Winner of the best job in the world contest A 34 year old man from the UK was chosen to administrate the tropical island called Hamilton, near Australia.
Ben Southall had no fewer than 34,683 opponents for the job. His job is to explore the beautiful island and to keep an online journal, probably something like a blog, where he must describe his findings, along with pictures and video footage.
The island is part of the Great Barrier Reef, off the coast of Queensland (in Australia's north-east). This job was part of an online campaign called "The best job in the world" that was launched in January. It is meant to promote Australian tourism, which has been in decline in the past few years. Southall will be paid 110,000 dollars for his 6 months stay. He has a beach house at his disposal, with a swimming pool and golf course. According to the organizers, the campaign has already been a massive hit. People from all over the world read the announcement and were interested in the job.
