Today's Random Coast Notes This is a big one. Way too big for for a single blog post. This is the sort of Coast show that I could write several books about but I'm not going to do that. Instead, I'm going to settle for just a short list of random questions and observations. And if you read read them, remember that they are also incomplete because they are lacking the many chapters that I would attach to them if I were doing a complete job of this. Also, I listened to a bit of this this morning and am listening to it again now, so it's not even going to be in order. With all that in mind, here is my short random list of questions and observations about Ian's interview with Jesus:
*The first thing that strikes me is that everyone so far that I've told about this that believes in God...their invisible friend who lives in the sky and grants wishes...also believes that it is ridiculous to believe that Jesus would appear on Coast. I find that strange and disturbing and it's also one of the big reasons I have a problem with religion.
*My personal feelings haven't changed. I'm still sure that there is no God. There may have been a Jesus who formed a cult and built his own religion around it and He may have even had some pretty cool magical powers but I don't think He was a divine being. That having been said, whether He was real or not, He got it right. His followers not so much.
*My conclusion about the show is that this is Ian's version of John Williams' Thomas Jefferson...a talented actor played the part of Jesus and he did a pretty good job. Not as good as the guy who plays President Jefferson but he wasn't bad. And my conclusion was proven right when I went to The Jesus Christ Show web site FAQ. It might have been more fun if there wasn't a web site that explains everything...or does it? If you were Jesus and wanted to do this but didn't want to be overt about it, would you do something like this? I might.
*Someone asked me today if I thought that Ian was committing blasphemy and my answer is no. If there is a God, I think He has a sense of humor and would like this sort of thing. And, if there is a God and He created me in His own image, you can be sure He is doing plenty of His own jokes. Everywhere. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if JC is THE JC, if Jesus Christ is in fact real and divine.
*It was an entertaining and educational interview and I hope Ian does it again. This guy who plays Jesus has potential. He has a lot of room for improvement but he wasn't bad.
With all that having been said, I want to hear what everyone thinks about this but mostly I want to hear from Jesus. What did You think of the show and anything else you want to talk about. I know I said You don't exist but I'm open to changing my mind. So, if You exist, leave me a comment. And prove that You are You---sorry to have to demand that but there's a lot of crazy people out there who claim to be You, and if they are really You, fine, but I have to see some ID. I don't know what that proof would be but I'll know it when I see it. I also really want to know, would it have killed Ian to play My Sweet Lord this morning?
