i wish i'd hear you whispering low [08 Jul 2007|02:03am]

[ music | "field below" - regina spektor ]

so, i just acquired regina spektor's "begin to hope" album (seriously, b, what would i do without you?). regina spektor is one of many artists i hear about for a long time, listen to a little, but don't actually get into until it's at a point where a lot of people are all "what took you so long?"

anyway. i'm pondering her voice. not just hers, really, but- right. i feel that the reason i like so much of the music i like- i'm just going to keep interrupting myself. i appreciate amazing voices. don't think i've forgotten the wonder that is michael ball, anothony warlow, philip quast, and the like. i just don't think a person needs training and/or a broadway/opera-quality voice to be good. there's something to be said about artists like regina, or ani difranco, or craig minowa or ben gibbard or colin meloy. you can hear the honesty in their voices.

i'm not saying the aforementioned stars of musical theatre lack that quality. absolutely not.

in the end, they're all in it for the same thing. expression. right? people act or sing (or both, or paint, or whatever) for, yeah, the enjoyment of others, but also because it's a part of themselves.

there's so much vulnerability there. i'm amazed.

i love art.

don't wanna be forgotten
