Okay, I know I'm not writing towards a sports-oriented audience, but hear me out on this one, because I'm engaged to a man who loves football, so I hear about it, meaning in this instance, so are you.

Bill Belicheck coaches the New England Patriots football team, who happened to go 16-0 this season - the first time an NFL team had ever done it. Because of this, Mr. Bill wins the Coach of the Year award. Not too outrageous, right?

However - the very first game of the season, the New England Patriots, and Mr. Bill himself get caught cheating by video taping signals the other team was using during the game. Mr. Bill gets fined $500,000, and hands over tapes and other evidence.

My response is - and they still picked him as Coach of the Year? Down with Pro Sports (except hockey)! It just irks me.

I'm sure you all were enthralled by this post.

I'm in Fargo. Crysten's wedding is in two days. I'm so freaking excited and feel so unprepared for what feelings may come with this. We'll see.

I saw Megan Arvig tonight. I found it ironic that while I'm in Fargo to be a maid-of-honor for my best friend's wedding, I saw my high school best friend. Small world kind of thing.

I'm pooped. I haven't seen my house for almost two weeks. It's been fun, and this weekend will be amazing. But I start a new job on Monday and have hardly given it a thought. Things will go fine - my biggest question is how am I going to get from St. Paul to downtown Minneapolis to be at work at 8 a.m. That'll be a puzzle to figure out on Sunday night.

Today was a wonderful day of snow and snow tubing. I had never been to Primetime tubing before in Breezy, and my dad had a gift certificate so Andy, my dad and I suited up and trucked over there to participate in wonderfulness. It was pretty fantastic. We did a lot of tandem tubing, and had races down the different lanes. You can get going pretty fast on some of the lanes. There were at least 3 different groups of massive families (aunts, uncles, cousins and all) and they did a lot of the tandem tubing too. Their problem was they had little kids who would stand at the end of the lane. We almost wiped them out a couple times.

Being at home has been wonderful. It's been the perfect blend of being lazy with my parents, getting some wedding stuff done and eating food. My dad received snowshoes for Christmas, so I also took those for a spin around the yard.

I am also updating on my brand spanking new laptop.

Christmas was a lot of fun, minus the driving in some snow. But hey! It was snowing on Christmas! Who is really going to complain? It was beautiful.

Now I'm in Pequot until New Years Day, so hopefully I'll be getting some wedding stuff done.

I'm DONE with college!

I had to turn in my photos and finish my Hitler's Germany final today. Done.

I'm not exactly sure when I'm going to know that for sure. Maybe when Crysten leaves. Or her wedding.

Tomorrow my parents are coming down and throwing a grad party of sorts for me at the Nugent St. house. Basically, they are buying Leann Chin for everyone. Heather, if you have a way to get down here, you totally should.

I had the best visit to the Bear Center today in my entire collegiate career.

I gave a check to the cashier - it was a scholarship check, which gave me a positive balance in my account. My last semester of college is all paid off (until the loan payments really start).

The cashier was even friendly on this visit and gave me some good advice. May my future visits there be infrequent and just as pleasant.

I'm sick of this question.

I think having Frankie ask me if I'm pregnant (and thus the reason I'm getting married) is just the needle of the proverbial haystack consisting of those questions. In front of multiple people, no less.

Seriously.

Luckily, a hot bath, a good book and a glass of wine relaxed me quite nicely.

I have to do not one, but two backbends in our tap routine. One of those turns into a back walk over Chicago-style. I also have to pretend to get drunk, dance on a chair and puke on Jo. It'll be great.

Lately though -I've been apathetic about going to dance class. I really don't look forward to it. That makes me a little said.

We learned the time step today in dance. Except it was different! For the tap routine I'm a wide-eyed innocent girl who gets drunk (because of Jo, the bartender) and taps around. Crazy.

rock and a hard place?! [26 Sep 2007|11:28am]

The following is a conversation I just had with a one Aaron Singleton

Singleton: So
I totally got kidnapped

Stephanie: what?!

Singleton: and got my camera stolen
yeah

Stephanie: kidnapped?
for real?

Singleton: yeah
Fun night . . .

Stephanie: what happened?

Singleton: It was after dark, and I was alone
that was my first mistake
(by the way, I made a lot of mistakes to put myself in the situation)

Stephanie: so are you okay?
you obviously got out of it
who kidnapped you?

Singleton: This drunk guy came up to me and started harassing me, and these two guys told me that they knew another bus home
yeah
I'm ok
I wasn't mugged
just taken into a small corner bar
and not allowed to leave
while they stole my camera

Stephanie: wow
I'm so glad you're okay

Singleton: The worst part was
I didn't want to make a scene
because I didnt' have my passport on me
and if the cops would have come

Stephanie: oh no

Singleton: I would have been thrown into prison
Rock and a hard place . . .

Swimmin' in the Sea [12 Aug 2007|11:55pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

I went to update and realized that Katrina had beaten to most of it. For those of you who don't read Katrina's blog, here is a recap:

Someone stole our lawn flamingo. A serious disappointment for the household.

Katrina and I trekked the 1.5 miles to the (presumably) nearest Chipotle (downtown St. Paul) only to find out it was closed. Cossetta's made for a nice back-up. But man, trekking in 90 degree heat isn't always the best idea.

Katrina and I, along with Brian and Jon, went to Irish Fair (I've been meaning to go for 3 years now), only to get 5 songs into Gaelic Storm's performance (who are really good live) when they shut it down because of lightning. Who gets scared of lightning, honestly? Also - for the Pequot Four - remember the guy from Ren Fest that always hit on us - the weird bald pirate/flamenco dancer/whatever other costume he decided to wear? Trina and I toooootally saw him at Gaelic Storm, to no surprise.

I went to Ikea today, then to Anna's apartment where she cooked food from a Rachel Ray cookbook. I had cookbook envy, and must now purchase said book. The meal was very tasty.

Tomorrow I am supposed to start my new job with no job description and no settled pay yet. Hmm, I should have held off on this one.

Ode to Information and Technology [10 Aug 2007|11:32am]

Today was officially my last day in IT. I know I had a "last day" last summer, but I made a comeback. Now unless something radical changes, there is no chance for me to come back.

And it does make me sad.

At the risk of sounding cheesy, I love the people in IT. It was a group of people that I could either get along with really well or make fun of. And it was good.

From a Star Tribune article:

"There's no reason to feel unsafe driving across any bridge in our state," inspector Eric Evens said.

None? No reason at all? Forgive me for being a bit hesitant to swallow this down just two days after I received frantic calls from all over the nation wanting to know about the safety of me and my loved ones.

[28 Jul 2007|04:53pm]
I have discovered (thanks to the Herzbergs) a lake in the Cities that I like quite a bit. Andy and I have spent some time over at Lake Nokomis the last two days, joined by Jon and Anna today. The beach visit usually goes something like this:

Get there, set up towels
Play Scrabble and/or read a book
Get in the water and revel in its goodness
Get out of the water and dry off via the sun
Repeat from the Play Scrabble step.

The lake is surprisingly clean and far less crowded than a place like Lake Calhoun, even though they aren't that far from each other. If it wasn't for the airplanes taking off and landing so close, I would forget I was in a big city.

Last night was a "Welcome Back Jon and Andrea/Goodbye Andrea" party. Jon and Andrea were a bit disoriented and very tired from their ride back from Israel but very much wanting meat, so they got the Double Deckeroni pizza, which had twice the meat.

Speaking of meat, I spent all day in the sun, which has made me hungry, so I should go take care of that.

This summer, while it has gone fast and had some crappy parts, hasn't been all that bad. I love the house and my housemates, I met a lot of cool people through Minnesota Chorale and have been thoroughly amused by watching Jack and Audrey chase each other around the house continuously. On the other hand, I desperately miss my friends. I'm sad that this weekend was the first time I had gotten into a lake since Memorial Day and I'm sick of waiting to hear about jobs. But other than that, how can one complain when you stay up all night talking to your roommates about Harry Potter?
