the month of august is going to be insanely busy for me. let me tell you why.
brenna has a former coworker from the jeune lune who is directing a show called 4:48 psychosis. it's a production by thetwenty percent theatre company, which is run exclusively by women, and produces shows written by women within the last 5 years.
brenna is designing and running the sound. natalie, the director, needed a stage manager and brenna called me. i exchanged a few emails with natalie today and, well, i start saturday.and it's paid. not a lot - $150 stipend - but there's something to be said about being paid to do theatre.
so i'll be busy. i won't be home much on weekdays and i might have to do some schedule adjusting in regards to socializing (such as the state fair and a planned sushi date [don't worry, i'll still be at the fair and the date is still on]). and i'll probably be sleepy. the one other downside is that tech week is the same week that kayla is going to be gone, so by the time i might want to jump in front of a bus. but i enjoy SMing and i miss it.
i haven't read the script yet (i just got it today of course, but you can also read it online), so i don't even know how the show is. the first rehearsal i'll be attending is at the director's apartment, and of course i won't know anyone, so i'm also nervous. but i'm looking forward to this. ----- 4:48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane directed by Natalie Novacek August 29-September 7, 2008 The Soap Factory, 518 2nd St. SE, Minneapolis
There is no greater honesty in art than the art we create in order to purge it from ourselves. The title refers to 4:48 a.m., the darkest hour before dawn, and the theme is suicidal despair and psychosis, a state in which the normal boundaries between waking life and dream life, between the self and others, collapse. 4:48 Psychosis is composed of monologues and dialogues whose content includes exchanges between patients and therapists, notes about grief, mental anguish and psychological distress, caustic accounts of the therapeutic use of drugs, and diary entries. Not recommended for youth.
