WRONG.
It all is dependant on 'those that understand how to do it', can do it and 'those who have no idea how you can do it' can't. It's nothing to do with natural talent or any other myths about learning music.
Early on in my guitar playing journeys I was often perplexed by certain individuals who were 'not the brightest crayon on the tree', yet they could play really neat solos on the guitar, whilst I (who was taking music training) could only play a few kiddies tunes.
Apparently , a particular five note scale may be the secret, which five note scale? The minor pentatonic scale.
From a technical perspective any group of five notes might be called a pentatonic music scale however the one that interest us as guitarists is the minor pentatonic music scale.
Extensive research has revealed how the notes of the minor pentatonic scale can be found in almost every culture on the planet, this is a classic universal music scale not to mention explains it's popularity (both on guitar and in music.)
Music of the whole earth:
Here's something to consider; in the past, people worldwide working in isolation (from each other) reached exactly the same (or almost the same) group of notes.
Why 5 cords? easy, people have 5 fingers.
So why do the cords within the scale vary (slightly) from country to country? Again, that's an easy one, it is because of the size of the individual's hand.
When a person in India is creating a wooden flute the length between the holes is going to be slightly differ to a flute made in Africa - it seems sensible doesn't it? The instrument maker would craft their musical instrument to suit the size and form of their hand, this makes up about some slight variations in the same group of 'universal' notes.
