    Time Event
    5:52a
Chinese songs, Chinese sermon, Chinese altar call - All Things Chinese
It was rather hard to catch the Chinese lyrics initially, but as with all Church songs, they go on repeat mode until you can get a good hang of it.

The next part was the preaching. Refreshing as it is to hear gospel teachings in Mandarin, it gets difficult when Pastor Weng uses bombastic vocab (or rather, things not quite in my dictionary) and words that I can place in hanyu pinyin, but not in Chinese characters. The LCD display was really helpful for some of his sermon points, but most others, I struggle.

The altar call was given after the message on King David - how someone who lives according to God's will may not be rid of all shortfalls and sins could repent bravely, and still enjoy His grace- was preached. Despite the half-filled auditorium, many responded to the altar call to accept Jesus into their lives as Savior and God. It is common sight in the youthful, English services to see people accepting Jesus, but these middle-aged, or sometimes elderly people lifting their hands, bowing their heads and humbly repenting of their sins and accepting Jesus really touched me.

Christianity is really not about the English-speaking, the trendy and whatsoever. Christianity is about a man called Jesus, who came to Earth 2004 years ago, was crucified, and resurrected by the power of God. Christianity is about believing that the blood of this Man can cleanse us of our sins and wrongdoings, our shame and guilt, our iniquities and fears. Christianity is the first step to walking towards the eternity that our Creator has built us with.

It is hard to flip to the correct page in the Chinese bible. It is hard to think about which is the Chinese character spoken by the preacher. But hey, this is the challenging life I've chosen. Because I believe - Christianity is for the Chinese-speaking as well. :-)

    Current Mood: hopeful
