Another Unsolvable Dilemma Solved! Tomorrow is June 6 and you know what that means: The usual dilemma over whether to go to France to celebrate the anniversary of D Day or stay here and celebrate the anniversary of Convoy. And I know that many of you in equal measure blame Ike and CW for this horrendous scheduling blunder because it's easy and convenient to do that.
But if you stop for a minute and think about it logically, neither of them is to blame. And those of you who blame Robert William Service...well, you're just stretching way beyond a healthy limit. The blame here lies with fate. And so does the solution.
It took me almost 25 years to figure this out and I hope you did it faster than I did but if you didn't, relax, because I'm about to give you the answer. And if this hasn't come to you yet, you are going to kick yourself when you hear it.
And it's no more complex than a simple question with an even more simple answer: What do D Day and Convoy have in common? And the answer is: OMAHA!
That's right, you don't have to go to Colleville-sur-Mer tomorrow. You can stay right here and kill two birds with one stone without slighting either historic event. And I can hear you saying, "OK, that's all well and good for everyone in Omaha but I'm in Tulsa, which is mentioned in Convoy but there was no Tulsa Beach at D Day and I have to work in the morning and even if gas wasn't almost $5 a gallon, Omaha just may as well be in France for all the good it's going to do me because I'm still going to be properly celebrating only 50% of this historic day at best, so just what the Hell are we supposed to do now, you moron?"
And the answer is: Those are all very good points but you are wrong, Peterbilt Breath, because you are forgetting one crucial fact. And that fact is that everything between Philadelphia and Denver is Omaha, not officially but in every other conceivable way.
So you can do what I'm doing. Stay right here in Rock Island....or Cleveland or Madison or Texarkana or wherever...and honor both of these historic events just the way they should be honored. All you have to do now is have Suzette make all your favorite foods...or whatever you can beg her to make that might come close to your favorites and...even more importantly...have Fifi make plenty of drinks.
So there, thanks yet again to me, your weekend is going to be perfect. And to make it even more perfect, I'm even going to give you the two events that we're honoring this weekend:
