sunday is always the day where my domestic side takes over. i rarely have plans on a sunday, so i use the time to clean. i can usually talk darren into cleaning the litter box (when it's his turn) and helping with laundry, and he claimed bathroom cleaning responsibilities a long time ago (i cleaned the toilet one day and he actually seemed a little offended because that's his job!), but i kind of take everything else upon myself. because i'm better at it. darren's a spot-cleaner at best. me? i sweep under the rug. i mean literally, i lift up the edges and sweep out any rogue dirt underneath. i move the couch and sweep the spot where it usually sits. i'm a friggin' machine.
i also cook. weekday lunches are so much easier when i just make a big batch of something-or-other on sunday and we just eat on it until it's gone. today it's jambalaya - the same stuff, kate, that we made with erika in our hot pots freshman year. delicious. it's awesome to be able to just throw a portion into some tupperware and take it to work. then i don't get sucked into the temptation that is lunch buying options in downtown minneapolis. because you know i would totally eat chipotle and myburger every day.
but sometimes my domestic afternoons get a little out of control. like, i made lunch/dinner for darren's "lunch" break (his weird work hours make for strange mealtimes), whipped up a big ol' batch of jambalaya, and now i reeeeally want to make peanut butter cookies. but i'm not going to because all that stove usin' has caused our apartment to reach a balmy 82 degrees. pshhhh.
on the up side, it looks like it's going to rain. our newly re-potted tomato plant will love that, despite the fact that i watered it this morning. our jalepeno has sprouted it's second pepper and there are flowers now where more peppers will soon appear, and the green pepper plants got ridiculously tall seemingly overnight and look like they're about to bust out a bounty of green goodness.
and! AND! sweet corn is in season RIGHT NOW. we gobbled down a bunch yesterday and it was so good i nearly wept like dan aubin cried over his salmon that one time.
i love food. i should've been a restaurant critic.
anyway. i got a three day weekend coming up in t-minus 12 days. we're going to the magical land of bagley, wisconsin. i walked through town via google street view earlier today and got freakishly excited for the trip. mom booked hotel rooms for me and darren and kyle and jenna so we don't have to figure out where to sleep. none of the grandparents have the space. so! not only do i get to see my family and show darren the root of my roots, we get to retire to our hotel with it's pool and hot tub and cable tv.
and we can go for food and drinks at the bagley hotel.
and my grandpa can turn 80.
mmm, vacation. it's so close i can taste it. it tastes like root beer barrels.
