Iowa Is Odd But The U.S.A. As A Whole Is Odder If you weren't already convinced that the strangest, oddest things in the Universe come out of Iowa, this should convince you:
Iowa judge rules nude dancing is an art
State law allows nudity in theaters, museums, venues devoted to arts

DES MOINES, Iowa - Nude dancing remains an art in Iowa.
A judge Friday ruled in favor of a nude dancing club owner charged with violating Iowa's indecent exposure law.
Fremont County Judge Timothy O'Grady said prosecutors failed to prove the club wasn't a theater. Iowa law allows nudity at theaters, museums and other venues devoted to the arts or theatrical performances.
The county's attorney, Margaret Johnson, charged club owner Clarence Judy after a 17-year-old girl climbed on stage at Shotgun Geniez in the tiny town of Hamburg and stripped off her clothing.
"I think it's a little scary," said Johnson, who emphasized that the girl was still a minor.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25972909/Not that a ruling like that is all that strange but would you have guessed it would have happened in Iowa? That's what makes it strange. Just like the ruling about homosexual marriage that came out of Iowa earlier this year. Iowa is backwards and forwards at the same time.
But that's not even the strangest aspect of this story. That would be the large amount of concern about the 17 year old girl who took off her clothes at the strip club. People are very upset about that and I don't know if it's good or bad but I find it unsettling to live in a country where the Supreme Court had to stop the states from executing minors and people feel they have to protect them from things like nudity and sex.
If you're a kid, you can be tried as an adult but you can't give a lap dance. Does that make sense? We talk a lot about protecting kids from all kinds of things but when you crunch all the numbers and look at the facts, you see that we really don't protect them from much of anything.
If we really cared at all, we wouldn't get so upset about things like kids emailing naked pictures to each other and hanging out in strip clubs but it would be impossible to send anyone under 21 into combat and all school crossings would have elevated walkways and a lot of serious things like hunger and homelessness and abuse would be as eliminated as we could eliminate them.
But that would be a lot of work, wouldn't it? So let's just keep getting upset about nudity and that'll be good enough.
