I was doing some walking this week (some straight uphill with a couple bags on my shoulders), and I noticed was just sweating like a pig. It wasn't exactly warm out (mid-60s F); I wasn't overly-dressed or carrying extra weight in my bags; I've done this walk before. Also, I take a bennie and betablocker daily to keep my anxiety levels low (so it wasn't anxiety related).
Anyway, I came across this article in Weight Watchers November/December 2006 issue, and it kind of clued me in to what may have triggered all the sweating:
Q: I sweat more than other people when I exercise. Is that normal?
A: Yes--and congratulations! If you're exercising at the same intensity as the people around you, excessive sweating can mean you're in better shape than you thought. "The more fit you are, the faster you start to perspire to cool your body down," says Dixie Stansforth, M.S., a fitness lecturer at the University of Texas. "Beginning exercisers sweat less because their bodies haven't learned how to cool down properly through perspiration." Sweat should also be your cue to hydrate yourself. As you increase exercise intensity, you lose about 1 pint of sweat an hour (about two 8-ounce glasses of water).
Expert Advice Drink 4 to 6 ounces of water before any activity; then consume 6 to 12 more ounces of water for every 15 to 20 minutes that you exercise. Does this sound accurate? Or does anybody have any tips/guesses as to the excessive sweating? Just curious. :)
