2:31 am - Prelude To A Triumphant Return
Wow, I haven't written in this journal thing in quite a long time.

I've been writing and recording like a madman. I haven't played a live show in over 6 weeks and I'm itching to get back out again, but I want to get these songs finished first. I'm borrowing a bass guitar from someone this week to lay down all the bass tracks, and then there'll be a whole slew of new stuff on the site. In fact, there already is a bunch of new stuff...2 of the 3 songs recorded at Major Sound Studios are now up (A December Night's Betrayal and Stained Glass/Dunce Caps), as well as an instrumental I wrote and recorded on my laptop.

There's an interesting sense of satisfaction that comes from doing instrumentals. It's fun to play with textures and layering, and build a song and melody out of something other than words. It's quite a challenge for me, considering that I'm generally more of a lyric-based songwriter. There's so much more you can do when you're not confining yourself to typical song structure.

At any rate, look for me to start turning up the gears on this website. Come the new year (possibly before), look for TTS dates to start popping up all over.

2:31 pm - Cool as ice...
Once again, it's horrible outside. We were all teased with the idea of nice weather, but it's been unceremoniously stripped from our consciousness. Damn.
Well, like I posted before, I've uploaded another song onto the net. You can hear it by cutting and pasting this link: www.mp3.com/the_trio_serenade
It's called "Those Burnt Out Have Spoken." It's got a really spacey tone to it (I ran Dominic's bass through a myriad of effects pedals in an effort to attain the desired effect), and the melody is one of my favorites. The mix is somewhat iffy, however, and, since I've yet to come up with a definitive ending, it kind of falls apart at the end. Sometimes, though, I find that such sonic entropy can be endearing.
We also worked on 2 new songs last week. They're basically done; it's just a matter of the four of us being on the same page. I'm confident, however, that we'll be fine come the 26th. One song, called "Dressed For A New Order," has one of the most interesting rhythms that I've ever heard, thanks to the funky stylings of Dominic and Bill. I can't wait to play that live. Sometimes I feel like Seabass and I don't even need to play guitar, because they do such an awesome job of capturing the essence of the songs I bring to the table. I'm hoping that we eventually start writing as a group, but as for now, I'm fine with how everything is going. I have about 30 songs stockpiled and ready to go at some point...so we'll constantly have new material.
Anyway, it's time to face the cold. Speak to y'all soon.

6:56 pm - Rock
Well, I spent all day yesterday doing a whole bunch of web promotion. Hopefully it will raise awareness of the rock and roll extravaganza that is The Trio Serenade. Also, I posted a new mp3 to the mp3.com site...visit here at www.mp3.com/the_trio_serenade.
I've also been writing a whole lot. I've been listening to Trail of Dead and Cave In an awful lot, and it's definitely influenced what I've been doing, albeit on a very elementary level. Those bands are head and shoulders above what I'm able to write at this point...but someday...haha
That's all for now, take care.

2:37 am - YEAH!
Well, so the first show came and went, and I have to say, it was a blast. At the last second I decided on performing with a full band (utilizing the newfound lineup of Dominic Nicosia on bass, Bill Schriver on drums, and Rick Tatham on guitar) despite the fact that The Trio Serenade had never actually practiced as a full band until last Sunday. We had 3 songs ready to go, and I had ideas as to how we'd perform two others, even though nobody else actually knew how they went.
What transpired was true rock and roll...a 5 song set that was essentially a 20 minute improv session. The feeling that comes with playing on stage, having no idea where a song is going to go, is amazing, especially when it all winds up working out in the end.
Even better, we were really well received, which made everything even more satisfying. Apparently there is a videotape of the set...I haven't seen it yet, but if it's good quality, it'll find its way onto the web.
Anyway, it was a great way to debut. We're playing again on April 26th, at the Broadway Central Cafe, with Rectify The Names (who also rocked the house tonight...it was fun to see Dom pull double duty).
Well, I'm tired and it's time for bed. I know I said there'd be more mp3s, and there will be soon, I promise....

5:08 pm - Acoustic Love
This afternoon I decided to rock out by myself. I turned on my laptop recorder, and just played away on a crappy sounding acoustic guitar and sang my heart out without caring whether I was in key or not. Surprisingly, the results are pretty damn good. I even did a cover...of the song Blueprint by my other band, Rue. I used to mess that song up all the time but it came out pretty well. I'll post a few of these tunes on the site this week.
If you want, email me at thetrioserenade@aol.com and I can even send out a CD of these tunes and other demos I've done. The official TTS debut EP on Nowhere Collective Records is on hold for a few weeks..Rectify the Names and From Jaws To Planes still need to finish up their 7" before I can start making plans. In the meantime, though, I'll be recording demo after demo to post on this site.
Damn, time for class.

1:55 am - And We're Off...
Okay, well this is my first attempt at using one of these online journal things. I'm normally not a huge fan, but I wanted an easily accessible journal page for my website, so this is it (for now).
As for the website, I'm glad it's finally up and running. Thanks to Dan Sama for putting it all together. From a music perspective, there will be a few more mp3/lyric additions in the coming days, once I get a chance (uploading mp3s fom a dial up is a tiresome process).
I wish I could say there'd be Trio Serenade shows in the coming weeks, but seeing as to how I can't play all the instruments myself, I may be getting ahead of myself. Maybe I'll do shows acoustically, or maybe I'll sequence a rhythm track on my laptop and be all high-tech...who knows. One of these days I hope to have a full band performing under this vision and this name, because playing with a band gives you such a sense of satisfaction. At the same time, having others as interested and involved as you helps keep your confidence high. We'll see. There are a few people who've offered to play, but as of now it's just me.

Quote of the day (in reference to my roommate and I discussing the tasty qualities of veal):
Cause Chasing Girl- "I won't eat veal because they're so mean to the baby cows."
Reality Chasing Roommate- "Do you think they were especially nice to the adult cow they killed to make your leather purse?"
