Wednesday night I drove up to Minneapolis to see the stage play, Take Me Out, at the Mixed Blood Theater. Take Me Out had won the Tony for best play in 2003. My friend, Kevin thirteenrocks, went with me. If you read his recent entry it probably gives a better discription of the night. The show is about a mixed race baseball player. He is the star of his team and they are on the way to winning a third straight World Series when he decides to come out of the closet. Not surprisingly this causes a lot of tension for the team. The play looks at the obvious homophobia, and also racial tensions. I knew the basic story line before hand, but I didn't realize it would get as dramatic as it did. Sometimes, I felt as though the script pushed things a little to far for dramatic purposes, but sometimes in this day and age you do have to beat the audience over the head to get a point across. I would have been happier with a little more subtle approach. The show does contain nudity and adult content. There is lots of swearing (never my cup of tea) but it isn't overly gratuitous(sp?). Afterall, we are talking about men playing baseball. They even have a working shower in the show which is used a couple of times. From the theater person in me, I found it very interesting how they used it and it didn't cause problems for the actors on stage afterward. Water on stage is not a good thing when you are trying to walk acoss the stage. They had a grate built into the floor so the water could drain away. The theater is a converted old fire station. The outside arcitecture is beautiful. I love old buildings like that. Unfortunately, you don't see any of that on the inside. It is strictly a theater. I usually go to shows by myself, so it was so great to have Kevin to go along with me. Thank you Kevin After the show, we stopped at TGIFridays to get something to eat. Then we ran over to a bar to see if there was anything going on. How can a city the size of Minneapolis be so dead? Okay, it was Wednesday night, but really. Maybe we were just to early or at the wrong bar? Oh, I forgot to mention, on the drive up to Minneapolis we drove through little snow showers periodically. Give me a break already, it was April 27th and it was snowing? Thankfully it didn't amount to anything. Kevin was ready to mow his lawn even if there was 20 inches of snow on the ground. lol...

You will all be happy to know that the new president of the NRA(National Rifle Association) has got the perfect plan to keep our schools safe. She thinks that the teachers should be allowed to carry guns. Just what we need, guns brought into schools, intentionally.
