today marks the first day of my MBBS exams
5 yrs of hard work finally boils down to this
and there's so much to read, stuff dat i read goes in 1 way, and comes out the other
just hope i've done enuff to get by this hurdle and be a full-fedged doctor, which in my opinion, is where the real learning will start

it's almost 4 am now, and the 'syllabus' is so wide
i can flip to any page of the book, and it'll seem impt
there's so much information to integrate and synthesis, and not to mention regurgitate
i'm not one dats good with memory work, think mugging is quite pointless
esp stupid classifications and staging etc
can just refer to a book or a table or something
but oh well, for the sake of the exams, i'm compelled to do something

ok, grab a bite and back to work
will try to catch an hour or so later

    all the best to myself!

    Time check
    1152pm on sunday 25th feb 2007

    Fact 1:
it's now half time during the carling league cup final between arsenal and chelsea
and amazingly, the score is 1-1
considering dat arsenal fielded it's vitually reserve team, and chelsea it's full squad
think arsenal is relli going to be quite exciting i the oming years
most of the team is like below 20
and walcott scored a relli good goal
    rooting for arsenal now
haha, wanna see a bunch of kids beat chelsea's 200m dollar squad

    Fact 2:
i have 3 days to finish up paeds, med, obgyn, ortho
dats a lot of work, means i have to keep away from distractions
one of them being my computer
which i've watched 22 episodes of House MD in the past week
not to mention the narutos, and many games of minesweeper flags and reversi i've been playing with chin

    Fact 3:
    i'm addicted to a pill
tried to stop taking it, but i experience tremors, nausea and am unable to concentrate
need to stock up tml, running out soon

    Fact 4:
"gay" is my favourite word now
    overtaking "burn"
it's good becuz it only has 3 letters, making it more efficient to type
not to mention it can be used for good and bad things, unlike burn where it tends to be only applicable for bad stuff

and guess wat, my old nemesis came back to haunt me
    psoriatic arthritis

gay man, can u imagine ppl so desperately wanting to test me such a... not dat crucial topic
    and the amazing part was
the lady who has psoriasis, had it in places which were not obvious to me
    totally gay

anyway, feel like a holiday now
haha, looking forward to the break ahead

now working on ECG for PROS

    got quite a panicky feeling
and the worse thing is, i can actually do something now to salvage myself
which means i'll have to force myself to study
    yucks, every min now counts
been seeing more patients in the past couple of weeks den i did in my whole med school
fisherman who has nv been out to sea

currently reading up on abdominal examination
quite good set of nites from jianye
kudos to him for summarising talley o conner

it's now only 20 days to the first paper, and i'm not much the wiser
it's hard to believe there's anyone less prepared den me

the build up to this "most impt moment of our lives" has been rather saddening
guess everyone is stressed, and rightfully so
afterall, it'll very much determine our future lying ahead for us
maybe for those of us who deperately want to do paeds in NUH, or those aspiring to be an opthalmologist
it's imperative to ace it i guess
tempers flare, ugly sides are revealed
wonder how working life in the future will be like

but now, i've only read respiratory medicine
    now is back to cardiology
    Monday, January 22nd, 2007
    2:43 am
    woot
man utd lost to arsenal 2 -1
2 late goals from arsenal won the game
oh well, things like dat happen in soccer, which makes it all the more interesting
no big loss for man utd, perhaps another missed oppurtunity to pull away from chelsea
but 6 points is still a healthy lead

    just started reading medicine
    read heart failure
think i'll not touch kumar for the moment, unless there is something i dying to get answered
it's a bit... erm... heavy going
so baliga is going to be the main text for me
    not to mention online sources
den dun have to carry big heavy textbook everywhere i go

running is relli quite shiok, can feel a bit more adrenaline
though my stamina now sucks, but surely can improve la
    prepare for the grad trip

in the midst of preparing for the grad trip now, which further motivates me to study harder since in order to go for a grad trip, i first, need to grad
    planning on the destination now
appears nepal is now becoming a hot favourite
i actually considered going to solomon islands and antarctica amongst many other exotic places
but i guess if i were to do that, i'll be the ony one going
which will be a bit boring since i cannot play bridge with myself

    7:51 pm
now waiting for my brother to go jogging
decided to up my energy levels
    far too lethargic
now it's under 40 days already

    no time
just about touched a decent amt of general surgery, though still have some topics that i haven't covered
will start on medicine now, so that my posting in the medicine posting will be more fruitful
will have to work on ortho and paeds soon

    raise energy levels
perhaps the difference between me now, and the past, is the amt of exercise i do
maybe if i actually exercise everyday, instead of feeling tired, i'll be more energetic
    Saturday, January 13th, 2007
    9:58 pm
watching liverpool trash watford now, 3-0 so far
    been quite a bore game
just waiting for the next game, which will be more interesting
think all arsenal, chelsea and man utd are playing at the same time

just met up with wenrong for dinner
had a decent chat, and also catching the first half of the game
he's a genius man, top of the class in cornell
when's the last time i was top of the class?
    maybe in primary school
haha, think i'm just the average boy trying to be more useful

hear that it's flooding in kota tinggi
wonder if the waterfall and stream has been converted to a storm drain
    miss the chendol there
nice little roadside stall with an indian man selling bowls of homemade chendol
it has like peanuts and sweetened rice in it
all for a dollar a bowl
of course i'll only recommend it if u have strong stomach

    miss my travelling
    miss my beers
    miss watching movies
miss just sleeping without having to worry

ever felt so stressed you can't fall alseep?
or felt this heavy burden on your chest so much you can't breath?
well, that's exatly what i'm feeling now
which explains why i'm up at 4am in the morning typing this entry

was just thinking of my next course of action
and it seems dat the "making-my-own-notes" strategy is not relli going to work
since i have so little time prior to my exam
will probably not do it for the rest fo the tracts

    paeds --> rely on notes
O&G --> read the textbook, seems ok enuff
surgery --> finish up the major topics
med --> hmm, not too sure, i guess will have to pick and read
ortho --> this one sucks, i dun even have a decent text to read abt this

think i'm suffering from a panic attack
    tachycardia with some delusions

    it's raining outside now
    Wednesday, January 10th, 2007
    6:44 pm
the normal state of calm has now transform into a frantic state of panic
the amout of time spent on sleeping has increased
the time spent on dota has decreased
even TV has taken a downturn
this only means i'm starting to be stressed
which is just as well since i have under 50 days to make myself a decent doctor

it's almost like the lifeforce is drained out of you
and your thoughts are filled with the daunting task of the facing the final exams
    the cases you'll get
the horrendous examiner who'll grill you
it almost causes depression, insomnia as well as anxiety

just drew out this amazing looking schedue i planned for myself for the coming month
it appears i would be able to finish mugging everything in a month (LOL)
den why did i bother to take 5 years to do med school?
    haha... crazy

thyroid is taking a long time
reading thru guyton again, it's relli a pain
wonder how i managed to survive all that in the past

    12:01 am
been an extremely wet day today
rained on and off the entire day
good day to sleep, but i didn't catch much today

just caught the game between everton and chelsea
    feel horribly aggrieved for everton
think they should have gotten something out of it
but once again, chelsea wins with some once-in-a-lifetime goals

now watching man utd vs west ham
two of the teams i support.. haha, but of course i hope man utd wins

    spent the day studying parathyroid
not the most impt of topics, but i guess i knew little about it, so i thought i'll spend a bit of time anwsering my curiosity
    running out of time
guess i'm really starting to panic when i actually start studying, cuz i realise how much i have to go
seems like quite an impossible task

just set up a new dvd recorder as well as an oven in my house
    more toys to play with
    ha

interesting little article i plucked out of my friend's blog
guess i'm bored reading on breasts, so had to find something to entertain myself for the long night ahead

    ------------------------------------------------

According to men, they want a counterpart they respect, a cohort who shares their interests and a confidant they can talk to. They want women to be happy with who they are and comfortable getting what they want. So listen up, ladies. Men just may be a little simpler (and more complex) than you thought.

    Men want a girl who:

    Knows what she wants

Confidence is still the name of the game. Many men listed trying to hard to please others (including them) as a turn-off. Instead, women who know what they want (and aren't afraid to ask for it) were described as attractive, sexy and desirable.

    Makes me laugh

A sense of humor is as important to men as it is to women. After all, a relationship without its fair share of laughter gets old pretty quickly, if it gets started at all. Lighthearted, witty or utterly ridiculous doesn't seem to matter, as long as you get each other's jokes and aren't afraid to throw dignity to the wind and get silly sometimes.

    Takes care of herself

Yes, looks made the list. But no one cited "beauty" or "great legs" among his criteria. Instead, it seems that looking "put together" is essential. Men admitted that they want a woman to "put time into her appearance" and be generally neat and organized while avoiding the "high maintenance" category.

    Shares my interests

If you can't agree on what to do together, it gets complicated to be together. It is important to guys that their girls have common interests (or be open to them). Whether they're into rock climbing or old movies, they'd much rather have you along. And even if it's not your thing, simply being curious and open-minded about their work and hobbies can be enough to satisfy their need to be understood.

    Surprises me

It's actually not much of a surprise; spontaneity ranked high as a very desirable trait in a woman, though the quality earned varying definitions. For some it was the inclination to make spur-of-the-moment decisions or having a generally "adventuresome" personality. For others it was enough that a woman thought differently than they did and had the ability to surprise them with her outlook, her suggestions or her actions.

    Impresses me

Many women get the message that men are threatened or turned off by intelligent, powerful women, but according to the source, that's pure fiction. Guys want someone they can respect. They cited intelligence as a highly desirable quality; quite a few admitted that they preferred a woman who is more intelligent than they are. Strong really is beautiful, so put your best self forward.

    Doesn't care what I think

It's not always what they say to our faces, but guys claim to respect a woman who does her own thing, even when it isn't aligned with what he wants. Independence is strong and attractive, and it's a plus when he knows you're autonomous enough to be on your own and have a good time without him.

    Tells it straight

Guys don't want to have to play games or guess what a woman wants, so they're drawn to honesty, sincerity and the ability to communicate clearly. If you're straightforward about how you feel and what you want, he can react to you rather than waste time trying to gauge what's really going on. Men aren't exactly pros when it comes to reading our minds, and they know it. Being upfront about how you feel can make it a little easier on everyone.

    Cares about me

They didn't seem as concerned with being the sun to her earth as they were interested in women who are genuinely compassionate. While a girl who is the center of her own universe might be intriguing in the beginning, it gets old fast, and men want to be treated with kindness and respect as much as women do. They also notice how we act when it's not about them: back-stabbing and cattiness score high as major turn-offs.

    Confuses me

Don't ever feel that you're beholden to one version of yourself or that he'll lose interest if you reveal your "dark" side. Men are strangely drawn to contradictions, and the polarities of your personality are what make you uniquely you. Let yourself be bookish and passionate, conservative but spontaneous, lighthearted and intellectual -- those warring contradictions that can make you crazy can also make you mysterious and continually surprising.

    CHELSEA 1 : ARSENAL 1
just watched a great game in arsenal vs chelsea
pulsating stuff from start to finish, esp the last 15 min of the game was breathtaking
arsenal were lucky to get away with the point, after chelsea it the woodwork 3 times
well, talked to wenrong during halftime abt the game, and i made a couple of predictions dat came true

    1. lehmen will pick a fight with drogba, and dat they will both be carded
    2. the end result will be a draw

haha, of course i was also hoping a couple of chelsea players get sent off
    but it didn't happen
but all is well, now chelsea is 8 points behind man utd with a game in hand
    great result
and they'll be facing newcastle next, so dat will be a tricky draw i feel

time is ticking by, got to pick up and go
    go minky go minky

    10:54 am
woke up in the morning feeling horribly under the weather
    heavy head, sniffy nose
probably a combination of lack of sleep, as well as a flu bug dats going around
and so i decided to skip my first morning round in surg SIP
hopefully the team wun be pissed at me

feeling much better after sleeping in and having a big glass of water
still feeling a bit lethargic, but better
it's already wednesday, and if i'll want to chieve my lofty goals of finishing surg by the end of SIP, i better be bucking up
maybe if i can say devote about 6 hours of sleep a day, and 2 hours of dota a day, i still have a generous serving of 16 hours to catch up with yiyong
ha, yes, i've set her as my target for academics

    see my schedule for today
now will start studying, later abt 1215 heading out for lunch, perhaps able to finish by say 130
den it'll be mugging till prof low's tutorial at 4, after which i'll be heading down to greenridge for campfire til abt... say 9?
den after dat is mug mug mug

it appears dat no one reads this blog anymore
also not the mention the various "HUH???"s when i say my blog is on blurty
    hey, wats wrong with blurty?

spending my night reading up on hematuria and trying to come up with a comprehensive approach to hematuria
sigh, got to let me know only at 10+pm dat i need to present tml
but also partially myfault since i played dota till 12
so i guess i asked for it
reading all sorts of sources now, burkitts, notes, uptodate, and probably bailey later on
wondering if i should just read thru the urology stuff tonight, though it'll mean not sleeping ie night call
then tml will be a big burn

surgery is to be completed in 10 days (which will mark the end of my surg posting)
so i have a mountain to climb
    work work work

    8:55 pm
it's barely 90 days before mbbs
the start of muggin is indeed quite slow
    lots of inertia as usual
glad to have hardworking friends around me to keep reminding me dat the exams are nearing
and their panic is starting to diffuse into my system, though it's still a vague feeling

ate pasta at home today, good stuff
lotsa mushroom and chicken and brocolli, in fact a bit too much
    but nice nonetheless

just confirmed a talk i'm suppose to give next week
gotta start preparing for it, thankfully the video dat i needed can be found
haha, and the organiser offered to get someone to fetch me
wah piang, red carpet entry sia
no need la, i'll just walk around and find my way there, but it's a long way from home
in the heart of boon lay at greenwich sec
hopefully my surg SIP wun clash with it

talking abt SIP, i'm currently at war with the dean's office
    details to be announced later

tonight is peptic ulcer and breast
    since tml is breast tutorial
    jiayou!!!
