I was flipping through some health books at work yesterday and came across one that really has some great pointers. (It's called Bulimia: A Guide to Recovery by Lindsey Hall and Leigh Cohn for those who are interested, pages 150-151.)
Here's a list of suggestions for improving your body image I found very useful(!):
- Smile more, look happier.
- Walk and speak with dignity. Let your body language reflect this emerging pride.
- Go to a dance or yoga class and leave your inhibitions at home.
- Use affirmations to change negative self-talk.
- Try guided imagery and visualization techniques to support self-acceptance and to handle fears associated with body changes.
- Make friends with some large men or women.
- Notice that everyone's body is different and stop comparing yourself. Neither ultra-thin models nor the super heavy should be judged by their bodies, and neither should you.
- Practice movement exercises to reacquaint yourself with how your body feels.
- Appreciate your sexuality. Have an orgasm!
- Thank your body for all the good things it does for you. Pamper it with massages and warm baths.
- Take a couple of days off for a personal vacation during your menstruation.
- Get moderate daily exercise.
- Buy clothes that fit.
- Stop looking in the mirror so often and judging specific parts of your body. See the whole.
- Throw out--or destroy--your scale.
- Accept compliments graciously, knowing that beauty on the outside reflects the beauty on the inside.
- Read books on improving body image.
Any other suggestions?

Okay, so I've got a question.
I'm having a big party in about two weeks, and I want to look amaaaazing.
Has anyone ever done Atkins or South Beach? I was thinking about going phase 1 until the party, and I was wondering how much weight you really lose from doing it.
Also, I'm looking at dresses!
Here's a black beaded dress, a red dress, ablack and white polka dot dress, and a maroon dress.
Suggestions are welcome too! The following things either look bad on me or aren't approprite for the party: nothing long, no empire waists, no wrap dresses, no pastels, nothing too sexy (some work people might be there), and nothing that requires big boobs. Also important...the dress must be under $200.
Thanks!!!

Hope everyone's doing well lately.
I'm putting in extra effort as far as eating right and getting whatever exercise I can squeeze in...
Gotta look fabulous for all those holiday parties!
Yesterday I did about 25 mins of pilates, and I'm off to do another stint now!
My last day of class is on Thursday, and I'm going to do whatever I can to get into amazing shape over the next month I have off from class!
Good luck to everyone who's suffering through finals... <3 N
