10:37p - crushing all limitations
ok so audition camp...
the weekend wasnt really as bad as it could have been, but probably wasnt as fun as i had hoped. i did however learn some new things. i talked to a few people, but didnt really make any "friends" or anything. the staff was all very likeable, although i didnt particularly agree with some of the ways they instructed. we all slept on either the gym floor on in a few classrooms. and we had to shower in the locker rooms. communal (sp?) showers. gay. anyway, what we really did during the week was basically just a lot of ensemble rehearsal in sectionals (brass, percussion, guard) learning 3 drum-corp-esque songs. while we were playing (which totaled out to be about 16 hours during the weekend), we had to have our horns up at all times. i bet a lot of you have no idea how heavy a marching baritone is. lets just say my arms are fucking jello right now. that sucked, but playing so much definately improved my ability, along with strengthening my arms. there was also a 2 hour marching session. i learned a valuable new relaxed-to-attention method called the "hindu effect" or something that is really quite awesome. we were separated into groups of about 8 or so and marched block 8s right and left. we werent really evaluated on marching (which sucked because i was better than 80% of the people there), but the people that really didnt know how to march at all were marked. auditions were done periodically during each day. i got nervous during mine and sort of fucked up. not too bad though. like i said, i didnt get cut nor did i make it in. they gave me a "2" which means come back to the next audition camp and so them what i'm really made of. now i have to work my ass off. i guess i'm going for the phantom regiment this weekend in wisconsin, even though it is like a 10 hour drive. fuck. perseverance to overcome adversity.
