Okay, better late then never, here is my entry about the Minneapolis Pride last Sunday.

I left home about 8:30 am because it takes close to 2 hours to get there (unless thirteenrocks is driving) and the parade started at 11 am. It was pouring rain when I left home, but was very nice when I got up to Minneapolis. Unfortunately, it went from really nice to DAMN hot really fast.
The parade was okay, but I would classify it as being Gay Lite. I swear a third of the parade consisted of politicians asking for votes. Then there were all the "advertiser" entries. You know like Wells Fargo Bank, Saturn cars, Edina Reality, radio stations, etc. I guess it is nice that they show their support, but I wasn't really thrilled when Edina Reality went by and one of their guys shouted, "Are you gay and want to buy a house?" Excuse me??? A guy standing next to me must have been a local/state politician, because whenever a politician in the parade would go by they would wave at him or come over and chat with him. Didn't look familiar to me.
When the parade got over I headed down to Loring Park where they hold the "festival". So I strolled through the park and picked up all those lame brochures and handouts that they always have at things like that. I got a button advertising the play, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas starring Sally Struthers, aka Gloria from All in the Family. That could almost be a riot to see. There were a few hot guys around. I think it was Redken hair products had sent out some hot college guys to hand out freebies. They know how to advertise to the gay community. lol... Talk about eye candy.
By this time the lack of sleep and the heat was starting to get to me. Afterall, I am normally sleeping at this time of the day, and I was dumb enough to go out without any sun screen. I KNOW SHAME ON ME... I thought I would take a break from the walking and I sat down and called my friend, angieblue, to pass a little time. I was trying to pass some time, because the Block Party concert didn't start until 5 pm. I was kind of thinking I might not make it, and should just head for home. I stuck it out like a true glutten for punishment.
I made my way up to the bar and paid my fee. The airconditioning felt sooooo nice. Unfortunately the concert was outside. And they didn't get started right away at 5 pm. First a local group sang cover tunes for about an hour. I was kind of fading, but hanging in there. I was really just waiting to see Thelma Houston. She is basically a one hit wonder, but kind has a gay following. Don't all disco queens??? Anyway, this couple sits down next to me on the parking lot fence thingy, and we chatted a little. After awhile she looks at me and says you are really red and you should have a cool cloth for your face. I laughed and said the bigger problem was that I was so tired because I hadn't slept all day. We chatted for a little while and then they decided to go back inside until the main performers came on. She said she was going to bring me a cold cloth when they came back. So sweet. After awhile, her comes back and yes, she didn't bring me a cold wet towel. How sweet of her. Shortly after that this paramedic that had been patroling the crowd comes over and askes if I am okay. I told his yes. :) Finally Thelma Houston came on. She was really pretty good. Looked good, sounded good. You have to love old disco queens. A little later this guy comes up and asks if I am doing okay. He apprently was a friend of the paramedic or the guy that my lady friend got the towel from. Aww, people care about me. :) I told yes, I was okay. Thelma ended with her one hit, Don't Treat Me This Way, and I waited a little to see if they would bring out Kim English right away, but they didn't, so I decided to head home. I thanked my lady friend for being so sweet and left. When I got to my car, I cranked the air conditioning. That felt marvelous. I got on the road and headed for home. I think I slept most of Sunday night, and was still able to lay down Monday and sleep all day.
I wound up getting fried though. My forearms and face looked like a cooked lobster. But they are slowly getting better.
MUST REMEMBER SUNSCREEN NEXT TIME.........................

I am baby-sitting a patient tonight and guess who his nurse is???
That's right, Miss Shithead herself.

So I would like to dedicate a song to her tonight.
"The Bitch Is Back" by Elton John. :p
