I talked with some folks at work who are already failing at their 2008 diets! What?! It's been barely a week! "It's just so hard," they said.
I started thinking about my 2008 healthy lifestyle changes, and how I am not failing or really struggling. Why? What am I doing that they are not? The more we talked the more I figured it out (and called them on it):
1) I'm not expecting (nor wishing/hoping/dreaming) to drop 50 pounds in the next month like my co-workers. My goal is to drop 30-40 pounds this year. I'm starting now so that when the end of the year comes, I will have passed my goal and be well on the road to my next weight goal (the ultimate goal is to drop 100 pounds total). With this type of goal, though the number on the scale isn't dropping dramatically yet (again, it's been barely a week), I'm not beating myself up and losing hope.
2) I'm not dieting, I'm changing the way I live my life. That's why things like meditation and prayer are on my resolution list.
*shakes her head* Humans are very curious creatures indeed.
So, though it's only been a week, I hope you all are doing very well this new year.
