Barbra Streisand was phenomenal.
I drove up to St. Paul and found a parking spot. I went several blocks over into a residential area to park for free. Parking in St. Paul is way too expensive. I saw one place that had a sign, Event Parking $20.00. I don't think so. I would rather walk several blocks and park for free. Call me cheap. I got in line to go inside and listened to all the old ladies moaning about having to stand in line. Get out to concerts much? Loll… They opened the gates at 6:30 pm and we got the pleasure of going through metal detectors. I don't know if that is a policy for the arena, I haven't been to this one in years, or if it was just for the Streisand concert. I heard one person say they weren't there for someone else's concert. I headed for the souvenir stand. Did a little shopping. However, I did get a bargain. I bought a t-shirt, a program, and two sheep that were wearing a red hat and a Barbra Streisand t-shirt. It should have cost me $125. I only paid $105. I guess someone doesn't know how to add in his head. Lol……….. Sorry, Barbra, but I don't think you will miss the $20. I went and found me seat, on the floor, seventh row, seat No.1. Thank goodness I was on the aisle. I just put my things on the chair and stood waiting for the show to start. The people next to me showed up and let's just say she wasn't a little lady. She was grumbling about the chairs being connected and not having room. I thought to myself. What are you complaining about lady, you are the one that is half sitting on my chair. I waited for the show to start and then I went and sat down on my half of the chair. :p Thankfully she turned out to be a very nice lady and we chatted a little bit about things. She is a cancer survivor and her kids had played a lot of Barbra Streisand during her recovery. So she was beyond thrilled to be seeing her in concert. The show was suppose to start at 7:30 pm. The orchestra leader finally got things started at about 7:50. Barbra rose up from under the stage right in the middle of the orchestra. She chatted quite a bit with the audience in between songs which was really nice. She said it was her first time performing in the Twin Cities, in fact her first time just being here. She said she had heard that we were going to be hosting the next Republican convention, and that was all she was going to say about that. There was a lot more she could say, but she would save that for later. She talk about the Mall of American. She said she usually does her shopping on line, but she had to check out this big mall. On the way though she spotted this restaurant she had heard about that had amazing cheeseburgers so she had to stop and have one. Then back to the mall, but then she spotted this Chinese restaurant she had heard about and had to stop there too. Getting back to the mall. However, one more stop for some dessert. Then she realized it was time to get back for the concert and she didn't have time to go to the mall. Lol… I am willing to bet it was all just a story, but it was funny, and she obviously takes the time to investigate the cities she is going to. She had the group Il Divo with her. They came out two or three times to sing with her, and once while she took a break they sang alone. They were really pretty good. If you are not familiar with them, they are a group formed by Simon Cowell of American Idol fame. They are a cross between Boy Band and Opera. Great voices and they blend beautifully. One is from France, one is from Switzerland, one is from Spain, and one is from Colorado. And they are all pretty good looking too. Imagine that in the record industry. :o lol……. She did a question and answer session for a few minutes. Apparently some people as they came in were given the opportunity to write down questions for her. One was from a lady that had brought her mother, who was a concentration camp survivor, to the show and just wanted to Barbra to say hi to her. The whole auditorium erupted into cheers. It was a really nice moment. She had her George Bush impersonator with her. He comes out wanting to sing a duet with her. He makes a mockery of the English language just like the real one. In fact he is the guy that has played at some of the White House dinners. He wanted to sing Happy Days Are Here Again, and Barbra was like, You know that is the Democratic Party's theme song. He suggested a couple more of her songs and she was like, No I don't think so. So she offered some suggestions. "Guilty" or "Send in the Clowns". Then his phone started to ring and he pulls out this red cell phone. Barbra was like, The red phone is a cell phone? He looked at it and starts to put it back in his pocket and says, If it's important they'll call back. Barbra told him to answer it because what if it were important. He starts talking and was like, No I can't come right now. I'm with Barbra. No not mother, Barbra Streisand. No I can't come. She might sing a duet with me. Finally he said he had to go. It was really pretty funny. Sadly, the show got over about 10:10 pm. I could have listened to her all night. It truly was a dream come true for me. My concert going career may not come to a close, for I have seen Ms. Streisand. Disney World and Barbra Streisand in a little more than two months. What an amazing time I have had. I am so thankful for my blessing.
