well, i'm glad the pressure of that first entry is out of the way. phew. getting started is always the hardest part, i suppose.

right now, i'm in my office at work -- i shouldn't be doing this, but i won't tell if you won't -- and i'm a little disappointed. we were supposed to have a decent amount of snow last night, and i guess we sorta did. i mean, hell, it's enough to postpone the opening of schools in my county by two hours. but i had hoped for enough that i could reasonably go into work late too. it didn't happen.

i'm wearing a big old wool hat right now. it's kind of itchy, but it's better than the alternative. i got a horrible haircut last night. i can't stand it. i like to wear my hair a little shaggy and long and unkempt, especially in the winter. keeps my head warm. i asked the woman to take about an inch off everywhere, you know, just a trim. now i'm left with what is essentially a near-buzz in the back while the top is inexplicably four inches or so. i look like a cross between one of those mid-'90s progressive kids and a shop teacher from 1952. what happened?

i should've known better. i've had this woman before. she seems totally uninterested in how you tell her you want her to cut your hair. and on top of that, she was quite distracted and flustered at one of her co-workers over some sort of perming form. so i guess she just did what she wanted to do, though why she would want to do this to anyone is faaaaaar beyond me. it's a good thing my hair grows quickly. but if i were criswell, i would predict lots of interesting headwear for me in the next few weeks.

great clips? i think not.

so i was so amused by the movie chicago last week that i got the soundtrack. good stuff on there.

anyhow, i'm listening to it now, and on the album is a track called "class" that was cut from the finished movie. it's a duet between the catherine zeta-jones and queen latifah characters, kind of a tongue-in-cheek, woe-is-the-world song, but with some lovely orchestration and harmonies to it. anyways, i keep listening to it because it's so damn amusing. this is the part that keeps cracking me up:

OK, i'll say it here. since the new year, i've dropped 11 lbs. yay me. go me. seems like a lot, but that nasty-ass stomach flu i got helped a lot, so most of the loss was an accident. anyways, since then, my stomach has been like a shrinky dink. i just had three pieces of pizza for dinner, and i feel like i'm going to explode. oy. i weigh again on january 28, so ... we'll see how that goes.

but being sick this week really took it out of me physically. i am exhausted. ... wait, this wasn't even supposed to be a real entry. this entry was supposed to be just to announce the new quote of the day. first, i have to set it up. i was talking to good ol' silly blake this afternoon, and he asked me where i went to high school. i told him arundel high. he asked me what it was named after, and i said anne arundel county. to which he replied ...
