Good morning. My voice is still hoarse, my feet still hurt, and my body is killing me. I have no eloquent way of saything this but last night I was mugged/robbed. I was not hurt or beaten in any way - so it's more of a robbery that happen a 3 ft away from me. Not to mention my set bag containing everything of importance is an extension of myself.
If you truly care about the details: After finishing that day at WCT I walked back up Clark to school, entered through the front. Picked up my lion mask and hair clippers as I was heading downtown to cut Kyle's hair and enjoy a night of cereal and Futurama. Walked out the back and back to the bus stop in front of Axum. It's 7:30 at this point and still light out. Man on a bike rides by and inspects my bag in front of me. I'm tired and the bag's plastic piece is broken - it can really dig into your shoulder. So I set it in front of the stop and I sit down. Less than 5 minutes go by and he rides by at full speed and grabs my bag. I run after him kicking off my shoes in the process so I can run faster. I lose my ipod. I scream at him, begging him, he just keeps going faster and turning corners, I can't keep up. I do what I can only do: scream and beg people in cars for help. Lucky for me 3 people search the area. I only make it to McClean and Powell before I'm out of steam but feel tingly from the adrenaline (this doesn't go away for a couple of hours). I'm scared shitless. My lion mask I had been working so hard on (but now luckily have the negative) was gone. My personal makeup. My hair trimmer. My wallet. My keys. How am I supposed to get home now? I'm shoeless, bus passless, in hysterics. How am I going to do makeup? The brush my auntie gave me and helped me get into this business is gone forever. Everything gone. Driver's license, school ids, military id, discount cards, bank cards, $120 cash, and a $200 check. The police show up. I give them a description and they sweep the area after 1 of the women in the cars swear he and 5 others are searching through it underneath the port overpass. No luck. However I see in the road a red object that looks familiar. My cell phone! They almost go over it but miss it. Thankyou Stephen for the case covering. I immediately text Kyle I'm not coming and why. I call mom and she cancels my cards. My dad calls. I talk to the police. We sweep the roads again. I get my shoes. Everything's long gone. After all they showed up a little less than 5 minutes after it happened. What else could they do really except take a description than take action? This is typical. This is frustration. Welcome to Canada.
They give me a ride home even though I have no keys and really nowhere close by to stay at. Darryl next door is home and he climbs the roof and breaks into Jodi's room. I need to replace her screen window. I thank the officers, get the case number, go inside, quickly feed the cats, and then talk to Mom on the landline. And cry and sob. Constant reassurance that I'm alive and safe and that all those things are replacable. I'm allowed to buy whatever I need immediately (which I am pricing this morning). I call the bank and confirm cancellations. I still have my passport and checkbook. I talk to Stephen. I talk to Dad. I take a bath and wash my feet. My body feels like it ran 10k but my mind can't keep repeating those first initial seconds and then a pang of guilt, sadness, and hopelessness takes over me. I'm trying to forget this but I never will. I talk to Kyle who tries to take my mind off of that evening. I tell him I wish he or a couple of the other gamers could stay the night b/c I keep hearing noises and keep thinking it's the front door alarm. I turn on all the lights in the house. I talk to Stephen and Kyle some more. We joke around. I ask Kyle to go get me the 1 item I had been planning to buy today - a pair of Spanx - to wear to my dress fitting tomorrow (which I wanted the mask for). I open a pomtini, barely drink any and I'm asleep.
I woke up at 8:30 and then Sara calls me. She doesn't know what happened but she knows something did since I asked her for Stan's number (I was able to get through to him last night). She's shocked and angry to the point she wants to hunt this guy down. She's wonderful. I thank her. She asks if I need anything, I tell her no. I don't want to borrow money from her as I know she's had difficulties lately. My new credit card will be here Tuesday. I'm really going to have to pull my workload at WCT to make up for 2 days of lost time. I've called them. I'm now waiting and pricing.
WCT:Understands and will cast my lion mask for free to replace it. Easleys:Sending care package free of charge.
