Quick update...

Food has been horrendous.

Workouts have been good! I managed to go running twice this week, and I also squeezed in a really good weight lifting workout! What's been working for me is committing to shorter workouts because it's almost impossible to talk myself out of them, and...once I start, I usually end up working out longer. So, for example, I'll tell myself...I'm just going to warm up, run two miles, and cool down. You know? Basically, doing a few 20-30 minute workouts a week is better than getting one 45 minute long workout twice a month.

Now...if I can just keep up the workouts and address that whole food thing, then maybe the scale would get unstuck and move in the right direction....

Off to the journal to catalogue food intake....

How's everyone doing??

Vacation Time....... Almost... lol........ [22 Sep 2009|02:49pm]

In about 4 more hours I will be catching the shuttle to ride up to the Minneapolis airport. That is where I will be catching my plane out of here in the morning.
Originally I was leaving just after 6 am which meant taking the first shuttle in the morning would be cutting it close. So I decided to spend the night in the airport. Now I am leaving at 7:25 am, but I decided to just keep my over night stay and take it easy getting through security and finding my way around. Which could be fun seeing as my flight doesn't have a gate assigned to it yet. :p
Plus right now I am tired enough to actually get some sleep at the airport. *YAWN*
Anyway, I am going to be without internet for awhile at least until I get to my brother's place on the 28th. Not sure how much I will be able to get on there either.
So I apologize ahead of time for missing all of your up coming entries.
I will be back home late on October 5th. Please update me when I get back with what has been going on in your lifes.

Dangers of Detox Diets

A lot of people have been asking about detox diets recently, and I thought this article was really good and really illuminating..it does a really good job illuminating the thin/healthy diet/detox relationship. Check it out.

If you were to go off your diet, what's the first thing you would eat that's not "good"?

It took me a good 12 hours plus to break down and eat something "naughty". lol...
And what did I finally have? I had some toasted marshmellows and Special K bars. One of my brothers and SIL were having a picnic and bonfires and marshmellows so go together. :)
It was so YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p

Diet Update.... [17 Sep 2009|09:04am]

Well, I did it again. :p
It was one of those weeks where I thought for sure I had gained some weight. Seriously, I was expecting a pound or two.
Surprise… Technically it's a lose, and I am sticking by that. :p

Hello Group! [17 Sep 2009|08:28am]

I joined this group a couple months ago but have yet to post! My name is Jeann and I have been working out and eating healthy for the past 4 months. I lost 23-26 pounds, as it fluctuates, and I'm starting to hit what is often described the 'plateau'. However, I feel (more) fit than I have ever bee-- I run 2.5 miles 4-5 times a week and eat plenty of nutritious meals. I am just wondering - - I am not eager to lose more weight, but rather maintain the weight I am at. Is it possible to reduce my exercise routine and maintain a moderate to mostly healthy eating routine to maintain the weight that I'm at? I am feeling afraid that I will put all my hard work to waste by gaining it back in a matter of weeks! I'd appreciate any tips or suggestions.

Well, after a good couple of weeks, it had to slow down.
This week was kind of a throw away week for weighing. One of those where you could have just skipped because nothing really happened. Lol…..

I have been trying to be REALLY good since the weekend because I was kind of bad over the weekend. We had pizza and that is one of my big downfalls. :o

Well apparently I really was REALLY good since then. The scale had great news. :)

I'm feelin' good.

I have been eating super healthy and cutting back on the wine, which is my one caloric vice. Ugh.

Now that I'm finally feeling better, I've been working out. Because the weather's been super nice, I've been trying to get ouside for lots of walks, and yesterday I had a stellar weight lifting workout at the gym, and I am sore. I'm going to try to get to the gym for weight lifting once a week because I seriously need a total body tone up.

I weighed in, and because of the healthy eating, I haven't gained anything back that I lost post stomach bug, so I guess that's good. I'm hoping that in a day or so, I'll see an actual loss....fingers crossed.

How's everyone else doing???

I think I can look at it as a good thing that I am starting to look at restaurant commercials differently.
I use to just think, Hmm that looks good(or not).
Now I am noticing I go, Hmm, that looks good, but it is way too much proprtion wise.
I guess I am learning.

I LOVE surprise weight loses. :)
I really felt I was probably going to have another small weight gain, which of course is better than a big weight gain. :p

But I stepped on the scale and surprise. :)

awesome veggie sandwich recipe [24 Aug 2009|07:56pm]

secrethoughts
So after having a nasty stomach bug, I was trying to come up with something super healthy to eat for my first proper meal that would also use a bunch of my veggies from my most recent csa share. Here's what I came up with. Feel free to substitute whatever veggies or beans or what not that you have on hand. I think this is a pretty flexible recipe.

Bread: Any kind will work. As the sandwich has the potential to be kind of messy, pita can work well, and of course any kind of whole wheat bread works well too.
Spread: In a food processor, blend one can of rinsed black beans, one can of risned red kidney beans, about 2 tbsps of olive or canola oil, a few dashes of salt, a few dashes of onion powder, about 2-3 tbsps of lemon juice, 3 crushed cloves of garlic, and blennnnnd. Now, I'm very much a taste-as-you-go cook. This may be too garlic-y for you, so you may want to taste and season accordingly. If this mix is too thick, adding a bit more water, lemon, or oil to taste will fix that.
Roasted/grilled veggies: Coat some eggplant, summer squash, and zucchini in olive oil, salt, and pepper, and grill/roast for about 10-15 minutes until soft and golden brown.
Other veggies: While the other stuff is roasting or grilling or whatever, slice up some tomatoes and avocados, and get some spinach or other greens ready.
When the roasted veggies are all set, smear the spread on both pieces of bread, and layer the spinach, avocadoes, tomatoes, and roasted veggies, and enjoy!

I only wish that I had taken a picture of it! It was really colorful, so visually appealing. Also, it was really tasty and so good for you. Tons of iron and protein from the beans...vitamins, omega 3s, fiber, all sorts of good stuff.
