[09 Nov 2009|02:10am] |
Time to wrap up my vacation story. I got up Saturday morning on got on the road to Ft. Myers. I was tempted to stop and say goodbye to Mary, but I wasn't sure if everybody would be up that early and didn't want to wake anyone. It is a LONG drive from Milton which is just outside of Pensacola down to Ft. Myers. It's not really longer than my other drives, but it just really feels like it. I don't think it helps to lose an hour with time zone change. My biggest challenge on the drive down is to not get caught in the outside lane South of Ocala because it quickly turns into an off ramp to the Turnpike back to Orlando. My last two trips through there I nearly got caught there and had to make really quick lane changes. Thankfully safe ones. :p Anyway I made it safe and sound to Ft. Myers and got checked into my hotel. It was no longer a Howard Johnson, but a Red Roof. I headed out to Angie's place. Made one wrong turn, but quickly figured it out. I can never remember the right turn to make. :p It was really good to see Angie and her parents again. :) We spent the evening just chatting and catching up since I was last there. They fed me supper which was very nice of them. Grilled steak. Yummy. We chatted late into the evening, but eventually I had to head back for the hotel. I was getting sleepy. :p The next morning I went out to pick up Angie. We were going to bum around. The first place we were going to go was a flea market place. We got a little lost and ended up at the wrong one. We got back on the road and finally found the right place. It was HUGE!!! It even had a map to help you find your way around and a food court area. Angie found a few things. She even bought me my Christmas present, a Disney Monopoly set. She is going to mail to me later because I have no room in my suitcase. I got her Christmas present, a little angel figurine that she collects. From there we stopped at a Cracker Barrel for a late lunch. It was yummy, and they have a fun store at the front of their restaruants. In one area they sell "old fashion" candies. They had Moon Pies which are like a cold version of a Samore. I found out the will ship things and I was tempted to have them mail some home for me, but I finally decided against it. Not being sure about the weather and all. Chocolate and heat is not a good combination. :p Plus there is one Cracker Barrel near the Twin Cities back home. I have since found it. lol... From there is was back to Angie's for a brief stop, and then we headed over to the mall. Angie was in the market for a new camera. We did a lot of window shopping. Stopped in the Disney Store, but they are really getting pathetic. Either sprouse them up or just close them all down and have it over with. The best Disney Store outside of the Parks is the one at the Orlando Airport, and I am guessing that is owned by Disney still. Anyway I picked up some calendars. Angie got some Yankee Candle candles and even gave me one. The Radio Shack at the mall didn't have the camera Angie was looking for, so we headed out to one of their other stores. Of course it wasn't the one they called to see if they had one, but they did have one. They proceeded to give her the hard sell to buy extras. UGH... From there we headed back to Angie's to have supper. Tonight we had chicken. Do they know me or what. Loves me some chicken. lol......... Again we spent the evening just sitting around and chatting. I didn't stay too late though because I need to be up early the next morning to get the rental car back to Orlando. The next morning I was up and checking out with a little trouble. I was under the impression when I book the room that I had paid for it to get the lower price, but he charged me now when I was checking out. I finally said whatever and I would look into when I got home. I got on the road and headed for Orlando. It was an uneventful drive and I got the car back to the rental agency. From there it was back to the airport. The shuttle bus really threw me off for a bit the clock in the bus was an hour fast, and I was like is that right? Where did I lose an hour? :p Got to the airport and checked in. Of course I had to make a stop at the Disney store. lol... I was careful with my shopping there. Mostly because I HAD NO ROOM in my suitcase. :p Got through security with no trouble again. YAY me. :p Then it came time to sit around and wait and wait and wait. As I waited I heard that another NWA flight headed for Atlanta was delayed for a couple of hours because of maintenance problems. Glad that's not me. We finally got boarded on the plane, they backed us up and.. The right engine wouldn't start. So they pushed us back up to the gate and we sat there so maintenance could check things out. It got nice and warm in there and we sat for about 40 minutes before they fixed things and pushed us back out again. We finally go in the sky and the Captain told us he was going to keep the seatbelt sign on for awhile because the weather part way through Georgia was a little rough. No problem... We got up over Georgia and we did hit some turbulence. Still no biggie. Then..... We must have hit an air pocket or whatever and the plane dropped fast enough and far enough that it lifted me right off my seat. Thank goodness I was wearing my seatbelt. :o After that it got better. Then we started to get closer to Minneapolis and the clouds started to thicken up again. I thought, Here we go again. Surprisingly, the landing really was no biggie. I left Florida and it was in the 90's for temps. I landed in Minneapolis and it was raining and in the 40's. I was so ready to turn around and go back to Florida. Hmm... With a third baby on the way already, I wonder if my brother could use a live in nanny? I would only be about 8 hours away from Disney. lol........................ The End........ :(

When I went to leave for work last night I was walking out to my car and was greeted by three deer in our front yard. They have been dining at our bird feeders. Thankfully they went in the opposite direction. Not so sure I would want to go head to head with three deer. :o

| October 1 & 2........ |
[02 Nov 2009|02:29am] |
Yikes, I have kind of neglected finishing up my vacation story.
On October 1st I was up and packed the car and said goodbye to my brother and his family. It was hard to do that because we don't get to see them very often because of the distance. :(
I was on the road and heading for Milton, Fl., home of my friend, Mary and her kids. The drive down was fairly uneventful. I have done it before and I had a AAA Trip Tik to see where the construction was. There is one little town, I don't remember if it's in Alabama or Florida, but it almost messed me up the first time through it, and it almost got me this time too. Too many highway signs for too few roads. Consolidate people. :p As I was getting close to Milton I drove past this one field and I was like, I wonder if that is cotton. That or it was the whitest plant. lol... When I talked to Mary she said it probably was because they do have cotton in the area. I arrived in Milton and checked into my hotel, the Emerald Sands Inn. It was an okay place. Didn't look all that busy, but I was still put up on the second floor. Love to lug my luggage up stairs. From there I was off to Mary's place. It was so great to see her again. :) She only has two of her kids living with her right now. But they keep her busy. He new place is really nice. One floor. Not really big, but still feels roomy. We sat around and just caught up with each other and chatted. We kind of finalized plans for tomorrow. We are going to visit the Gulfarium in Fort Walton, Fl. They have dolphins and seals and other sea life. It was getting late, and so we called it a night. I headed over to Wally's World. Shh, don't tell my union I shopped there. :p I got sub sandwich and something to drink. Then I headed back to the hotel to watch a little tv and relax. I stopped down to the hotel desk and got the password for their internet and cruised around the net for awhile. :p The next morning I got up and headed over to Mary's and we were off to the Gulfarium. It was a bit of a drive and we chatted and occupied the time. (What the heck is wrong with my internet or should I say LJ? It keeps jumping and moving my window here up. ARGH!!!!!) So anyway, we finally found the Gulfarium and went in to watch the shows and just walk around and enjoy the place. It was a lot of fun. With dolphin shows and seal and dolphin shows and also other marine life to see. on the way out we stopped in the gift shop and Mary picked up a few things for the kids. She joked that they couldn't tell she was a local by buying these things. They asked if she lived around there and she showed her ID. She got a 40% discount if I remember right. NICE!!! From there we drove back towards Milton/Pensacola and there was a store that sold shells and what not so we stopped in and looked around. Some nice things and some cheesy things. :p I think some of their postcards were from the 80s. lol... From there we drove on and we stopped at Ruby Tuesday's for lunch. Thank you Mary for letting me stop there. I don't think it's her favorite. :p After lunch we drove up through Pensacola and drove along the road that has all these amazingly big beautiful homes. Well, there were a couple that were like, You have to be kidding. lol... Who was their decorator/designer? We stopped back at the hotel and I showed Mary some of my pictures that I had on line. Then we went back to her place. The kids were waiting for pizza to show up for supper. We had a piece to satisfy our tummies, but lunch hadn't been that long ago and we were both fairly full yet. Oops, I forgot we stopped at this little bakery on the way back and got some really YUMMY things. We sat around and chatted for awhile and then the two kids that lived on their own decided it was time to head home before the crowds got to wild, it was homecoming night in town. I offered to give them a ride home in the Mustang so Mary wouldn't have to go out again. Plus they both like the car. It was okay, but Daniel was just a little tall to be sitting in the back seat. lol...... I got them home and them I headed back to the hotel for the night. I would loved to have gone back to Mary's, but I know she needed to get Suzanne to bed. So I went back to the hotel and watched some tv and played on the computer for awhile. I ate some of my yummy bakery goods too. :p In the morning I am off to my other friend, Angie's place in Ft. Myers. Again, it's hard to say goodbye because I am not able to get down there very often. :(
Well, Blurty seems to behaving itself, so obviously the trouble is with LJ and not the internet. What the BEEP is wrong with LJ lately? It sucks, and I am paying for a journal there. ARGH.........

From a friend over on LJ.......
Dr. Vinay Goyal is an MBBS,DRM,DNB (Intensivist and Thyroid specialist) having clinical experience of over 20 years. He has worked in institutions like Hinduja Hospital , Bombay Hospital , Saifee Hospital , Tata Memorial etc.. Presently, he is heading the Nuclear Medicine Department and Thyroid clinic at Riddhivinayak Cardiac and Critical Centre, Malad, a suburb of M'umbai, India (W).
The following message given by him, I feel makes a lot of sense and is important for all to know:
The only portals of germ entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.
While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):
1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications).
2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap)..
3. *Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.
4. Similar to 3 above, *clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water. *Not everybody may be good at Jala Neti or Sutra Neti (very good Yoga asanas to clean nasal cavities), but *blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.*
5. *Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.
6. *Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can. *Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.
