It's hard to think of him as a subtle, serious individual. But then, that's because it's easy to forget that Charlie Chaplin the raggedy, likeable buffoon of so many magical movies is very different from Sir Charles the cerebral, innovative film maker or Mr. Chaplin the complex personality...!
