Life Of PI [27 Oct 2003|05:22pm]
I've got my holiday off to a stunning start, by crouching over the toilet retching my arsehole out through my mouth. Yes, migraine time again, powered on by Guiness last night.

And i thought i was immune to Guiness. Never mind..i did get through ten chapters of this:

It's "Life of Pi" by Yaan Martel, and Ian lent me it, saying it was my type of book. Also said it was beautifully written.

He's right, in those first ten chapters i have been amazed by the vivid use of the written word to describe a young man's life. His experiences growing up in a zoo, his schooling, and the tiny little asids given so much life by the writer.

There are also many and varied messages here; religion is ever present, as are views about the keeping of animals, and in one particular part, a whole section is devoted to the image of zoos.

As i say, it is wonderfully descriptive and very surprising. And i haven't even reached the main part of the story yet. If my head had not been reduced to the size of a peanut i would have read more.

Roy went to see Bill Bailey! The bastard! From what i hear the Bailey was as marvellous as ever.

Charts [27 Oct 2003|07:34pm]
I have departed Migraine City and am now steeped in "Down the Bell or not?" Street. I think the chances of actually going down there are increased by the presence of my parents watching a video of "Ever Decreasing Circles"

Here's this week's top ten:

1. (1) Misty - Billie Holliday.

2. (NE) Liberi Fatali - FVIII

3. (4) Home - Depeche Mode

4. (2) Lady with the Spinning Head - U2

5. (NE) Force your way - FFVIII

6. (8) Judgement Day - FFVII

7. (NE) It's No Good - Depeche Mode

8. (6) Electrical Storm - U2

9. (9) Useless - Depeche Mode

10 (NE) Dagger Cuts her Hair - FFIX

Billie heads the list again, then. Rather a depressing denounment is that all these songs are more than a couple of year's old. I find nothing around at the moment that could even break into the top ten. Maybe i'm getting to that "It were'nt like this in my day" bollocks. I hope not.

I am going out. The night calls me, It's wind's sweet breath and inocnsistent street lighting. I will walk and look at the stars, before stepping into the welcome warm door of the Bell. See you later.
