9:23p - USA 2007: travelogue #2
here's an email i sent to Mom, Czar, my brother, Paul and Dante on May 27:
Hi! Just shooting you a quick email. It's been a hectic, fun, crazy whirlwind week, and we're all soooo happy! They give away a lot of free stuff to people in the crowds, and I now have so much stuff that I don't know where to put it! So I have a lot of stuff for all of you, and I have some really cool stuff for a certain college boy. :P I just wanted to tell you about this guy we met today. He saw our Philippine Outpost patches on our jackets, and he introduced himself as Antonio, a Pinoy member of the 501st now living in Vancouver. We hung out while watching the Trooper Olympics, and we were talking a lot. Then I saw his name badge, and saw that his full name was Antonio Martin. I said, "Oh, we're probably related somehow." But he said his parents were from Bicol and Antipolo, so I figured he was a distant relative. Later, he mentioned a cousin who had come from the province, and I asked where that was. He said Zambales--specifically, Castillejos! You know who he is? The guy I met was Ton-Ton, brother of Miguel, son of Undo, grandson of Tito Vir! It was so amazing that it gave Ron goosebumps. Who would have thought that I would meet a relative in the 501st, and at CIV? Their whole family is in Vancouver, but Deirdre is studying in New York. Tito Undo will be in New York next week, and Ton-Ton gave me his number so we can call him there. Isn't that great? I hope I can meet him and Deirdre. Anyway, I need to sleep now. Tomorrow, we're hoping to catch previews of the new Clone Wars, the Star Wars episode of Robot Chicken, and an interview with Billy Dee Williams. :D Oh, and a journalist for a local Pinoy paper interviewed us, haha. Our picture was in their paper today. I'll bring copies home. Daming Pinoy sa 501st! Love you all. See you soon!

9:30p - USA 2007: travelogue #3
i sent this email from New York on June 3:
Hey everyone! We're in Las Vegas now, and it's very hot. Mom, Boks, the heat and the dry climate are similar to the weather in Riyadh. It's so hot that you don't really sweat, but your skin gets very dry very quickly, and you're often thirsty, so we always have water with us. We're staying in the house of Allan Jordan, who is the son of Tita Divina, Tita Baby's best friend from ortho college. He has been feeding us so much! We probably lost weight in LA because we were walking so much, and we even missed meals or didn't eat on time. Here, Allan's driving us around and bringing us to good restaurants and cooking us meals! Obviously we're not refusing the food, which makes Allan very happy. :D And we just love to eat. Yesterday alone, from the airport we just passed by the house to drop off our big bags, then we went to an Asian buffet because Oneal wanted me to try snow crabs legs; unfortunately they only served that for dinner. That's okay though, because Ton Ton said I'm not missing much. Then we went to this big electronics store, Fry's; you can imagine how much fun Oneal and Ron had there. Then we went to dinner at this Thai place with really good pad thai. Mmmmm. There were also spare ribs and short ribs, chicken and satay, and shrimp rice! Oh wow. We're gonna get fat here. Today we went to Radio Shack, because the brothers wanted to look at more gadgets. I'm not sure where we're going after lunch, but we might go to the strip tonight. We'll be uploading more photos soon, but here's what Ron uploaded so far: http://picasaweb.google.com/drronrosero/CelebrationIVDay1 http://picasaweb.google.com/drronrosero/CelebrationIV501stMixer http://picasaweb.google.com/drronrosero/CelebrationIVDay2 http://picasaweb.google.com/drronrosero/CelebrationIVDay3
We're leaving for New York on June 1, and ron will be going home. We'll be staying with Tita Divina, so I can email from there too. Miss you all, and I really wish you were here so we could all have fun. See you soon!

9:34p - USA 2007: travelogue #4
i sent this email from New York on June 3:
We've been very busy tourists today! We woke up at 10. I guess we were tired from the flight. Dennis made us brunch, and then we headed out. We took the bus and the train, and got off at the 53rd St. and 5th Ave. station, which was near the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Art and Design. We didn't get tickets to go in; there wouldn't have been enough time to see everything and take in all the sights. We walked down 5th Ave. to Central Park, where we saw so many families walking and lying on the grass, sunbathers, guys playing football and boys playing softball. We saw street performers and musicians, RC boats on the manmade lakes, and hotdog and ice cream stands everywhere. We also visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art; again, we didn't bother buying tickets, and we just browsed their extensive shop. Mom, I remember all those MMA catalogs you looked through, hehe. But they weren't selling hieroglyphics sets anymore. :P From there, we walked back through Fifth Ave. and found our way to Grand Central Station. Oneal said as we entered, "Wow, it IS grand." Oh, it was so beautiful that it took my breath away. How many movies have we seen thath were shot there? How many classic Hollywood icons have made their way through there? And we were so lucky, because we caught this free photo exhibit called, "New York and the Movies." Oh, I was so happy I cried, especially when one section featured A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
I'm such a sap. We also got to see the Rockefeller Center and the NBC store, where we got Heroes pins at a discount! There's a story there which I'll tell next time. Anyway, we also made our way to Times Square, which awed Oneal. "Look at all of this. And we came from Vegas!" Bright lights, big city! We had dinner at a small Indian place off Broadway, supposedly the oldest Indian restaurant in New York, then went around Times Square again; we saw the MnM's World Store and the Hershey's store before we went back on the train and the bus back to Queens. Tomorrow we hope to watch Stomp. :D We'll also visit the World Trade Center site, maybe Empire State, and Chinatown. Dennis will show us around. :)

10:21p - USA 2007: travelogue #5
email from New York, June 4:
Wow, today was certainly unforgettable. We went to the Empire State Building, and the view from the top really is breathtaking. It was nice and windy up there. too. We also went to Battery Park, Wall Street, the World Trade Center site, St. Paul's church right in front of it, Chinatown for lunch, the Village, Little Italy, and back to Times Square to get some New York cheesecake. We've also had some real Italian pizza, at Lombardi's on Mott and Spring. Oh wow, that was yummy. We didn't get to see Stomp. Dennis made a mistake with the tickets, and got them for June 10 instead of June 3. He felt so bummed about that. I was disappointed too, but it's okay. Gives us a reason to come back. :P It also started raining in the afternoon, so the weather turned from cool and windy to very cold and quite wet. It was like signal number 2. The difference is that here, when it rains, it gets COLD. And windy. I was wearing a thin dress, since it was so hot the day before. If Dennis hadn't let me his jacket, I would have frozen to death. I had to take a hot shower as soon as we got here. Our flight to SanFo is at 11 tomorrow. There's a bomb scare at JFK airport, so security will be tight. It's also a Monday, so traffic will be bad. The taxi is picking us up at 7am. Pictures will be up soon!

10:30p - USA 2007: travelogue #6
email from San Francisco, June 6:
We're in San Francisco now. It's so cold! We're here in Daly City, where 80% of the population is Pinoy, hahaha! We are staying in the house of Tita Malou and Tito Jun, who are the barkada of Tita Baby and Tito Boy. Sila yung sa radio group nila in the eighties.
It's so cold here! Oneal got a car rental from the airport, and we drove to Daly City. The fog is so thick that visibility is limited! All those rice cookers talaga o. And you can feel the tiny water droplets on your skin, and you can see the fog rolling. At first I thought it was really pretty and eerie, pero lintek! It's not so pretty when it's 2 in the morning and you're shivering from the minute's walk from the car to the house!!!
We arrived yesterday afternoon, and we came to the house to drop off our things and shower. Then we went to get our bags from Noel's cousin, since Noel brought our costumes from LA when he drove to San Francisco with his aunts. Noel is now on his way to New York. Chris is still here in San Francisco; when he was walking around Target one day, someone recognized him and called out, "Hey drummer boy!" Hahahaha! Everyone watches The Filipino Channel here.
Then we visited Oneal's Tita Nene and her partner, Tito Arnel. We had dinner with them. We got lost going to their house, and we got lost coming back, because Oneal's phone ran out of battery, and that's where the GPS maps were. Plus the fog at 1 or 2 in the morning is really thick; we only had a visibility of 20 feet! You know how bad it was? At the intersection near the house, we couldn't see the church right across the street!
We have a full schedule while we're here. We're meeting up with the 501st who are here on the 7th, and having dinner with Oneal's high school barkada tomorrow. We also have to pick up a laptop for Oneal's boss, and we might be able to visit the LFL office here in SanFo. :D
