Well, we're home. And by home, I mean HOME! All my stuff is unpacked and put away and everything. As happy as I am to be home (because, I DO tend to start getting panic attacky when I'm not in my own surroundings), I'm kind of sad that it's over already. You know, like all the build up to Christmas and BOOM! it's over. [sigh]

Almost ready to leave for the airport. I'm showered and packed, just waiting for Patrick to get out of the shower and we can be on our way.

Another long day. I'm even more tired than yesterday as I went to bed at 3am and got up about 8:30am. It was a great day though. Got to sit next to Alan Tudyk and Mark Sheppard and talked to both of them. Jewel didn't sit next to me but I got to talk to her as well. I won an signed "Terafyn' Space Monkey" signed by Nathan in a Silent Auction and had Jewel sign it later. There's more to post about but again, tired. Flight home is tomorrow.

Very tired, had an awesome day with seeing Yan and Raphael Feldman (who are hysterically funny) and Morena Baccarin (who seemed a little overwhelmed?) and Adam Baldwin (AWESOME! and he sat next to me at the meet and greet Desert Party...SQUEEE!). I'll update more when I have time.

Btw, this is also a drunk post but I'm using my back button tonight...you know, habit.

We got to the hotel in LA around 5pm tonight. We hooked up with Laurie and her son and had dinner. They were still on EST so they went to rest after dinner. Patrick and I went outside for a cigarette and met a bunch of other people here for the convention so we stayed outside for a little while. Now, we're just hanging out in our room but we're getting excited for tomorrow.

Stupid blurty, still on EST, had to correct the date and time again.

We spent the afternoon at Sea World today. It's one place we always love to visit and we have to see the Shamu show. We did get soaked but luckily we dried off fairly quick but DAMN that water was cold. We're back at Deb's for the night and we decided to skip the San Diego Trolley Tour tomorrow so we could get an early start and hopefully miss rush hour traffic. I've decided to send some of my luggage back via UPS so we don't have to lug quite as much with us on Monday so we'll stop there before heading to LA and then we'll be at the hotel all weekend.

Okay, I know it doesn't look like I posted yesterday but I did, just take my word for it. I marked it private because it's a copy of the letter I sent to the Better Business Bureau in response to the stupid company who, so far, won't refund my money for that DC AfterDark Tour back in October.

    As for today's post:

Yesterday, we went to Hard Rock Hollywood for lunch with Rian and that went back to her place. She made us chicken noodle with mashed potato and we watched t.v. and played Scattegories and Uno. Good times, good times. Unfortunately, we had to leave her this morning. We headed out around 10:30am for the Wild Animal Park. We enjoyed ourselves and got to see the things we wanted to see and do the things we wanted to do. We both wanted to take the Safari Tour - done, I wanted to feed the Lorikeets - done and Patrick wanted to see the Cheetahs - done. We left there and headed to Target so I could get some hair spray since mine had spilled in my luggage. Luckily, it was in a plastic bag so the damage was minimal. I also ended up getting How I Met Your Mother S2, Religulous and Zack & Miri. (I also bought The Curious Case of Benjamin Button later on at a convenience store). From Target, we headed to Dave & Busters (a restaurant/arcade). My cousin, Debbie, met us there and we had supper and then played in the arcade.

Edit: I just noticed that this posting was listed for Thursday, at 2:28am, instead of Wednesday, 11:38pm. Strangely enough, my Blurty seems to still be on EST instead of PST. I corrected the date and time. I'm not bothering to correct the time on the actual Thursday entry since it's still on the correct day. You may now return to your regularly scheduled program.

Arrived safely (and a little early) in LA this morning. Got to Rian's around 12:30pm. Went to In&Out Burger for lunch, took a nap and am now stuffed from a delicious dinner after taking a much needed nap. Jenn's chicken fried steak is well worth the trip and I'm totally going to be spoiled because Rian's making chicken noodles w/ mashed potatoes tomorrow. I'm going to burst by the end of this trip, let me tell you. Now, just hanging out with friends and having SUCH a nice time.

I'll be in California in less than 24 hours! WOOT! I'm almost completely packed, just have those few odds and ends you can't pack until just before leaving. Also, I still think I've over-packed so I may go through things one more time. It's so much easier for guys. [sigh] According to my son, he's packing one pair of jeans (in case the ones he's wearing get too dirty, he said with a smile) and enough shirts, socks and underwear for the week. Knowing him, everything will just be crammed in the suitcase too.

    All's well that ends well
Just spent over three hours in the Emergency Room again. Only this time it was with my mother. My husband came home around 9:30pm and asked me for my parents address. I answered him and he told me that there was a call to my parents' address for someone having chest pains. It had just come over his pager so he came right home to tell me. I called my parents' number and my mom's neighbor told me that my mother was having chest pains. The ambulance wasn't there yet so I said I would meet them at the hospital. They got there very shortly after I did. My mom was talking and her color was okay. She wasn't in pain anymore or anything. Their still not sure what caused it (possibly it was just really, really bad heartburn). They drew blood and took a chest x-ray and an EKG. The blood work and x-ray were fine but her EKG was "slightly" abnormal so the doctor told her she could go home if she really wanted to but since he didn't have any previous EKGs to compare this one too he recommended she stay. She chose to go home. She said her last EKG showed a slight abnormality too. My mom worked as a medical assistant and was an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) for years so she knows the signs of a heart attack and considering where the pain was and what it was like, it doesn't really point to heart attack. I trust her to know her own body so I was okay with her deciding to go home. We had sent my dad home about a half hour after she got there because there was no way he would have been able to stay awake so I brought her home after they released her. My first thoughts when I heard "chest pains" was my dad because he has a history of high blood pressure. So, all in all, not a bad night after all considering what the alternatives good have been.

Went to the pharmacy to pick up a script for my thyroid med and there was a script of Tylenol with Codeine waiting for me there as well....since last Friday...when I had called my doctor saying the pain was severe and I needed something...and never got a call back so went to the emergency room. Nice to the nurses were on the ball in letting me know my doctor HAD done something besides ignore me. I did call the dr's office when I got home and the receptionist apologized but also gave me the excuse that they're "crazy busy" on Fridays. Ummm....that's an excuse for incompetence?

I also dropped off my insurance paperwork to them to fill out and get back to me. The person to whom I gave it to tried to argue with me that my surgeon (who I don't even have an appointment with yet) needs to fill out the form because my primary care doctor doesn't know when I'll be able to return to work. I must have explained three times that I had called the insurance company and that it was okay to leave the return date blank. Once all this is done and over with, it's time to go on the hunt for another doctor...again. I just want one that I feel listens to me (doctor AND receptionists/nurses) and takes my complaints seriously and doesn't treat me in a condescending manner.

Went to the specialist today and I'm going to need surgery. This will be probably the beginning of December. Luckily, I pay for disability insurance and so I called them today about filing a claim and what needs to be done. I also need to bring paperwork to my primary care doctor so she can fill out her portions. What a headache (not that all the pain is in my head [doh]).

    Also, still leaving on Monday.

    How time flies
Twenty-four years ago today, I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl. TWENTY-FOUR YEARS! Yet, I can still remember it perfectly. Tonight, I made her her favorite dish: tuna casserole. I never understood people's aversion to it. My family loves it except for my youngest. I think it might be the recipe which is my mom's. It's just tuna, medium egg noodles and a cream sauce (flour, milk and a bit of salt). I know others make it with Cream of Mushroom soup and that does sound icky to me.

    Happy Veterans Day!
    Happy Remembrance Day!
    Happy Birthday, Megan!

I got the book "Heatwave" yesterday. The plan was to wait to read it on the plane next Monday. Of course, I started it last night. I only through two chapters but I like it so far. When I went grocery shopping today I bought another book for the plane ride. If I don't feel like reading, Patrick has a very long battery life on his Mac so we can watch DVDs the whole plane ride if we choose. I bought a splitter so we can both plug in headphones. I really should start planning on what to pack.

Well, I called the specialist that the ER told me to call today and they couldn't get me in until Friday so I'm sticking with my appointment on Thursday with the original specialist I made an appointment with last week. Bah!

I am going out later today shopping again because for some reason, spending money makes me feel better. My brother and sisters are going in on a flat screen t.v. for our dad for Christmas and Target has one on sale. I'm only putting it on lay-a-way today but at least I'll get it for the sale price. I still need to get the money from the sibs which probably won't be until after Thanksgiving (11/26th). While I'm at Target, I might check out some other Christmas gifts because, you know, shopping is fun.

I also need to finish Patrick's "Jayne" hat. I had made him one a few years ago but he felt the colors were to bright and doesn't want to wear it to the convention. I found some duller colors and made it this past weekend but it's a bit to big so I'm going to make a smaller one since it really doesn't take a lot of time to knit up.

    5:17 pm
Took another Vicodin last night and I think from now on I'm only going to take half a pill instead of the one. What cracks me up still is that they prescribed it as "Take one or two pills every six hours". Loved ones, I take one and I'm out for 10 hours. Still in pain when I'm not on the Vic but learning to live with it since what else am I going to do for now? I did clean out my "mud room" today which is super tiny and wasn't strenuous at all. Just a matter of throwing things away and sweeping the leaves out because we have a habit of leaving the slider open and just shutting the heavy door leading to the room shut. We call it a mud room for lack of a better term. It's just an area large enough for a shelf and some coat hooks and my garbage pail really. I keep some small appliances that I don't use on a regular basis on the shelf and my cleaning supplies there.

    2:37 pm
Never heard back from my doctor yesterday so I headed up the ER around 6:30pm. I waited two hours in the waiting room with a mask on (mandatory for all waiting as a precaution because we do have cases of H1N1 in the area) before being seen. Of course, I was told there was nothing they could do but they DID give me drugs and the name of another doctor to call on Monday who might be able to get me in on Tuesday (the doctor himself isn't in on Mondays so I'm supposed to just call his office). I will say that everyone at the ER from person taking my info, right up to the doctor were very nice and sympathetic which was at least better than being treated like I was wasting their time. And I got Vicodan...which leads me to the question: How the hell does House pop those babies like candy and still remain standing? I got a 5 mg dose (with 500 mg of acetaminophen) and a half hour later, it knocked me on my ass (thankfully, not literally, cause that would have hurt). I then slept for 10 hours! And I only took one and my script says I can take one or two every six hours. Ummm...think I'll stick to one at bedtime, thank you very much.

Also, I'm babysitting today. No way around that one. Megan has to work and my husband had conference for EMS (Emergency Medical Services) to attend today. She's napping right now and I think it will be easier for me to take her shopping than hang around the house. At least then she's in a carriage and I'll be combining the sitting with the standing and what the hell, it's not like I don't hurt one way or the other, anyway. Maybe shopping will make me feel better.

    2:30 pm
Just called my doctor and told her office personnel that there was no way I could wait until next Thursday. I'm waiting to hear back. If I don't get an answer of "yes, we'll do something today", I'm going to the Emergency Room. I really want to be better before my trip for a multitude of reasons but just not being in pain NOW is the top of the list.

Amanda, tried the "donut", it doesn't help :-(

For the first time ever, I've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Remember last month, when we were given wrong info as to where to pick up our bus for the After Dark Tour in DC? (See my entry for October 5th). I never did hear anything from them so this past Monday, I contacted them again. Today, I had a reply in my e-mail. All the reply was was an e-ticket for an After Dark Tour to be used before April 30th, 2010. That would have been helpful if they had sent it within two days of my original complaint, you know, while I was still there! There was no apology letter, no acknowledgment to my actual complaint, just an e-ticket. Sorry, no, that does not cut it. So a complaint has been filed and hopefully I will get my refund. The company did have an A- rating with the BBB so I'm hoping I'll have success.

On a more positive note: Back in September, I renewed my anti-virus. (See my entry for September 30th). I was billed twice and called to get it straightened out. I was supposed to get a refund within 5-7 days but still hadn't as of this past Monday so I called them again. (I was quite productive on Monday, apparently). Today, I had an e-mail saying my money would be credited to my checking account and when I checked my bank statement online, the money was back there. So Yay! for Trend Micro.

    8:16 pm
I talked to my friend Paige tonight for the first time in about a year. It was nice to hear from her and we both bitched about hard it is sometimes to stay in touch with those we care about. I met Paige ten years ago when I worked for the company she still works for. Some of you readers might remember that job. I was fired in May of 2000, just in time for the Summer of Chat. Worked out well for me, in the long run and I found a great friend there as well. We're hoping to get together the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

My son, Zach, went for his physical today for the Army. He'll find out by Monday, the latest, if he can get Combat Medic as a job and if they'll offer it, he plans to sign the papers and enlist....active duty for six years, inactive for two. I'm not really happy about this but it's his life and his decision. [sigh]
