wow. brandon is on fire. not even five whole minutes into the new day, and already he steals the trophy again. i gotta make him get one of these so i can get back-to-back quote of the day. quote of the day: "they're interesting. it's like voyeurism. but, you know, without the $4.99-a-month charge to your credit card bill." brandon, on live journals. |

so this sucks. here i am at work, listening to travis' good feeling for the first time in months, and i came to a depressing realization. the verse arrangement of "funny thing," the song that closes the album, sounds exactly like something i wrote in the fall. well, technically, something i wrote in the fall sounds exactly like the verse arrangement of "funny thing." and that's the part that sucks. because i was reasonably proud of the something that i wrote in the fall. how did this happen? no idea. it was a completely unconscious thing. i never even really paid attention to "funny thing" before. and yet ... i must have, because there's even a vocal quirk in what i wrote that's almost a spot-on match to a vocal quirk fran healy makes in his song. and frankly, this scares me. how am i supposed to write original stuff with all the music that's floating around in my head, tacitly and explicitly influencing me? damn. it's all the beatles' fault. they started this. argh. on a more hopeful note, thank goodness it's friday. i plan on relaxing in the next few days, so i can hopefully shake the cold this weekend and be social for the first time in almost three weeks. return to the old routines. hang out with friends. hit the movies. go shopping. work out. get some sleep that's not assisted by tylenol flu or dimetapp. here are my goals for the weekend. 1. open that savings account. i was too tired to do it last saturday. i will be too tired to do it tomorrow morning. but i will probably be less tired tomorrow than i was last saturday, so logic dictates i should just go ahead and get it done. 2a. buy a set of weights. self-explanatory. 2b. have salespeople mock me when i ask for help carrying weights to car. ibid. 3. go to the movies. more than once, if possible. the parental units said something about seeing chicago tomorrow morning, and i do want to see it again. however, this may conflict with goal #1. we shall see. also, owen highly recommended adaptation. owen and i disagree on jake gyllenhaal (i think he's the best young actor working today, owen doesn't) and ghost world (i think it's one of 2001's best movies, owen doesn't), but i'll take his advice and give him a third chance. owen, if i don't like adaptation, i'm severing all ties. just kidding. 4. finish the glen burnie sidebars and profiles. since i'll be in glen burnie for the tour of the tattoo studio, i can get the final information i need to get this writing done. and then i can take a week off or so before i start the tech schools piece for my editor. 5. rewrite something i wrote in the fall. sigh. |
