I'm missing... [04 Jul 2004|12:11am]
[ mood | nostalgic ]

...Saturday night dinner dos with Yash, Roy-ness and Shorty with much banter, discussion and debate. Aimless driving along Marine Drive and Breach Candy. A brief stop at the Worli seaface to ogle at the 500+ cc bikers club in action. Leisurely drive back home...

Sigh...

It's the time to disco... [04 Jul 2004|11:07pm]
[ mood | cheerful ]

As a child, growing up, my first exposure to western music was the electronic beat of 80s disco numbers blaring out of my neighbour's stereo... I must've been 5 or 6 at the time... And my neighbour was a young man of 18 or 19...

As the years went by I found my own music... I started listening to the pop as played by Phil Collins or Sting... And then it was the pop-rock of Bryan Adams and the Eagles... Today it seems to be the classic rock bands of the 60s and 70s... Creedence Clearwater Revival and Santana, to name a couple... And, of course, Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull and Cream...

But even today the only music that gets me really moving on the dance floor is disco... Michael Jackson, ABBA, BeeGees, Queen, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, WHAM!... Maybe I'm stuck in a time warp... Maybe I'm turning into an old fogey... I don't know...

What's ironic. though, is that twenty years since the time I discovered disco it's now my sister's turn... She's 14 and she's grown up on a staple diet of popular Bollywood songs and IndiPop remixes... She couldn't stand western music, especially as represented by my extensive mp3 collection... Until, that is, the day she heard me playing ABBA at full blast at 11 in the night, one saturday a few weeks back... Now she's hooked...! Everytime I turn on Winamp on my machine I find that my sister's been listening to Mama Mia or Another One Bites The Dust or You Could Be Dancing...
Inexorably, life does come full circle...

Twenty years since I first heard Michael Jackson croon Beat It, disco's made a reappearance at my home...
