it was a friday. her favorite night. it was going to be busy and it meant more money.
she entered the door, all smiles and confidence. she was young and witty. good with words and knew what all men were like...well, at least in her eyes, or at least the ones she's come across with.
just as she lit her cigarette, she heard her name. a smile curled up upon her face. "damn, can't even relax for a while. well, money is important."
she was brought to a table. some familiar faces she saw. and then, one very new face. arrogant bastard, she thought. and what luck, she was presented to him. he didn't even look her in the eye as she sat down beside him. just as arrogant, she blew smoke in his face and asked, "what's your name?"
he replied just as coolly and sipped from his glass. she poured herself a drink.
after 5 minutes, and getting bored, she went to look for her friends. bitching is definitely more exciting than sitting beside a piece of wood.
"i'll be back."
and there she goes, moving out fast, not wanting anyone to notice the scars on her legs.
her friends are there, on the next table, she moved over to grab a bite from their food. lit up another cigarette too.
she liked their company, they understood her problems. well, they had them too. that's why they're in. and that's why she didn't feel lousy with them.
while mentally doing her sums, noting how far away her bank balance was to achieving enough for her degree in australia...she got worried and wondered how long it'll take to reach her goal.
she heard her name again..."what the fuck."
"where the hell you been to? they're looking for you. you better stay there and be good. make sure they are happy."
reluctantly, she walked back in.
"ooi! what took you so long? how dare you leave my friend alone?" "why? he's very happy staring at the tv...doesn't make a difference to me."
and they made her drink 3 rounds..old fashioned mafia style to apologise. brandy on the rocks was like water to her. she drank so much every night. if they thought they could get her drunk...they were stupid.
she then went back to her seat, beside him. he realised he had been alone while she was away. then she tried again. "if you aren't happy then why come here? " "i'm bored. and you are so young. what the hell are you doing here?" "i love money. i need it. and it's non of your business." "what happened to your leg?"
fuck. he saw? she thought to herself.
"it's alright. but you don't have to feel shy about it. can't really see it in the dark. let's play a game. a guessing game. u just pick whichever hand you like. and then you get whatever is inside."
she was worried. cause everyone started to look at just the two of them. she knew how sick the rest of his friends were. what good can he be?
"don't worry. just pick one." "no!! i don't wanna play," "just once okay. just once."
so she pointed to his right hand. he opened his palms. there was a $100 bill in it.
"take it. it's yours."
she was confused. and why was business so slow? they seemed to be the only table all night. she, of course, snatched the money from his hands. he smiled for the first time. he had dimples. and she noticed her friend, sitting in the corner, with her mouth opened. she signalled her to go out for a break.
"hey girl. i think you've got him. how did you do it?" "i did nothing. i wasn't even there half the time." "same magic you have girl. i wish i can be like you." "what's so good about being me? your guy is rich too. did you see the diamonds in his rolex? make him drunk and chop his hand off babe." "it's almost 1am, and business is slow. let's make them leave early for supper so we can go home early ok?" "yeah. and finish their brandy off too. haha. don't forget to order cigarettes."
"you're back? sing a song with me." then he puts his arm on her waist. ????? what happened to him? his face felt warm on her shoulder. ahhhh...the effects of alcohol. it makes the guys think she's gorgeous. she smiled and gave him another shot of brandy. yes, she was that bored. she wanted to go home fast.
"give me your number." "whatever for? nobody calls anyway. you are drunk. you won't even remember me tomorrow." "just give it to me and shut up." she gave him her number. "aren't you gonna take mine?" "no. i don't see the point."
he stood up. asked for the bill. paid for it. she saw the cash in his pocket. one big stack of hundreds and a couple of thousands. she got a little more excited.
