Ensign Anne Yeo, Security Officer's Duty Log |

"Attention all hands. Security level ten is now lifted. You are once again free to move about the ship. Commander MacLaren out." Anne was approaching her quarters, carrying her snowboard, and still feeling a little stunned by the loudness of the party her holographic friends had thrown for her. It had been very awkward, but she had survived Ted's idea of a good time. She could only be grateful that Starfleet officers didn't normally have that kind of party. She hoped.
A little while later, Anne stepped out of the sonic shower, crossed to where her plain white kimono was hanging and slipped it over her shoulders. She yawned. Whatever else the holodeck session did for her snowboarding and social skills, it had certainly made her tired. Now would be a good time to get some sleep. She was heading for her bed when the door chimed and she changed course.
Edith came in like a pouncing tiger, grasping her around the neck and sobbing openly "You were the only one that would understand, the only one that I could turn to."
Anne steadied herself, guiding Keeler towards the couch as the door hissed shut. Staggering, she found herself sitting down on her couch next to Edith, who didn't seem ready to loosen her grip on her.
"What is it?" she asked in a quiet voice. She felt that anything louder would startle Edith's fragile state of mind.
"The Captain" Edith's voice trembled "He's dead"
"Dead?" Anne echoed
"Yes" came the confirmation
"They found him on the planet, the body is being retrieved now"
"What happened?"
"I don't know" Keeler sniffed "I just know that he's dead" Anne bowed her head in silent acknowledgment of the news.
"And Starling, and Decker." continued Edith
"They - well, we don't know that they are dead" said Anne gently - to which Edith began to sob openly again.
~~A little while later~~
Anne lay on her bed with the large pillow propping her up. Edith's sobs had dropped to a whimper and then had subsided. In the quiet of her room Anne heard Edith's breathing become a gentle snore.
She felt oddly calm although she suspected it was more a detachment from reality. The magnitude of what had happened would strike home sooner or later for all of the crew but Anne's strict upbringing made her internalize the emotions at this time. Grief was a thing that the Yeo family did in private.
Anne stood up quietly and went to the window, staring at the stars had a calming effect on her. There was so much more out there that anyone could possibly imagine. Somewhere out there, there was a reason for the way things were. So she had been told as a child, and so she still believed, that the Universe had its reasons for being the way it was.
When Andre had left her, she had spent countless hours trying to figure out the "why". Why he had gone, to start with. And later, why she had loved him. Later still, why she had met him at all. Eventually she had to give up, of course. There was no why. It was just the way it was. Just like the stars out there, they just existed. Which didn't actually make the pain go away, but - well, somehow it helped to accept grief, simply, naturally. It was the way it was.
Anne's eyes were dry, but in her heart she was crying. For the Captain, and for Andre - and for all of those left behind.

Ensign Kiya Meritamun, Medical Officer's Duty Log |

=/\= Sickbay =/\= She'd been late to meet with the Commander, but Security issues kept slowing things down and she hated being late... Oh well, she thought, nothing she can do about it now. Having returned to Sickbay, Kiya bent over a patient and attempted to surture a wound. She could feel her shadow protesting the tension riding everyone in sickbay. It's desire to materialize and stand guard warred with her own command for it to remain hidden. The last thing anyone needed right now was a very large somewhat scary being with the head of a jackel to appear out of thin air. She finished the repairs and said something soothing to the patient, then turned... right smack into Ptolomy. She frowned at him, who in return glowered at her. "What is it Ptolomy." She stated. "I am here to protect you, am I not?" He inquired. "I thought we discussed this earlier." She hissed up at him, from her dimunitive height. "You agreed you would stay out of my domain." He started to protest, but she waved him off in irritation, ending the discussion again, and walked past him over to Amily to request more vials knowing he was following close behind her. It really did not occur to her to wonder yet how he'd managed to get past security. It was, afterall, his job to protect her. She just didn't have to like it. She inquired of the vials from Amily then looked more closely at her, the hairs on her neck rising just a bit. Amily still clung to the vials and Kiya tilted her head at her and spoke carefully. "I've got them Lieutenant," Kiya began to say, then noticed that something was indeed very wrong here.Looking the other woman in the eye, she grew concerned. "Are you all right there?" Things happened rather quickly after that point. One moment Kiya was trying to communicate with Amily, then next moment Amily was passing out and slumping to the floor. Before anyone could register what had happened, Ptolomy had stepped forward and caught her mid slump, then moved to lay her on a nearby and luckily empty biobed. Kiya moved over quickly, followed by Selin, and examined Amily with a trichorder. After a few moments she looked at Selin. "It appears, Lieutenant, that she is suffering from extrememe exhaustion." She put the trichorder away and closed her eyes for a moment, feeling around with her senses the nodded. "I would suggest that we retire her to her quarters for the rest of the day." Selin nodded, her gaze flicking over to Ptolomy. "Why don't you and your...guard... escort her to her quarters, Ensign." Kiya nodded. "Yes Sir." She stated, stiffling an amused grin. While her superiors were informed of the situation regarding her bodyguard, she knew that many of them would find him odd, if not a bit irritating, while others would find him fascinating. She herself found him comforting, infuriating, and handy when in need of transporting an unconcious medical officer. She turned to Ptolomy who had already picked up Lieutenant Ashlexa and then lead them out the door of sickbay, passing security's raised eyebrows on the way...

=/\= Corridor outside Sickbay =/\=
Ptolomy carried the Lieutenant easily as he followed Kiya down the hall. "Meri, do you even know where her quarters are?"
Kiya looked over her shoulder at him and narrowed her eyes. "Computer, where are Lieutenat Ashlexa's quarters located." The computer blurted out the deck and section and Kiya frowned, then turned to a pannel and brought it up on screen so she could see a visual. She turned an nodded at Ptolomy who merely smirked down at her then proceeded to follow her down the corridor.
Blinking her eyes heavily a few times, Amily looked right into the eyes of the gentleman who was carrying her.
Still not quite fully concious, she wrinkled her forehead, first in confusion, then in a moment of fear.
"Who...who are you?" the medical officer said before she looked over and saw a more familiar face.
Looking down at his temporary charge, Ptolomy bit back a smile. Meri had looked at him the first time he'd caught her after one of her fainting spells. "I am Ptolomy." He stated kindly in a gruff baritone.
Kiya didn't appear to be the least bit alarmed at the presence of the much larger man who seemed a bit out of place without a Starfleet uniform on. His tanned arms easily held the Amily's weight, made even more apparent by the muscle definition visible under his simple tunic. While her mind was full of thoughts and questions about where she was, what had happened to her and who this strange man was, her exhaustion kept Amily from speaking more than a few words at a time. "Ptolomy who?" she said rather clumsily.
He smiled down at her. "Lucian Ptolomy Thutmose Nehsi of Thebes," he gave a half bow of his head to her "Protector of the Singer of Amun."
Kiya glanced up at him sharply, irritated that he'd tagged that at the end of things. Bad enough that his name was longer than hers, he didn't have to add his service to the end of things.
"okay, if you say so," Amily smiled sheepishly, entirely forgetting her manners as she replied to the mans formal introduction of himself.
The three continued down the corridor, Amily trying hard not to squirm in Ptolomy's arms. She had never been comfortable with people carrying her, always feeling as though she would fall or be dropped to the ground at any time.
"I assure you, I will not drop you Lieutenant."
"No, he saves those bumbles for me." Kiya grumbled under her breath and came to a stop at Amily's quarters.
Amily laughed a bit, almost nervously in response to Kiya's remark. Her mind was telling her that she had probably pulled herself back to normal, and was no longer prone to fainting spells due to exhaustion.
"I think I'm feeling well enough to walk by myself," the dark haired officer said almost pleadingly, as she looked into Ptolomy's eyes. His expression remained relatively unchanged in response to her request, and after a brief pause simply looked over in Kiya's direction. Biting back a chuckle, Kiya nodded her head at him, indicating he could put her down, knowing he'd keep an eye on her and swoop her right back up if she didn't seem steady enough on her feet.
"You can try to walk, but you will sit down when we get inside." Kiya stated brooking no argument
The door slid to the lieutenant's quarters opened readily as Amily was slowly let down by Ptolomy. Her legs wobbled only slightly as her feet hit the floor and the rest of her body regained its balance. Taking a few steps, she went into her quarters, with Kiya and her "friend" no more than two feet behind her.
Turning around, Amily smiled and held out her arms, attempting to show the two that she was back to her usual self.

=/\= Ashlexa's Quarters, Deck 6 =/\= Ptolomy crossed his arms over his chest and stood just inside the door, letting Kiya take over. He almost grinned at the determination radiating from the Lieutenant.
Motioning to the sofa, Kiya smiled at Amily then walked past her and headed to the replicator. "What sort of soup do you like, Doctor?" Kiya inquired as she ordered one of her teas for the young woman. "Soup? Oh I'm not really..." Amily began to say, before noticing two very stern and strict looking faces staring back at her, "Chicken noodle soup would be great. Thank you, Ensign." Amily sat down heavily on the sofa, sitting herself back towards the cushions. It was looking like she would be sitting for a good deal longer, or at least until the two left. Ordering the soup, Kiya took the small bowl in one hand and a tea tray in the other and carried both over to the table beside the sofa. Ptolomy stepped forward while Kiya handed the soup to Amily. He efficiently poured a cup of tea and set it before Amily. "The soup will be good for you, and the tea will help you sleep." She held up a hand before Amily could protest. "You just passed out becaues you are exhausted. Drink both tea and soup, then go to bed." Frowning, knowing she wouldn't be able to win in an arguement against the Ensign and her much larger companion, she sipped her soup. Amily despirately wanted to get up and get right back to what she was doing, and was almost delusional in believing she could. "I'll promise to be good...I'll go to sleep as soon as I'm finished here. But could you please do me one favor?" she said emotionless, shifting her stare back and forth from Ptolomy to Kiya
Kiya smiled at Amily and nodded to Ptolomy who had already headed to the door. "What else do you require before we leave you to your own devices?" Kiya smiled friendily.
"Just...please don't spread this around," Amily stated plainly. Her expression shifted to a more somber one as she explained more, "I just don't want people to think I'm weak. Or people to worry about me, especially Lieutenant Finn," Amily blurted out. Blushing a bit, she continued blurting more names. "Or...Triss...or any of the command staff."
Kiya couldn't help herself, she laughed-- a bright airy laugh that seemed to float about the room and wraps its self around everything, adding light with the strange musicality of it. "That is not what I was expecting." She said smiling at Amily. "Do not worry, we all run ourselves down now and then." She reached down and squeezed Amily's hand.
"Yes," Ptolomy commented from behind. "I was really assigned to Meri because she wouldn't take care of her self." He grinned broadly knowing Kiya Meritamun wouldn't appreciate him telling that little bit of information. Letting a small laugh out after that last comment, Amily found that it made her feel better. Her smile still fixed on her face, Amily looked at the two people standing near her. She couldn't help but notice that they had a unique relationship, but found that she was too polite to inquire about the nature of their relationship.
"Well, once again, thank you for accompanying me to my quarters...and for the soup."
Nodding and taking a few steps back, Kiya smiled at her. "You are most welcome." She paused and tilted her head to the side considering a thought. "Perhaps when you are feeling better we could meet for tea?" She shrugged sheepishly, suddenly looking much younger than her 28 years. "You could feel me in on the who's and whats of the ship." "Definitely, I'd be happy to," Amily replied, sipping her tea and clearing her throat to speak once again. "Will Ptolomy be accompanying us as well?" she spoke, her tone not indicating entirely whether she was kidding about having Kiya's companion along.
Smirking slightly Kiya cast a look at Ptolomy. "That is entirely up to him as he rarely bothers to inform me of his actions ahead of time." She smiled fondly. "However, I would suspect he probably will be around."
Ptolomy, having openen the door, merely stood and waited for Kiya to join him, although a small smile did tease the edges of his lips.
"I look forward to seeing you later, Kiya," Amily called out from the sofa. She knew better than to attempt to get up to walk her guests to the door. Kiya smiled and nodded, then turned to exit the room. "Good rest and pleasant dreams Amily Ashlexa..." she trailed off and followed Ptolomy out the door and headed to their own quarters, leaving Amily to her rest.
