Water Challenge! [09 Oct 2007|01:16pm]
[ mood | excited ]

What if we told you there was something that was virtually free that was calorie free, all natural, would make your skin glow, rev your metabolism, speed weight loss, improve your overall health and energy, and maybe even prevent you from catching that nasty cold that's going around?

Well, it does exist, and it's widely abundant, and yet most people don't get enough of it.

What is this wondrous stuff you ask? Water!

This week's challenge is to get 2 liters (about 8-9 glasses a day) of water a day for the next week! This challenge can yield some pretty impressive results, especially if you currently get a lot of your calories from beverages, and you start drinking water or a calorie free equivalent instead. It is estimated that Americans get approximately 20% of their calories from beverages, which isn't surprising considering the caloric content of sodas, juices, and coffee drinks available today. Additionally, most adults are chronically dehyrdated.

If you're not a big water drinker, this challenge might sound tough, but there are lots of ways to meet this daily quota.
- Drink a glass when you wake up, a glass before going to bed, and a glass before each meal.
- Keep a water bottle handy throughout the day, and keep on drinking. You'll be surprised how much quickly you'll get your 2 liters if the bottle's in plain view!
- You can also add flavor to water by adding sliced berries, citrus fruit, or cucumbers to a pitcher of water and keeping it in the fridge. It's delicious and refreshing! Also, you can add a squirt of lemon or lime juice for extra flavor.
- Decaf teas count too! This is an especially good tip if you like a little flavor in your beverage...there are limitless possibilities when it comes to decaf teas...raspberry, almond, blueberry, apple cinnamon, you name it, the flavor exists. Seltzers are also a popular choice.
-You can also increase your overall level of hydration by eating foods with high water content like broth based soups (low sodium soups are best), healthy shakes (made using fruit, low/non fat milk or soy milk, and ice cubes), and by eating fruits and veggies, which have a naturally high water content.

So who's in???

Next week we'l have a wrap up post to see how everyone did!
