addicted, that I don't know if I can survive without them.
Mmmm...animal style double double |

So I was gonna go over to Kerry's tonight, but it turns out Mike is there, so, um, no. That's about as much fun as I can have without actually having any. So instead, I'm sticking to the bed and the tv. Which is much more fun. And tomorrow is my last day of work at hellies. Woohoo!
I went and saw The Ring 2 this weekend. Craptastic. It was really bad. Sigh.
BUT I also found out, as Christine and I were visiting Giant Robot looking for a present for Kerry, that there is a JU ON 2!!!!!!!! Which RULES. And I totally have to get it when I have money. Yay.
Christine and I were at Cafe 50s before that, and they were filming some random Mtv reality dating show there, which was incredibly irritating. I will so not ever miss the random filming. Such a hassle. PAs running around, and they wouldn't shut the damn door, so it was cold cold cold.
Blah. But one more day of work until freedom. Thank god. |

So there's this coffeeshop that I pass every day on the way to and from work at like, um, Wilshire and La Brea or something like that. Anyway, somewhere on Wilshire between here and work. It always has this bigass sign on it that says "available for filming" and I always wondered what the hell filmed there. Indie movies? Sitcoms? Anyway, tonight I'm watching American Dreams, and the very last scene is in, oh hey, that coffeeshop. Which I didn't realize was that coffeeshop until Meg and Roxanne walked outside and they showed the front.
So yeah, I'm gonna miss that.
Today's obligatory "this way to the filming" sign was for something called "Bones". Ew. |

I don't think I'm gonna make it! Luckily, I get paid tomorrow, so I could just leave if I wanted. Unfortunately, I'm totally broke, so I need the extra cash. Ug. But it is so freaking hard to pay attention or even care anymore, since I'm not even gonna be there in a week.
That rules, by the way.
And on a note related to my last few posts, everyone send their good thoughts out to Wil Wheaton and his family and hope that his cute little cat gets better! I finally managed to bribe someone into taking my cat in when I get to Austin, and that was just temporary. I can't imagine her getting sick! When my dog got sick, it was the worst.
Meow.
Get better kitty. |

Oh. My. God.
So today I got my picture taken with Wil Wheaton. I was wearing his WWdN shirt (from his website) and when I sat down, he said "Hey!" like he remembered me from yesterday, and then he said "I like your shirt!" all excited like, to which I replied "thanks!". Okay, yeah, so then we keep randomly seeing him when he's leaving and entering the building, like we're having the weirdest timing ever. So we're waiting around for the photos to be ready, and Debra and I are sitting outside on the steps, pretty much the only people out there. I'm on the phone with Julia telling her about how we're having the weirdest timing ever, and then, lo and behold, out walks Wil Wheaton. I mutter into the phone "Oh god, there he is again" and then he looks over at me, points at me, and drags his friend over to where I'm sitting and says in a very excited voice, "I want to impress my friend! Look! She's wearing my shirt! Look at the shirt!", to which I laugh and say "yeah" and show his friend my shirt. And then he's all "cool!" and waves and says bye to me.
Oh. My. God.
Heeheeheeheeheeheeheehee!!!!!!!
Heehee!
Okay, and then when he was gone, I freaked out. |

I've been singing that all day. It's to a jaunty little tune, usually accompanied by jumping up and down. Because I MET WIL WHEATON!
Heehehehehehehe
Sorry. I managed to not totally geek all over him. I told him he was great on CSI. And then I babbled about him on CSI while he autographed his book for me. And then Debra took a picture of him. And then she paid, which seemed to amuse him greatly.
And I'm gonna meet him again tomorrow. So yeah, I'll do this all over again.
He's SO CUTE! Debra even said "he's cute in person!"
YAY!

Quit my job, met Homer Simpson, saw "crazy homeless" a la Wil Wheaton, all in one day. Beautiful.
I went to this thing called "Totally Looped" tonight, where comedians do their own improved dialogue to random movie flicks. Brilliant. Tons of random comedians everywhere. And some guy from "The Shield" at the place we went for dinner.
When I got home, I watched CSI. Wil played this really angry homeless dude with fun hair. He was great. He did this sort of deep "stop messing with me" voice. It was like insane bordering on humorous. And amazingly believeable for a homeless person. That kind of makes me worry.
Oh yeah, and I put in my, er, week and two day notice at my stupidass job today. FREEDOM!
Welcome to Brokesville, population me.

The grafitti on the sidewalk at the corner of 6th and Normandie says "AWARE". That is somehow ominous.
The one time I remembered to send in my absentee ballot, the voting venue (the "Votin' Church") was literally ON THE WAY to the bus. Sons of bitches.
As I was walking home from the busstop, it suddenly smelled like coconut, and for a full block I felt as if I was on vacation. Then it smelled like Korean food. And the illusion was lost.
Four different sets of cops, at four different times, were standing on the sidewalk questioning people.
Yeah. Somehow I don't think I'll miss LA. Except for my peeps. Sigh. |

I would like to take this opportunity to say to all my Austin peeps, of which there are like...2...that read this, that if you happen to know when the Old 97's, Jude, or Franz Ferdinand are going to be in the Austin area, please let me know. And go with me. I'll have a car! I can drive!
Since those are my 3 favorite small venue acts.
If I had money and weren't moving, I would hit the Wiltern this and next month, which has playing, among others: Elvis Costello, The Killers, Margaret Cho...hmm..Ani played there on Valentine's and Lewis Black some time around then.
I'll miss the Wiltern. Of my three things that I'll miss about this godforsaken apocalyptic town. |
