Coming right along... [30 Jan 2003|09:24am]
[ mood | excited ]

Well, January 25th Clint and I went to the Tux Shop and put our deposit down for the tuxedos. We have 11 people who'll be in tuxes. We haven't picked any out yet but we discussed a few options. I'm trying to get Clint in an ivory tux and I *almost* have him sold on the idea. :) And I'm also trying to talk him into the navy tuxes we liked when we first walked in for everyone else...so we'll see.

I also called the minister and arranged for another minister to do the ceremony. A friend of hers is an interim minister at another church so she's going to talk to him. His name is John Winkler.

I also called the reception site and they have our date available as well! So we're going to have our reception at Clonmel Hall (it's like less than 5 minutes from our new house). I need to call her back and ask her what we need to do about the deposit. And since they know Clint's family the deposit is cheaper so that's a bonus.

We also met with the photographer last night and were really impressed with him. So I e-mailed him back today and told him that we were interested in his services. So we'll set up a time (after we get settled into the new house) to sign the paperwork and pay the deposit.

Plans are coming along... :)

Update on things... [17 Jan 2003|06:17am]
The Bridal Expo was a lot of fun. We got a lot of information from different vendors. It was funny...I mostly just walked around and occassionally vendors would talk to me (brides were identified by a pink sticker)...my mom, grandma, and sister signed me up for all the prize drawings and picked up the brochures for me and everything. :)

One of the coolest things I saw there was a chocolate fountain. I really don't picture us actually being able to have one though. We don't have the money for that sort of thing. I also liked the frozen drink machines but again...doubtful.

Ooh! But I did win a $40 gift certificate from The Tux Shop to go towards the tuxedos. And if we book the tuxedos by January 25th we get a discount and the grooms tux free and the ring bearer tux half price. So we'll have to look into that.

I think I've found a photographer. I'm not finding any of them that are perfect. Wedding Photographer is so expensive!! Several of them are already booked for our date. Alt's Photography so far is the cheapest with the largest amount of pictures. I'm going to set up a time to meet with him and further discuss things but I've been e-mailing him back and forth. And if we book with him before February 15th we'll recieve a lot of extras so that's always a plus. I'm still trying to decide though...

This weekend Clint and I are going to sit down and seriously discuss wedding stuff. We need to make a final decision as far as who is going to be in our wedding party and everything. And we need to make our budget with my mom and also talk to his parents to see what they are willing to contribute to.

And we also have to book the reception site still. I'm going to call Clonmel Hall myself tomorrow to ask about prices, etc. and possibly go ahead and book it. I'll feel much better once we get this scratched off our list...as well as the photographer.

Pictures [17 Jan 2003|06:15am]
First, here are the pictures of our flowers. I have pictures of everything except the orange daisies and navy blue hydrangeas.

Tiger Lilies
Calla Lilies
Roses
Freesia
Navy Flowers

And here are pictures of the dresses I tried on. You can't see a lot of the detail to them unfortunately. And excuse how awful I look...I was running on about an hour of sleep.

My favorite dress so far:
Front
Back w/ train
Back w/o train

I like this dress but I'm undecided about the spaghetti straps
Front
Back

The only thing I don't like about this dress are the buttons which go all the way down the back of the skirt:
Front
Back

I like this dress too...but it's a bit *too* poofy in the skirt:

Back

Definite plans! [11 Jan 2003|05:35pm]
Clint and I went to talk to the minister today at 2:30. We definitely decided we're going to get married at the First Christian Church by Joan McGregor. She was really nice. And everything is working out nicely.

The church probably holds about 250 people without having to use the overflow and probably 300 if we do use the overflow. And the church is free since I'm a member so you can't beat that. And we can have candles and write our own vows and personalize the ceremony to fit who we are and the kind of wedding we want (within reason). We can throw birdsead or rice (or whatever that doesn't create a mess that has to be cleaned up) but since we're having an evening wedding I'm considering sparklers but I didn't ask. I will try to remember next time we talk to her.

I'm really glad Clint decided to get married there as well. And she also said she didn't have a problem at all having a joint ceremony with a Catholic priest present for Clint if he so desired. He told me that he didn't think he'd end up wanting that but I think he was glad that she gave him the option. She also said that the priest could do our premarital counseling if needed but I would prefer not.

Next we have the reception hall. We're going to try to reserve Clonmel Hall. We're going to call to see how much it is but also have Clint's dad ask about it because Mark belongs to the Clonmel church and we aren't sure if Mark would be able to rent it for cheaper because of that. So we'll see. I hope we find out soon so someone else doesn't get to it first! :)

I'm all excited about going to the bridal fair tomorrow. :) I'll update again after I get back.

Had a really nice experience at David's Bridal... [08 Jan 2003|11:31pm]
[ mood | happy ]

We got there at 5:30 and registered and looked through the magazines to find the dresses I wanted to try on so we could show the woman who helped us (I don't know her name but she was extremely nice and helpful).

I fell in love with a dress. We didn't really find a good deal on it but it's a low price as far as beautiful wedding gowns go. Mom and I haven't decided yet whether to buy this dress or have her make it. I think we're leaning more towards buying it since she's also going to be making my daughter's dress as well. But, whether she makes it or not, this will be what my gown looks like (keep in mind my dress will be ivory):

Here is the front: a satin dress with a halter-style neckline. The front of the skirt is plain.

Here is the back the gown has beaded venice lace along the straps on the back and the top/middle of the dress. The detachable organza train has even more of the beaded lace embellishments on it.

There were many other dresses that I tried on but none I loved as much as this dress. It was just perfect. It fit wonderfully (will need to be taken in a bit around the armpits, etc. but other than that it was great. I love that it's detachable so that I don't have to mess with a huge skirt while dancing at the reception. And I really like the train being made of organza. I think this dress is really flattering on me. It shows off my figure and doesn't seem to overpower my tiny stature. I love it.

Called the church... [08 Jan 2003|10:02am]
I called the First Christian Church this morning and reserved us for October 18, 2003. :)

I talked to the minister. We're going to meet with her on Saturday to discuss some basic things and ask any questions. And then starting sometime like in the summer we'll have 5-6 sessions of premarital couseling with her. I don't think Clint was real excited about it but he doesn't mind.

So...yay. :) Everything is becoming more and more official.

Wedding Vows [08 Jan 2003|02:20am]
I'm not really interested in the traditional wedding vows but I'm also not interested in each of us writing our own. So I'm trying to come up with our vows. I gathered some ideas from here and this is what I've come up with:

Candi/Clint, I take you to be my wife/husband from this time onward,
to join with you and to share all that is to come, to be your faithful husband/wife, to give and to receive, to speak and to listen, to inspire and to respond. This is my promise to you.

Of course, it all depends on what Clint thinks of it...

My first *appointment*! [07 Jan 2003|11:59am]
I'm going to go look at dresses tomorrow!
I have an appointment at David's Bridal for 5:30pm. I'm going to look at what their prices are during this big sale they have going on (some gowns are $99). If we can find a nice dress for $99 or something then we'll get it...other than that I'm just there for ideas.

I'm currently going through every dress on their website. There are a lot of different dresses that I like. And some I might not like in person and some I may like better in person. These are the ones I'm hoping to try on (all the pictures are better at www.theknot.com) :
...8493: This dress is really simple but I think it's beuatiful. I also like the way the organza covers the train and looks sheer. Definitely one of my favorites.
...9121: I like this style...the detailed lace on the back is beautiful and I love the detachable train. The front is pretty too...I wish it was shown in this picture.
...9131: I really like this dress...one of the few with sleeves that I like. I think all the beads are beautiful.
...9194: I really like the off the shoulder sleeves and the detail on the bottom of the skirt.
...2107: I really like all the beaded lace on this dress but I can't decide if I really like the way the train looks.
...9112: This style is very pretty except I don't like how the lace kinda sticks out by the armpits.
...81081: I really like this style but the floral pattern makes it look more summery. .
...7146: I really like the skirt but I'm still trying to decide if I really like the bodice.
...2165BX: I like the style and the detail on the bodice but it's not one of my favorites.
...2751: I like the sleeves and the style but again, not my favorite.
...T8015: I like this style but I'm trying to decide if it looks too summery.
...2113:This dress looks pretty but when I look at it, I think "spring."
...5356: Same thoughts as the above dress...I think it's because of the spaghetti straps.

Plain dresses which could be added to:
2605: Ballgown Style
8433: A-line Style

Flowers! [05 Jan 2003|06:28am]
As I already mentioned, I'm having silk flowers for the bouquets, etc. Yesterday we bought some of them!

I went to Wichita with my mom and we started at WalMart and got the flowers I really liked there. Then we went to Michaels and I found the same flowers...only different material and just a *little* different in color. The flowers we got at Michael's don't have so much pink tint to them so the other flowers I liked match the Michael's flowers much better.

These are the flowers we've gotten so far:
orange/red colors: tiger lilies, calla lilies, freesia
cream roses (open flowers and buds)

I'm also thinking of adding navy blue hydrangea to break things up a bit but we haven't bought any yet.

As far as the bouquets, I have an image in my mind. My sister caught the toss bouquet at my uncle's wedding and I'm going with that shape for the bridesmaids' bouquets. It's not round but it's not exactly cascade. And I also want it to be a hand-tie bouquet. For my bouquet...I'm still trying to decide. It will either be the same as the bridesmaids bouquet only larger.

Wedding Thinking [04 Jan 2003|05:45am]
A lot of my planning/ideas have come from magazines or the internet. So until we actually *go* to the vendors and see what they have available, etc. these are simply ideas.

I think we have decided on colors though: navy blue and ivory.

I found a bridesmaid dress I like from David's Bridal. I'm pretty sure we've decided that the bridesmaids are going to be wearing Navy Blue. It's a sleeveless ballgown (the picture shows gloves but I don't intend on having them).

I'm 99% sure Clint will choose to wear the same style of tuxedo he wore to prom. Which is fine by me because I think it looks nice. And I don't have to wear it so it's really up to him anyway. The picture is actually of Clint his sophomore year. Clint's vest will probably be ivory and the groomsmen's will be navy blue.

I still haven't decided on a design for my wedding dress. I think my mom is going to make it for me if she has time and it will be cheaper than buying a dress. All I know for sure is that I want an ivory colored dress, floor-length and either an a-line or ballgown sillouette. And I don't want anything strapless or with spaghetti straps.

I'm wanting to make all the [silk] bouquets myself. I found some of the prettiest flowers while we were at WalMart the otherday that would be just perfect! I wish I had a picture of them! The flowers aren't going to match the color scheme. They are going to be warm fall colors (not reds or yellows but a reddish orange and cream). I have some really great ideas...

The engagement is official... [29 Dec 2002|06:59am]
[ mood | excited ]

Clint and I are getting married! This really isn't a new thought but now it's *official* with the ring on my finger. The ring is so beautiful. We bought it during the great sale at Kay Jewelers. You can see a picture of it here. It's 1 carat total weight. I love it.

We've finally agreed on the date October 18, 2003. Okay...so it was the only date we really discussed but we decided now. ;) Hopefully we can get everything booked for that day. I'm really excited about being married in the fall.

The first planning type thing we're going to do is book the church. At the moment, we've decided on the First Christian Church here in town.
I'm going to try to call next week or the week after to set up a time to meet with the minister and get to know her and find out the basics about the church. I don't think Clint is 100% sure yet about getting married there. It's been awhile since he's been in that church and doesn't remember much about it. And he wants to make sure that this minister is who we want to marry us as well. I have a good feeling about it though.

The next thing we're going to have to do is book a reception site. I really have no idea yet. We're going to try to find one relatively soon though so we can reserve our date. Clint has suggested Clonmel Hall so we're going to call and see how much it is and everything.

My mom, grandma, my sister, and I are going to the big Bridal Expo January 12th so I'm all excited for that. Hopefully we can get a lot of great ideas and hopefully some good deals with vendors and stuff.
