Holiday Helpers [18 Dec 2006|09:50pm]
1) Practice Portion Control
If I have one mantra for the holiday season, it would have to be: All things in moderation. Keep your serving sizes in check at all times and you really can enjoy your favorite holiday treats without gaining weight.

2) Take a Walk
Stay active during the holidays and those extra pounds won't creep up on you. A 30-minute brisk walk every other day can do wonders for maintaining your waistline.

3) Cook Smarter
By putting to use tips to make your normal holiday meals healthier, small changes can add up to make a big difference. For example, choosing fruit for dessert can cut hundreds of calories from each meal.

4) Cope with Cravings
Face it: Food cravings are a part of life. So, if you can't avoid them the best way to fight back is to be prepared to face them with tried-and-true coping skills like: drinking water! Sometimes we can mistake dehydration for hunger or cravings. Your body is telling you that you need something, and you assume it's food... take a chance and sip some H20, it may be just what you need.

5) Don't Give Up!
The worst thing you can do when it comes to weight loss during (and after) the holidays is to give into all-or-nothing thinking. Don't allow yourself to give up on weight loss entirely after a few slip-ups. It's never too late for a fresh start!
