i know i've mentioned this- i wrote an article for the sword (at the request of their faculty advisor) about the protest. a humorous exchange of emails ensued. i bring to you bit of that exchange:

prof:
I dig it. Dig the ending, too. An edict of good writing is “when it feels like it’s done, get out as soon as possible.” You have done that and done it well, methinks.
You’ve a fondness for the semicolon that I’d love to cure, but other than that—nice, nice work.

me:
Have you read the latest issue of Fibs & Fables? Tim Sailer wrote about the semicolon being his favorite punctuation mark. It’s my favorite too. But I’ll keep that in mind.

prof:
I did read Tim’s piece. He’s next on my list.

i proceeded to forward the email to tim)

tim:
Eric sent this to me this morning:
"...do not use semicolons. They are transvestite hermaphrodites, standing for absolutely nothing. All they do is show you've been to college."
- Kurt Vonnegut

i still love the semicolon.

i stayed up late to accomplish some work. i made progress but was not entirely successful.

*edit: it's amazing how prominent that dang semicolon has been in my life in the past 24 hours. today's white ninja comic is am-ah-zing.
