: The most wonderful two days ever...
It seems as if the fates have decided to make up for my heartache over a certain French someone... for they recently presented me with two of the most thoroughly excellent days that I have ever had.
I dropped the dog off at the local kennel, a tiresome business that involved crawling through the dog-door myself to get him to stay in. I then returned to my beloved Portland, Maine for an overnight shopping trip.
The first item on my agenda was to eat at my favorite gourmet pizza restaurant. I ate pizza with pesto sauce and fresh tomato slices, as well as pizza with spinach, garlic and broccoli, and topped it all off with a large helping of the world's best tiramisu. I flirted with the attractive waiter, who eyed me as I left, and then went to the hotel.
After unpacking I spent time at two of my favorite stores, the craft store (when I purchased a good number of crystal beads) and the beauty supply store, where I bought a certain kind of henna that turns the hair auburn, as well as a few other choice items. I then headed to the Maine Mall for a bit, where I found many lovely shirts, most of which were on clearance sale.
After catching sight of a girl with a Victoria's Secret shopping bag and realizing that there was a large sale taking place, I went lingerie shopping. I am now the proud owner of a very chic set of lingerie, as well as a pink fleece-lined bathrobe. I was also found creative inspiration and realized that I could customize more plain sets of knickers with rhinestones and sequins- much in the same style as the pair that I bought.
I puttered around the mall a bit more and then returned to the hotel for some rest. When my appetite returned I went to another favorite restaurant and had smashed potatoes and filet mignon steak. I then discovered that my own recipe for smashed potatoes was nearly identical to that of the restaurant (after three or more years of attempting!). This made me very happy indeed...
The next morning I purchased a last-minute item at my craft store, had a peek at the sale at Talbot's, and went to South Portland for pancakes at my favorite diner. Following that, I ventured into Freeport to shop at my favorite bead store-and spent a small fortune in the process (all in all, this makes eighty dollars spent on beads). I then went into my favorite clothing outlet and shopped around a bit, and once I was thoroughly tired out I decided to make the trip home.
Returning to Portland was wonderful, and it felt so natural, as if the visit had been inevitable. Hardly a thing had changed about the dear old place, and I made a belated New Years resolution-that I would attempt to make Portland a larger part of my life. While I lived in that city for a mere two years, I have always, and will always, consider it to be my hometown.
