Goodbye, Butch If you're like me---and really, and understand I'm not criticizing you here if you're not, because that's not what I'm all about---who else would you bother being like?---you've been spending all weekend trying to figure out what your one, single all time favorite Paul Newman (
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25372062/) moment is and you finally came to the inevitable conclusion:
Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid- The Jump
One of the best scenes from the movie. Please subscribe! And just remember Paul Newman's laugh after, "I cant swim!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIZzubsOaWEAnd that wasn't an easy thing to do...which probably explains why it took all weekend...because there were a lot of great scenes from a lot of great movies to pick from but Butch and Sundance came out on top. Somehow it beat out The Silver Chalice. And I still can't figure out why everyone puts that one down. Paul, himself, called it, "the worst motion picture produced during the 1950s."
Most people say that Plan Nine From Outer Space is the worst one from the 50's as well as being the worst film ever made in any decade. And I don't get that, either. How can a movie about God or aliens resurrecting dead people and creating an army of zombies be bad?
I just don't understand it. That's why I need to get around to being a film critic. I'm so tired of seeing great films getting dissed for no reason at all. Did you notice that Busty Models wasn't even nominated for Best Picture last year? It makes your blood boil, doesn't it?
Mine, too. And it's even worse now that we've lost another great actor. We might get another Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid or The Sting or Cool Hand Luke and maybe, if we're really lucky, another The Silver Chalice but our chances are greatly diminished now.
The good thing is that now that Paul no longer suffering from lung cancer, he will probably go back to acting. The downside is that that won't do us any good till we die. Unless you're really old like me because we don't have to wait all that long. I feel sorry for the rest of you, though.
