5:59 pm - People Are Scared of Spiders Because Spiders Are Scary
I believe my subject line sufficiently answers Erica's question, "Why are people scared of spiders?"

Today, among many other horrible things (including dealing with a horrendous file in which the seller is threatening to sue me, dealing with toxic fluid from a cyst that burst last month, and another cyst that's about to burst any day, and a non-napping baby), I had to deal with a GINORMOUS spider on my living room ceiling. I was speaking to my boss about previously mentioned file from hell when I heard Scout barking insanely in the living room. I figured he was just barking at a bird outside, and when I got off the phone I went into the living room to get after him, and saw that he was perched on top of the highest part of the couch, pointing at the disgustingly huge spider that was dangling from the ceiling. At first I actually thought it was some sort of small bird or bat. I was mortified. I ran across the street to see if my neighbor Sean would kill it for me, but he had just left for work. I came back and decided to use the super-duper extendable attachments on my Dyson to suck it off the ceiling. It was a brilliant plan, however I realized afterwards that this didn't actually kill the spider, and it could probably (because it is so huge and strong) climb back up the tube and out. So I stuck the end of the vacuum attachment on the floor, turned the vacuum back on and literally sat there for 15 minutes. After that I didn't really know what to do. So I just left the vacuum attachment on the floor, and now I'm waiting for Tom to come home and take care of it.

Now comes the really cool part of my entry. I'm going to buy one of these:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

At first I thought it was just a small vacuum, but read the description:

"Standard vacuums simply suck the live critters into the vacuum bag. But the Insect and Bug Vacuum goes one step further by exterminating them with a jolt of electricity inside the sealed chamber. It's like having your own mini electric chair for bugs! An internal trap door prevents the bugs from crawling or flying out. To empty the chamber, simply unlock the wand and empty the contents into the trash. The Rechargeable Insect and Bug Vacuum features a flexible rubber tip to trap bugs even in corners and an extendable nozzle to help reach high spots.

It uses no hazardous chemicals, traps or glues, so the unit is completely safe to use around your family and pets. The Insect and Bug Vacuum is fully rechargeable, outputting enough power to suck up hundreds of bugs per charge. It even tells you when the battery is low."

It's an electric chair for spiders!!! Genius. But I would even add to it - instead of just opening the chamber and emptying it, it should be like a diaper genie-type device, where it wraps the spider up in some sort of garbage bag-type material, so that when you empty the chamber you don't actually have to SEE the spider. Also, if for some crazy insane reason the spider isn't killed by the electric jolt, at least it's all wrapped up, and if absolutely necessary, you can put the wrapped up spider on the floor and drop a phone book on it.

11:20 am - Little Einsteins, YEAH!
As I have mentioned before, Harper loves her Baby Einstein movies (her current favorites are Numbers Nursery and Baby Van Gogh), but I have noticed that in all her DVD's the part she likes the best is the short Little Einsteins preview at the beginning. So I decided to record a couple episodes off the Disney Channel and see if she likes them - and she LOVES them. At the end of the opening song they say "Little Einsteins, YEAH!" and throw their arms up in the air. After about 3 episodes, Harper now screams and throws her arms up in the air at the same time they do - it is freakin' hilarious. Her favorite character is Quincy (makes sense, he is the most talented), so her favorite episode is the one where Quincy saves the rest of the team from the Arabian Sea - but I always wonder why the rest of the team was off without Quincy?? And although Tom and I both love the show, the one bad thing is that you get the songs stuck in your head big time, and now everytime we hear the William Tell Overture we sing "Get the pigs, get the pigs, get the pig pig pigs!", or The Moldau, one of my most favorite pieces of classical music, now has the words, "I'm lost and I am looking for mom and dad." Also, as Tom said to me the first time we watched it, they seem to have gone out of their way to make the "team" very diverse, yet they still made the white male the leader. Hmmm...Seriously though, what's wrong with June? It seems to me that her leadership skills far surpass Leo's. But it really is a great show - an excellent way to teach children about all different kinds of art and classical music.

Oh, and Harper waved good-bye to me today. Tom brings her out to the driveway while I leave for work on Wednesdays, and today while I waved to her out the window she waved back! I wanted to go back and give her a big hug, but you're not supposed to prolong your good-bye's, or go back once you've left because they will get confused (that little bit of knowledge courtesy of BabyWeekly.com newsletter).

Stay tuned for adorable pictures of Harper in her new swimsuit and blow up alligator pool!

9:46 pm - Curly Girls Unite
I've missed the blurties, blurty girls. My computer has been broken, and I've been trying to use Tom's while it's not in use, but that rarely happens. Anyway, he is trying to put Harper to sleep (a major ordeal this week, as the AC unit doesn't do much good past the hallway, and her room has been super hot), so I thought I'd get caught up and update real quick.

So my hair is crazy. It has always been crazy, but in a (kind of) good way. But about four weeks ago, it decided to relax a TON over night. Now I don't even know what to do with it! So I've been searching online for some ideas, and I came across an awesome webiste: www.naturallycurly.com. I wish this had been around while I was growing up, it definitely would have been a lifesaver. There are tips, community bulletin boards, a shop with top of the line curl products, and a product review area to see how other curlies like specific products/brands. I am pretty much obsessed with it, and hopefully I will figure out my hair soon.

Ok, Tom needs my help so I better get going.

1:05 pm - Harper Update
I know I promised Sara an update like two days ago, so I'm sorry. I was angry at the blurty because I typed up a whole entry with pictures and everything, and the stupid browser closed on me, then had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to send an error report. But I guess it is all for the best because I was updating about Harper, and there is even more to update today then two days ago. So onto the update:

Harper will be eight months old this Saturday, and she is growing like crazy! She is crawling all over the place, standing up whenever possible, and even taking some steps while holding onto me or the couch. She went from two teeth to seven teeth in ten days (you can probably guess how much sleep I got during those ten days), and another one is about to poke through. She LOVES being outside in the sun, especially with Scout - she thinks it is hilarious to watch him run around the backyard and chase the birds. She is trying all sorts of new foods, but her favorite by far is bananas, though I try not to feed her too much of them because then it's really sad when she tries to poop (they make you constipated - I have to clarify this because I thought they made you poop, which is why I thought it was so strange that she kept having these hard little poop nuggets when I was feeding her so much pureed bananas. Then I fed her even more of them to combat the nuggets, which, obviously, just made it worse. Long story short, on days that she gets bananas she also gets prunes.). She does two signs - "all done" and "milk" (which look strangely similar), and says all sorts of things, also. Her favorite is "ba ba ba", but she also says "mama", "dada" (which she said after I showed her a picture of Tom, it was really cute), and the funniest thing she has said is "ting", which reminded me of a guy I went to high school with whose name was Ting. She loves to play on both of her pianos, as seen here:

and here:

Anyway, Mother's Day was really awesome. We went to "Mom and Me at the Zoo" the day before. Harper loved the aquarium and anything else that had water, or was in the water. Here is a pic of her at the end of the day:

On Mother's Day morning, Tom and Harper gave me a diamond journey necklace, which is so beautiful. Then we went to church and visited both of our mom's. It was a really good day.

And just for fun, here is another cute picture of Harper sleeping:

6:22 pm - Cat Stabbing and Deliciousness
The other night I had a dream that I accidentally stabbed Truman with a screwdriver. Needless to say, the cat-stabbing fear is back and crazier then ever. Yesterday I had to replace the batteries in Harper's piano, which required me to unscrew the cover. I was so scared that I was going stab Truman that I actually closed myself off in Harper's room while I used the screwdriver, so Truman couldn't come anywhere near. Also, I used one of those short, stubby screwdrivers, so that just in case I did end up stabbing her, it wouldn't go too deep.

But onto the deliciousness part of my subject. I love food. Especially extra, super-duper yummy and delicious food - like my mom's cinnamon rolls, or Canlis' chocolate lava cake, or Ruby's chicken with pear sauce....notice none of these are anything I've created. That's because until recently, I was a really bad cook. Remember that part in Bridget Jones' Diary when she wanted to make a really nice meal for all her friends, and they were all going to be super impressed, and refer to her as their friend who could cook, but she ended up serving cold blue soup? Yeah, that has happened to me so many times. Like the time I tried to make dinner on our first Valentine's Day together and instead I set off the smoke alarm in our apartment from the burnt chicken and we ended up going to the pizza place right around the corner. It was particularly embarrassing since the night before Tom had made me lobster tail for my birthday.

Anyways, as much as I love eating food, I used to hate making it, but while I was preggers I decided that was going to change. I figured I had a baby on the way so I better start to learn and like to cook so I can feed my child. I remember growing up my mom always had dinner for us, and it was always delicious (even the ones that I didn't think were good at the time), and that's what I wanted to do for my children. So I've been reading cookbooks, getting pointers from my mom, and baking and cooking like a mad woman, and I have to say, I'm not half bad! And I've come across some really good recipes (and even made a few up myself), so I thought I would share some of the extra good ones every once in a while with you guys. I must confess, most of them are desserts, but that's the best part of any meal anyway! I also have a lot of amazing hot chocolate recipes since Tom and I are hot chocolate snobs now (Sara's fault).

So tonight I thought I'd share the Holy Freaking Cow Brownies. The recipe book actually calls them Oh Wow Brownies because that's apparently what people say when they eat them, but Tom and I both said "Holy Freaking Cow", so that's what we call them. It comes from the Costco cookbook, but I changed it a little, so here it is:

1 20-ounce package brownie mix (recipes calls for Ghiradelli Double Chocolate mix, Safeway brand is actually REALLY good)
Water, eggs and oil to make brownie mix (whatever the brand calls for)
About 1 cup of mini marshmallows
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (I used chocolate from Fran's, which might have been why they were "holy freaking cow" good instead of just "oh wow" good)
2 Tablespoons butter
1 cup creamy peanut butter
1 cup Rice Krispies

1. Prepare brownies according to package directions and bake for about 5 minutes less then directions
2. Pull out brownies and sprinkle marshmallows on top and return to oven for 5 minutes, or until mostly melted. Cool pan on rack.
3. Melt chocolate chips and butter in a large saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until melted; add peanut butter, stirring gently until mixture is melted; add rice cereal 1/2 cup at a time, stirring gently. Spread the chocolate mixture over the marshmallows with a wet spatula. Cool, cut into squares, devour (I added the last part, hehe).

7:11 pm - Making the World a Better Place
Today I joined SPOGG: The Sociey for the Promotion of Good Grammar:

"You are now subscribed to the SPOGG mailing list, which will send periodic e-mails about grammar, usage and outrages to your inbox.

As a member of SPOGG, you can sleep easier at night knowing you're doing your part to rid the world of bad grammar."

The SPOGG site also includes a SPOGG Blog, which chronicles some very humorous (I think) incidences of grammar atrocities. For example, an article in a magazine quoted someone calling the Pope a "whacky clown", to which the SPOGG Bloggers said:

""Whacky" is, in some quarters, an acceptable spelling for "wacky." But we don't approve of spelling it with the "whack," because to whack is to hit. Is the pope a hitting clown? We may no longer be Catholic, but we think not.

Likewise, the word crummy -- which means of little value or miserable -- should not be spelled with a b. "Crumby" describes your sheets after someone (the pope?) has eaten crackers in bed. And this makes us whacky, so don't do it."

I wonder what they would say about "whom's"...

SPOGG.org also has a SPOGG Shop (which I think should actually be called "Splurge at SPOGG", but whatever), where you can buy, among other things, a SPOGG onesie (tempting), a SPOGG lunchbox, and a SPOGG license plate frame. Basically it's my new favorite website.

4:52 pm - Yeah
Today Harper said "yeah" again...twice. Here's what happened:

We went up to Target to get some essentials, and possibly some slightly not-so-essentials. When we got there I realized I didn't have her stroller, so I put her in one of those carts that has the built-in child seat, but she completely hated it and started crying. So first thing we did was go to the infant toy isle and pick out a new toy. She LOVED the Baby Einstein lion that has the little plastic hands and feet that you can chew on, and immediately put it in her mouth and started laughing - yay, now I can get all my shopping done with a happy baby! So I grab some diapers, some no-spill sippy cups, some bibs (she is now eating two meals a day in her high chair! More on that later.), the box of Baby Einstein ABC books that Elena loved so much, a Sandra Boynton book (she is a genius), two onesies (she has grown out of all her 3-6 month clothes and I just realized yesterday that I only have two 6-9 month onesies), a cute pink cardigan (I originally didn't want to get one for her, being as today is the first day of spring and I am hoping beyond hope that it will warm up, but I relented since it snowed two days ago, plus who can resist a baby pink pointelle cardie??), and a new pair of jeans with cute little ruffle pockets on the bum. I started looking at the jewelery and skirts, but it was getting close to Harper's nap time, so I just headed to the checkout stand. The checker started ringing me up and said to Harper, "You're getting lots of stuff! Are you spoiled?" Harper smiled and said, "Yeah." I started laughing so hard because it sounded just perfect! THEN the checker started chastising me and saying that if I spoil her she will stay that way when she grows up, and nobody wants a spoiled teenager. WHAT?!? Excuse me for wanting to clothe, feed and diaper my child! The only non-essential in my cart was the lion toy, but after it kept Harper quiet and happy for almost 45 minutes, I'd say that quickly turned into an essential. And I guess the books aren't technically an essential, but reading to your child will never spoil them - that's like saying you're spoiling your kids by sending them to school. Ok, and I guess the ruffly-bum jeans were non-essential, but that's besides the point! She was making a judgement on my parenting skills based on my shopping cart. So I quickly pay, grab my bag and leave, and on the way out to the car I say to Harper, "Was she rude or what??", and Harper said, "Yeah." HA! I think she has learned to say "yeah" when she's asked a question! The other times she has said "yeah" are when I've asked "Is that a butterfly?", "Should we change your diaper?", "Are you hungry?", "Is Scout your friend?", and "Do you want to wear your Janie and Jack dress today?". I think she learned this because I used to ask "Yeah?" after I asked her a question. Like, "Are you hungry? Yeah?" and then I would feed her. Or, "Should we change your diaper? Yeah?" and then I would change her diaper. I guess when I stopped saying "yeah" after my questions (about 6 weeks ago), she just filled it in for me. So she may not know that she is saying "yes", but she DOES know that you say "yeah" after a question. Which won't be all that helpful when I ask her "What's wrong?", or when she actually wants to say "no" to a question ("Do you want to go to sleep?"), but it's adorable nonetheless.

Stay tuned for pictures of her eating in her high chair!

5:07 pm - Pictures
Thought I'd post some pictures while Harper is having fun riding Scout with Daddy.

Here she is with her tiny little teeth! This was the day they poked through her gums - you can just barely see them (front two on the bottom).

Here she is playing in her bouncy chair:

Here is Elena explaining the logistics of Baby Einstein to Harper:

One night while Allred's were here, we went over to their hotel room for a while to visit. I asked Elena if she wanted to play with Harper, which she enthusiastically said yes to, so I laid Harper down on the floor and started pulling out some toys from her diaper bag, but before I could even pull them out though, Elena laid down on her back, just like Harper and looked up at me like, "Ok, what do we do now?" Here's a pic of them playing together on the floor:

12:25 pm - American Idol
Ok, Harper went down for a nap, so I thought I'd update real quick on American Idol - not about THIS year's, but about two years ago when Mario Vasquez suddenly quit the show and shocked everyone. Remember?? Well yesterday I emailed Brett about 30 Rock (as requested by Ammon), and he gave me the gossip on several shows, including THIS little bit of info:

"Did you hear about Mario Vasquez? I guess the reason why he dropped out of
American Idol Season 4 was because he is a closet case and had exposed
himself to some guy and "pleasured himself" and the guy he did it to accused
him and the AI producers silenced him!!! TALK ABOUT A CRAZY SCANDEL! Didn't
we figure he was gay back then? He did work with Michael Jackson."

Man, I love me some shallow AI gossip.

10:01 am - TEEEEETH!!
Ok, this is gonna be quick, but I wanted to let everyone know - Harper cut her first TWO teeth yesterday!!! She hadn't been sleeping at all the last couple of nights, and she has been super grumpy and drooling like mad, then yesterday when I was giving her some teething tablets she bit down on my finger and there was a tooth there! THEN, a few hours later I noticed that there were actually TWO! She's gonna look so cute with her two little bottom teeth in! Hehehehe. This may sound weird, but sometimes it hits me all over again that I'm a mom. Like when she first started sleeping in her crib, or when she rolled over, or two nights ago when we fed her her first rice cereal. Everyone always says that it goes by so fast, but I never realized really HOW fast it goes.

Well there's not a whole lot else that is new....I will post some pics of the Allred's visit soon. There are some cute ones of Harper and Elena playing together! Ok, I must be going, time to feed Harper.

2:57 pm - An Update With Pictures
As promised, I am going to attempt to post some pictures from the last few months. Harper is watching Baby Mozart, but I have actually just rewound to the beginning, hoping that she won't notice...sometimes she is ok with it and wants to watch it again, sometimes she is utterly insulted that I would even think a trick like that would work on her. But so far so good.....so without further ado, pictures!

First off is a picture displaying Harper's knack for accessorizing:

She started teething at a little over 3 months old, so I bought her this teething ring, but all she ever wanted to do with it was wear it like a bracelet.

Next is our trip to Utah the first week of February. Now I'm ashamed to say that through the years I have become a horrible picture-taker. Not that I take horrible pictures, but that I don't take enough of them! I used to have my camera with me ALL the time, and have rolls and rolls of pictures from growing up, high school, etc, but since Harper was born I've had to make a concerted effort to take more pictures, but unfortunately I fear I failed quite miserably on our trip to Utah. I will blame it on the fact that we didn't spend the night in the same house for more then one night - we were constantly going, going, going, so I never even got a chance to bring out the camera! The one pic I took while with the Bartholomew's I actually had to take with my cell phone, so I don't know how I'll share that one (it's a cute one, too, of Calvin and Harper). AnywayS, here are a few pics from the trip:

Sleeping on the way back from Park City:

Tom with Harper in the Baby Bjorn - I love this picture, they both look so cute, hehe.

Tom and our brother in law Matt with their babies in the Bjorn's:

Here is Harper and some of her 2nd cuzzies - notice that most of them don't look too happy. That is because we took this right before we left, and they were VERY sad that Tom was leaving. He had spent almost two days straight playing card games, wrestling, playing hide and go seek, and jumping on the tramp for so long that he actually had to come in and use Zach's (the particulary cute and sad-looking one the middle) inhaler. When we assured them that we would see them in just 5 months for Grandpa Tucker's birthday party, Bree said quite dramtically, "But that's FOREVER long away, I'll be like 10!" (She is 7, and in 5 months she will still be 7).

Here are a couple pics of us on Valentine's Day - Harper's shirt says "Hug Me".

Here are a few pics from Alex's 8th birthday party yesterday (we went roller-skating):
Alex & Tucker-

Tom helping Benjamin skate-

Erica skating with Alex and Tucker-

And just for kicks, here are a couple more cute pictures of Harper:
Harper taking a nap:

And Harper laughing at her giggling pig that Aunt Heather and Uncle John got her for Christmas (there are actually lots of these pictures - she LOVES this pig. We even took a few videos of her cracking up at it...I'll have to figure out how to post those):

Perfect timing - there go the credits for Baby Mozart....and there's Harper screaming at them....

12:53 pm - An Update
I have been a bad, bad blurtier. I haven't updated in quite some time, and I didn't even respond to all the lovely comments everyone made on my last (pathetic) entry - so thank you for your encouraging words re: my frumpiness, and here, for your enjoyment, is an update:

Tom, Harper and I are back from our whirwind trip to Utah (more on that, including pictures, later), and we are kinda/sorta back into the swing of things. Harper's schedule is a little off, which in turn means that my schedule is a little off, and I still haven't completely unpacked my suitcase, and even though I've done about a trillion loads of laundry, there are still at least a million left to do...but at least I finally got all the bills paid and filed (hurray for bill pay).

So Tuesday was my birthday, and it was funny to think that last year on my birthday I was throwing up constantly and put on bed rest - and Harper was less then 1cm long!! My how THAT has changed. Anyway, Harper woke up at 5am, so I got up, fed her, played with her for a while, and at 7am I decided I was way too tired, so I handed her off to Tom who watched her while I slept for a few hours. Then he headed to his office and Harper was being rather cranky and slobbery all day (blasted teeth), but still managed to be very adorable. When Tom got home we went to the Keg, and when we got back Tom had a lovely surprise waiting for me. He took me into our bathroom and there were candles everywhere, a box of Lush bubble bath and bath bombs, and one of those cool little bath caddies that I've always wanted (the kind that goes across the tub and can hold a book, a drink, and other stuff), filled with Lindt chocolates, sparkling cider, and a book. So I chose a bath bomb and Tom took Harper into the living room and watched her while I took a most relaxing bath.

Valentine's Day was also really fun, although it was also pretty stressful. My VPN connection here at home wasn't working and I had to get a disclosure package out to a client, so I had to get Harper (and myself) ready and rush up to my office and get it sent out. Then I pulled a muscle in my back while I was trying to get Harper out of the car. But the evening went much better - Tom picked up sushi at the Great Wall Mall on his way home (we were going to make sushi together, but we were both too busy), so we had a nice (somewhat slimey) dinner, then tried to put Harper to bed for about two hours, and once she finally went to sleep we got caught up on some of our shows that we missed while we were gone.

Well Baby Bach is over and Harper is screaming at the credits (a favorite passtime of hers), so I should probably go - I promised I would read her a book when it was over. Her new favorite is Zoo, which Sara got her for Christmas - she loves the parrot!

P.S.
Is it bad that half of my VDay chocolates are gone and it's only the next day????

8:34 pm - Blah
I am feeling so blah lately. I was looking forward to a nice haircut last week, but she cancelled because of the snow. So I reschedule for this Tuesday and it snowed AGAIN, and she cancelled AGAIN. So my hair is a complete disaster, and I'm being stubborn and not rescheduling with her even though she does an amazing job. Also, NOTHING FITS ME! ARG. Plus I feel so frumpy because I stopped wearing any sort of heels when I was like 4 months pregnant, and although I've been trying to get back into wearing them again, I am totally out of practice so I have to wear "comfortable" shoes (translation=ugly).

Ok, sorry for the rant, I'm done now. So anyways, Harper is the roll-over Queen. Last week she rolled over from her tummy to her back, then two days ago she rolled from her back to her tummy, which is apparently supposed to be much harder then tummy to back, but she does it WAY more. In fact she's actually only done tummy to back that one time, and now I can't even put her on her back without her rolling onto her tummy. The weird thing is that it seems like she doesn't actually like being on her tummy, so I don't know why she keeps going onto it! Maybe just the rolling part is fun, haha.

Well we still haven't heard back about our hard drive yet. The guy actually called on Tuesday and said he is still working on it, so we'll hopefully hear soon whether or not he rescued our pictures.

Ok, sorry this was kind of a lame post, but I need to go watch my Thursday shows!

11:26 pm - RIP Pictures
Tom's laptop's hard drive went belly up over the weekend, taking all of our pictures with it. Tom bought a couple things to try and pull the pictures off the hard drive and transfer them to our other computer, but it didn't work. I pretty much start crying every time I think about all the pictures that were on there - Harper's first Christmas, her blessing day, those cute pictures we took of her for our Christmas card, our trip to Hawaii for our 5th anniversary. We're going to send the hard drive to a data recovery center to see if they can rescue our pics, but it is going to cost anywhere from $400 - $1100, and it might not even work. GAH! So upsetting.

Anyway, we've been pulling a link off Erica's chain everyday, but I can't post the pictures because we only had the software on Tom's laptop because our other computer is actually my office's computer. Anyways, Scout took off Day 12 link, Harper took off Day 11 link, and Truman took off Day 10 link. Maybe I'll be able to post the pics someday...

9:30 pm - Erica's Chain
I had a little time in between feeding Harper this evening, so Tom and I decided to make Erica a chain - there are 13 more days until she moves back to Washington, so here is the pretty purple chain we made for her:

We didn't have anyone to take a pic of both of us and the chain, so Tom just stuck his foot in there.

See you soon, Erica!!

6:07 pm - Going Gray
Peoples, I am going gray. Actually I think it is more white then gray...I've pulled out 4 white hairs in the last few months, and I think there two more hiding in there. They pop out every once in a while when I'm blowdrying, but when I go to yank I can't find them. My mom went gray rather young, so I'm thinking the same fate has now befallen me. I just hope it doesn't become even more out of control then it already is...

Anyways, I have to make this quick because Harper is starting to fuss, but here are a couple of pictures:

Watching Baby Einstein with Mommy )

11:55 am - Crazy Weather, Irrational Fears, and Pictures!
Western Washington sure has seen it's share of insane weather these last few months. It started with the flash floods in mid November, then a wind storm with some power outages, two different snow and ice storms ("Deep Freeze" and "Winter Blast" as channel 4 called them), then Thursday night was another horrible wind storm that left over 1 million people without power. We got our power back last night, but there are still about 300,000 without - both my parents and Tom's parents included. It's been crazy, peoples.

But anyways, other then the weather things are pretty good! Harper is growing like crazy and is super cute. She smiles a LOT and "talks" even more. We got some pictures taken on Friday, but it was just at Sears and the lady was really horrible. It's a good thing we had a coupon for a free sitting or I might have had to refuse to pay. Seriously. We bought one of all three of us for Christmas cards, but I'm thinking we're going to have to do some cropping and rearranging (can we do that, Kellie??). At least Harper looks cute in it, though. Speaking of looking cute, here is a picture of her bundled up after a bath in her Nordies hooded towel from the Caplis girls: cuteness )

And just as I predicted over two years ago when we had the first irrational fears discussion, I have super crazy irrational fears regarding Harper. I will start out slow and gradually work up to the super irrational ones so as not to alarm you. First of all, I am scared that she will fall down a huge flight of stairs - not so irrational you may think, only we don't even have A stair in our house, let alone a giant FLIGHT of stairs. I am scared that the blanket I have her swadled in at night will somehow work its way up around her face and smother her. I am scared that she will gouge her own eye out - partly because she always rubs her eyes with her hands, and partly because when Elena learned "eye" she used to put her finger over her eyelid and push really hard and it freaked me out. Although she seemed to rather enjoy it - she would just keep saying "Eye, eye, eye." I am scared that some crazy woman will try to breast feed her. I know, I'm weird. I think this comes from hearing a story a few years back where this daycare worker couldn't calm one of the babies down, so she whipped out her boob and started breastfeeding him and the mom came in and saw it. And lastly (and most irrational), I am scared that she will be trampled by an elephant. I honestly have no idea where this fear came from - it just popped into my head when she was about four weeks old. I think it is even more bizarre then my cat-stabbing fear.

And now for pictures!

2:14 pm - Rain, rain, go away, come again....never
Peoples, I've been evacuated. I am typing this entry from my parent's house because I had to high tail it out of my house last night at 10:30pm to avoid being carried away by the overflowing river. Actually my house is totally fine (for now), but the back of our neighborhood, the neighborhood across the street, and several other streets are all flooded. I took Harper and the kitties up here to my parent's, and Tom and Scout stayed behind, but might come up here later. Since it takes so long to get Harper and the cats ready and in the car, Tom wanted me to leave last night so just in case it did get really bad all of a sudden Tom and Scout could just hop in the car and leave and know that we were already safe. But like I said, our house is ok, but Tom has been filling sandbags all day for the Carbon River levies, which are apparently dangerously close to failing - in which case the entire city of Orting will be under a few feet of water. Yikes. I can't wait to move out of the valley.

But more importantly, I hope everyone voted today.
