Serious Fucking Update. [28 Apr 2003|08:23am]
No, not that serious.

It's 8:30 AM here, and it's already almost 60, going to be a gorgeous day outside. I think I'll take advantage of that somehow. I'm going to go look for a light weight jacket at the trendy used thrift store, as much as I think they're a little lame because they charge way too much for used clothes. I've been to "real" thrift stores, t-shirts there are usually between 1 and 3 dollars. T-shirts at this place are between 6 and 10, so I guess there's more of a charge for handpicking special and "cool" retro t-shirts.

Whatever, it's all good. I'm starting to wind up school, which is exciting, 100%. I can't wait to be done. My only regret is not starting a band earlier, I'm only 22, but still, I'd like to have gotten my roots going a little earlier, so I knew more people or bands or whatever. Nowhere near a big deal.

I'm listening to Cave In's "Antenna" right now, it's one of the greatest records ever. Their record "Jupiter" would probably be my most influential and favorite record. Just an amazing, amazing rock band from Boston. I always highly recommend them to everyone, especially if you're a little tired of all the rock that's out there today.

I've been trying to write some of my own material lately, and actually come to think of it, I spent a few hours listening to old tapes of things I'd recorded. This is stuff from like 6-8 years ago! It can blow your mind, because you know it's your playing, but you don't remember it at all. I've really just got to record some stuff here, just to have something.

I saw "Identity" Friday night, I liked it. Total twist ending I didn't see coming, but I tend to just let the movie go, I don't try to figure things out. Why ruin the movie that way? Then you're expecting something and it either meets it or it doesn't, and some people who think they're super smart usually get let down. Anyways, I loved it. Cusak is great, saw a trailer for "Pirates of the Carribbean" which looks pretty cool.

Alright, breakfast, more later.

Rock on. [25 Apr 2003|12:21am]
First rehearsal tonight.

Jeez, this thing just took off out of nowhere. To be honest, about a week ago my friend wrote in his journal that they were seeking a guitar player. On a complete whim, I just started to play around with their songs. And here we are now, I learned three this afternoon and rocked out tonight in their rehearsal space.

Unreal, it's so much fun, I haven't had that in a long, long time. Not since my high school "band", which was really just me, my brother, and two friends playing during the summer in my garage. Its just simple rock music that, but there's something about playing rock with your best friends that's just inexplainable.

Well, today was fun, but tiring. Need a few days off to take some time to myself.

Gotta conquer Zelda on the SNES, fo shizzle ;)

A gig. [24 Apr 2003|08:29am]
Well, as fate has delt me a hand, I'm going to fill in as a guitarist for my best friends' band.

Their guitar player quit, and now suddenly isn't "availible" to do a couple more gigs. So it looks like I may be in the drivers seat on that one, so to speak.

It's a lot to live up to, he was a great guitarist, so I do'nt want to disappoint.

Rock on.

Updates, Updates, Updates [17 Apr 2003|10:44am]
[ music | Slayer - "Angel of Death" ]

Actually there isn't anything going on.

I'm starting my search for a job. I've got to find something, where I can earn at least $1000 a month. That'll cover rent, bills, and food. Beyond that, I can't afford to care anymore.

As much as I love music, I can always download it. I only buy one or two CDs a month anymore (as opposed to my old one or two everday habit). So I can go hungry for those couple CDs or DVDs. Everything is else downloadable.

And I'm one who's against downloading for the most part. Not because the artist loses money, but for the simple fact that from downloading, smaller, better, more creative musicians who are actually doing something meaningful don't make as much money and often just get dropped. They don't get good tour support from their label, and you're less likely to see them in concert, where they make most of their money.

But, not to get preachy. Still, I'll download if it means I'll be eating meals, and not just cereal.

I've got to get out today. Just to be outside. Even though it dropped off from 83 yesterday to 33 today.

Take it easy.

I've seen like four or five now, that's so lame.

I'm obsessed with bands and movies just like everyone else, but I'm not gonna front being somebody famous, that's just low.

Positivity. [11 Apr 2003|10:16am]
I woke up and felt really good today. I have no idea why.

I've been in a funk lately. It's got to be the weather. Even though it looks cloudy out today, it still looks like it'll be a good day.

After some serious thought I think I'm going to contact my old friend who plays bass. He's just completely a sick player, the best bassist I've ever seen. And having been through Berklee, that says a lot. He's not just all flashy, he understands what makes good bass lines and isn't all over the place on it when he doesn't need to be. But he can pull out that flashy stuff in an instant too. Plus he's a killer drummer and can do a little guitar.

He's got that, and I've got the amazin' guitar skills, I can do scratch and work turntables, and I have good production and recording know-how. We're a sick team. The shit we've come up with over the years is great. Usually just covers of stuff, but we always put our own twist on it.

We should be like the Neptunes or something, just produce everyone and make money. That'd be pretty fun actually!

We've been playing since high school, like 5 or 6 years. He's been one of the only people I trust musically, he's got such a wide variety in taste.

Yeah, definitely need to start some jamming up again. I'm stoked about this.

I didn't drink any coffee yesterday, so as I said, I went to bed at like 10, and woke up at 9. Lately, I've been sleeping in until like 8 or 9, and being pretty lazy. Today I feel energized. Yeah, I did drink coffee this morning, but only to wake up, because I didn't want to sleep all day.

Got to hit up the grocery and class, sorry to bore you so much :)

Ahh, where to begin. [10 Apr 2003|10:03pm]
Nothing to say really.

Things kind of dying down here, didn't drink any coffee today so I'm beat (and it's only 10 PM), but I haven't been going to sleep until like 1 or 2 AM, so it's good.

I bought "Black Christmas" today, which is a great movie. It's basically the very first horror/mystery movie where you see a view from the killer's eyes, but never actually see the killer. Later made famous by "Halloween" and "Friday the 13th", this set the groundwork for a lot of horror movies. It was pretty creepy, and that's something I don't just give out to any old horror movie.

I'm tempted to by "The Ring" too, but I don't know which version. I've seen both, the Japanese a long time ago, and then the American when it came out in theaters. The American one had better visuals, but the Japanese had a lot more detail in the plot.

Why do I love horror movies?

I have no idea.

I guess it's the mystery and thrill, and a little bloodlust. It's just something a whole lot of people aren't into, so I picked up on it. I was always intrigued by the covers as a kid, as my mom paid for rentals, I'd stare at them, imagining the nightmares it'd give me. One in perticular was the "Friday the 13th" series, I hated that mask. I didn't watch any horror movies until I saw the "Night of the Living Dead" 1990 remake on tv on halloween. It scared me pretty bad, and from then on I was hooked. Slowly but surely we started to rent out anything at Blockbuster that looked good.

Then I just started buying them, and thankfully the internet started to become as big as it has and I had a resource to learn about what to get and what to stay away from. I started checking out comic book conventions, because I heard there were a lot of bootleg videos there.

Yeah, a lot of bootlegs of the same old, tired stupid movies. "Faces of Death" and all that junk.

Only recently am I getting interested in movies from Europe and Japan, because they're completely uncomprimised and usually amazing works of art. Yes, I consider horror movies works of art :)

Thanks to Amazon and Ebay, I've got no problem getting anything sent right to my doorstep.

Wow, what an unessecary sidetrack.

Actually, I'm feeling a little more awake and think I'm going to work on my story a bit more.

Maybe I'll share some here soon. Just little excerpts.

'Night.

My stupid self conciousness. [08 Apr 2003|11:17pm]
I'm sitting here, on an old AOL IM name, staring at the name of a girl whom I believe to be near perfect.

She is remarkable, intelligent, attractive, funny.

And for some reason we sort of drifted apart at work. I don't know why. But more than likely, it's my fault. It always is. That's what you get when you're me.

Girls fucking fall in love with you so fast, then they fall out. I don't know why. It's probably because I'm too eccentric. That's not entirely true. I'm the kind of guy (at least I think!) who you have to get to know to be attracted to, and then once you know too much it's adios.

I mean, pardon me for being fucking different. Pardon me for thinking for myself!! :)

Anyways, this girl is and will forever be perfect (except she can't sing that well ;) ), and I am and will forever be too scared to say anything. It's too late now, it's been too long.

One can still remember days past. Good night.

Came to the conclusion yesterday that I really need to get back into shape. A couple years ago (while I was living at home), I was running at the track everday. Man, what a sight that was! When I frst started out, I could barely do 1/4 of a mile. Then pretty quickly I worked my way up to 2 miles. Then school started, and I was commuting, so it was too dark when I got home to go running (the track never left it's lights on).

So then I just sort of got really lazy, I exercise on and off, and I do a ton of walking, so I'm not in horrible shape, but I definitely feel a lack of energy. But I bought some good jogging shorts yesterday, and a water bottle.

And then it snowed!!

But it's all good, warmer weather is on the way, so I'll get out there as soon as it comes.

I've been going back through my music collection and listening to a lot of old stuff. A lot of Low, revisiting some Mr Bungle, Mingus, and a lot of world music. I need inspiration.

Here's a random thought I had.

Traditionally, if you were to look at every other country but America, "folk music" is usually the traditional music of that perticular country. Yet, here in America, "folk music" is usually some lesbian with an acoustic guitar crying and singing about how men suck. If it were supposed to be the traditional music, then America folk would be jazz or blues.

It just makes me mad sometimes that music in America always becomes a stereotype of itself.

I got nothing else. So I won't rant!

Fuck bullies [07 Apr 2003|04:18pm]
I'm watching girls on Montel who are telling stories of them just getting beat up by other girls for stupid reasons. One girl's torture was so bad, it caused her mom to have a brain anyerism and die.

I fucking HATE people who are mindless bullies. I was never picked on by bullies, because I'm not one who's going to take shit. Despite the fact I get down and lonely sometimes, I'm always extremely confident and proud of who I am, and it shows because I've never been harassed by anyone on the street, fours years of living in the city. I'm not a target because, to the cowards who mug and start shit with people, I am a threat. I am someone who won't back down from a fight.

And that's all bullies are, cowards. They don't expect people to push back (verbally OR physically), and when you do, they get scared. And then you've got them, it's all psychological. I don't understand it. I don't get why people feel the need to harass other people. All kinds, from guys who harass women by whistling at them to kids who get picked on and beat up.

There's my mini rant. Fuck bullies.

A bunch of random fucking thoughts. [06 Apr 2003|11:16pm]
I saw a commercial for "Married by America" ... this woman is upset because her fiance ends up cheating with some strippers at the bacheleor party.

SHUT!! UP!! You go on tv because you're so pathetic you can't meet someone in real life, and let Fox and America hook you up with someone. Not even just introduce you, but you promise to get married! Fuck you! You've got nothing to cry about, like this guy is your perfect match. You've known him for what, one, two weeks?

You can't care for someone that much after two weeks of knowing them. I could go find a bunch of perfect matches on a personals site, but how many of those people will actually have chemistry with me??

Ugh, tv has a new low point.

I'm going to buy 'Falling Down' tomorrow at Target, because it's 9.99, and it's a great movie with some funny lines. We all would love to be in Michael Douglas's position, just taking so much shit and finally flipping out and fucking everyone else over. As I said earlier, I'm just going to watch movies tomorrow if it snows. I've got one class in the morning, but then that's it.

I'm in the middle of writing a story right now. I think it's going well. I'm not sure if I'm even that great a writer, but I think I have good ideas and can tell stories well. It's going to be about this guy who's being chased by a mysterious figure (I haven't exactly figure this out yet) and ends up going insane. The important thing is that I love to write for myself. In no way would I consider it anything more than a hobby. Much like photography. That's something that is purely a hobby, despite the fact I believe I could make a living doing it. I just enjoy using it as an excuse to walk around and find perfect moments in time to capture.

I'm reading Aldous Huxley's "Island" right now. I read most of it my freshman year in english, but then I let it to some dick who never gave it back. I have a hard time reading books. I know a lot of people love them, but books are daunting to me. There are so many books that just look so average, even more that look awful. I never take people's book recommendations, mostly because I barely read. I read like three or four books a year. Mostly classic literature. Like my roommate said "There's a reason they're classics". They're all great stories, extremely well written. On the agenda now is still the "Lord of the Rings" books, "The Grapes of Wrath", and the above mentioned. What I love most is that they all cost next to nothing anymore, since most are summer reading assignments, I can get them all for $5-7 bucks a piece.

What I like about Sundays is that after Seinfeld at 11, they go right to King of the Hill. I used to hate that show, but I started to watch it a month or two ago and got hooked. I love the Simpsons, but I got way burnt out on them while I was in the dorms. I've seen every episode multiple times (along with the Cosby Show, Saved by the Bell, and the Brady Bunch). I have a fascination with Texas for some reason. Well the entire south west. I love the desert. It's wide open skies and "sparseness". But I guess I love the deep woods of the northeast for the same reason, except I like the green a lot more than the orange. And the ocean. That's a must have.

Well, I've ranted enough. Time for a flick.

Entry. [06 Apr 2003|06:41pm]
One day of sun and now we're supposed to be back to snow.

Sucks. Fortunately, I got my groceries today so I'll probably hit up Best Buy in the morning for some movies and then just lock myself inside. I hate the fact I have to go back and buy all these movies on DVD now. I start thinking "Well, I already have it on tape, maybe I should get something else first". I'm just now, spur of the moment, buying stuff. And I don't regret it!

I had a thought today that I should start a real journal where I write down everything that happened that day and what I thought, in case I lose my mind or have amnesia. I know that seems like an extremely weird thought, but it's how I think these days. Actually, I stole it from a show, where a kid had amnesia and had to have notecards explaining who everyone he knew was (what a terrible sentence). Like I have that kind of discipline anyways.

I guess I don't have anything to say really. I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do about my friends ditching me. Doesn't seem worth it to just cut them off, I'd rather make them feel guilty, maybe a little minor psychological torture. Maybe some prank pizza deliveries! I don't know, it still sucks, but I'm not sure how I feel yet.

There's this little spot in Boston that I go to frequently, it's right on the water, it's peaceful, quiet, and I usually do a lot of thinking and writing there. I like to write crazy short stories a la Stephen King, weird people losing their minds and going off the deep end. Anyways, I'll have to get down there to figure out what I'm going to do. With shitty weather though, that could be awhile.

Oh well, I've still got movies to watch.

I was just clicking through random journals.

Half of them are "Friends Only", the other half were "safety journals" for people who had Livejournals and needed a place to write their deepest secrets.

It's called a fucking 75 cent notebook from a drugstore.

What's the point of having this if it's friends only? Seems like an extra step to me, but what the hell do I know.

-none- [04 Apr 2003|10:25pm]
So today, at 3 PM my friends and I usually meet up for some tea, just have fun because we don't get to see each other as much as when we lived in the dorms.

No one showed up last week, okay, I kind of figured it wasn't planned (just got back from break). Again this week, no one shows up. I waited 25 minutes. I knew it was on this week. They're big fucking "rock stars" (in their eyes), so I guess there's not a whole lot of time for me between the messuse and dinner at Boston's fancy restaurants. Whatever.

It hurt. This week has pretty much been building into one shitty mood. I swear, usually I'm pretty upbeat, full of witty sarcasm. It's the damn rain. My hamster died today. I know that's not really significant, and it doesn't tear me up, but it just adds to everything. He was pretty cool, and only recently started to get friendly and come out, climb in your hand, climb in his little ball and run around.

After no one showed up, I came home and watched my favorite movies, and now I feel a whole lot better. My roommate and I went down to the mall, just browsed, it was nice to get out. I need that.

I haven't dated anyone in a year and a half or so. I got fucked over big time (it's a long story I'll likely share one day, in a nutshell, the first [and only] time I got cheated on). I'm not entirely experienced in relationships, I've only had a few. Partly because it's very hard for me to trust people. Well not partly, mostly.

I think at this point I'm looking for a specific type of girl. Definitely intelligent, with a good sense of humor who can take most of my sarcasm and bitter remarks (it's all in fun, I'm not seriously bitter). And I'm not high brow humor all the time. A good toilet joke is a good toilet joke! I like shy girls. Someone who doesn't have to be the center of attention. A sense of originality, following your own ideas and ambitions. I really like girls who have goals and are working for them. Positive outlooks on life a must. I know it's hard to be 100% comfortable with your looks, but if you're in the ballpark that's great. We should all just be proud of who we are. Just someone who can be a friend to a day dreamer.

Well, I'm feeling better. If you read this, don't hesitate to answer my "personal ad" I just dragged on about. Sorry you had to read that. I guess that's it for now. Time for Seinfeld. Peace.

"Tell him about the twinkie" [04 Apr 2003|09:53am]
[ music | cKy - "Shock and Terror" ]

I just saw this story on the John Walsh Show about a girl who was homeless and still put herself through high school and Harvard.

I kick myself for not being determined. It all boils down to what you are going to do for yourself. It's all about taking the initiative. Just get it done.

I've been thinking lately about getting back together with my friend who plays bass and started working on some new stuff. It's too hard to work on your own. There's no drive, no one pushing my limits.

It's freakin' snowing outside today, which sucks (as if that was necessary for me to point out). Still, it actually looks like it's just spitting here and there, so that's definitely better. I'll probably go see Phone Booth tonight. It looks okay, I love Forest Whitaker. A prime example of someone who's just a good actor and who made it. He's not completely jacked and ripped or the best looking guy around, he's just real.

I love movies, but I'm usually more drawn to the older things. Today, Hollywood is such a joke. 'Chicago' is the best picture?? C'mon. That movie wreaked from day one that it's just a movie Hollywood makes to pat itself on the back. There's no point to it, the actors are so far overrated it's hilarious. Catherine Zeta Jones? She shouldn't call herself and actor. She's a telephone spokesmodel. We live in a time where all facets of entertainment shove sub-par products down our throats. We don't have to take it!

I'm a firm believer in the fact that if the entertainment industry offered higher quality bands and movies, people would still latch on. General public is not stupid (despite how often I think so ;) ), they can handle more intelligent music and movies. They are rebelling by downloading music, they know when a movie is just going to be a bomb (Pluto Nash????), and they don't go. They're starting to demand the industry wake up and realize we are no longer the mindless drones of days past. Entertainment costs so much, we're not going waste our money.

The music industry is so good at what it does, they can market anything. You could take the most odd band and make it become a hit. It's just a matter of slowly turning the public onto the fact they don't have to settle for manufactured pop music. I feel bad for pop sometimes, it should be better.

There, that's enough of a rant.

Oh yeah, on the John Walsh show, they made that girl's story into a movie staring Thora Birch, whom it's no secret I think is pretty attractive and talented. That was an added bonus.

More. [03 Apr 2003|08:23pm]
Today was pretty bad.

I guess somedays my thoughts just dwell on less positive things. All I need is one good day to get out and walk in the sun. Most of the people I know get a little depressed in the winter, and especially in the rain. It's been raining all week. It's all lack of sunlight.

All I've been doing is playing Zelda and drinking Moxie. Right now I'm working on making a minidisc, which takes time because, unlike MP3 players, they record in real time, and I like to digitally label all the songs inside the machine once it's done. Yeah yeah yeah, that's boring shit.

I feel better now, and tomorrow will be better ... wait no, they're saying another massive storm.

Bummer. Maybe I'll splurge and get some new movies.
