don't hate the playa... [10 Nov 2006|12:09pm]

did you know that jake gyllenhaal's uncle works at the star tribune? his name is anders gyllenhaal and he is the editor and senior vice president. you learn something new every day (ps: i dare you to click that link. and make sure your sound is on).

once upon a time i went to an "impeach bush" protest. in doing so, i missed class. my journalism professor asked me to write an article for the sword about said protest, so write it i did.

what did i recieve in response to the article? why, hate mail of course!

today i got an email from kaitlin, the editor. some guy who lives in the area and is "local resident, concordia supporter, and frequent reader of The Sword" had some opinions about both my article and the one erin wrote about habeas corpus.

as far as recieving hate mail goes, i laughed quite a bit. frankly, i was more insulted about his repeated referrals to me as "miss johnson." i think i'm going to begin my response with "while you and i are clearly in disagreement, mr. williams, i will spell your last name correctly- a courtesy you did not extend to me."
or something like that.

he says "I was troubled after reading the latest issue of The Sword, troubled by some of the student’s erratic opinions and lack of control when expressing them in the paper."

to which i must say what about this erratic war we're waging?

he also said "Miss Johnson’s article reveals no intellectual insight what so ever."

just like there was no intellectual insight into this "global war on terror" that voters just resoundingly rejected at the ballot. tra la la. i would, at this time, like to direct you to my current icon.

anyway, he attacked the paper as well for choosing to publish our articles. i'm sure he had no problem with greipentrog's story, which was right below erin's, which talked about how liberals are "full of hypocrisy" and "ought to be ashamed of themselves" because of one violent protest.

writing this response is going to be a good time, i think.

*edit: i totally didn't know it was veterans' day until i tried to call a government office (to check on the status of my passport) and couldn't get ahold of a human because of the whole federal holiday thing. ha.
