On Sunday I moved out of home. The weeks preceding the move have been fairly anxious and doubtful but when I walked into my empty room early Sunday afternoon I knew immediately that this was the best thing I could be doing right now. It is strange having a new home, not knowing where the cups and bowls are, not knowing exactly how to get home after I've gotten off the bus at the stop that I think is right. But it's been lots of fun. My housie Felicity is lovely and amazing, all hugs and giggles, answering the most basic questions about how to turn the oven on, providing directions frequently and impromptu tours of the neighbourhood. I live a nice 5 minute walk from little shops which remind me of Leura at the Blue Mountains. Little cafes, bakeries, a supermarket.. The two other girls I live with have parallel tastes - we own heaps of the same cook books and cds, had a Shaun Tan swap/show and tell on my first night.

The boy has also been very patient, teaching me how to turn on my own stove, killing a European wasp in my bedroom - one that is apparently potentially fatal, one which I was very blase about. But I'm very excited about entertaining. My silver tea set is polished and ready to go and I have everything from strawberries to chocolate and funny biscuit things.

I've spent a good part of this week in interviews. The most fun being the ones I conduct for my writing/history project. I got to spend time with ladies from the local op shop - with tea and chocolate biscuits mandatory. They were very sweet and funny, great to hang out with, incredible to photograph and chat to. Then it was back to my old primary school to talk to the aerobics teacher who has been doing it for close to 20 years now. Playing the tapes back for transcribing I was initially embarrassed about how much I laugh during interviews - but it's so much fun and that can only be a good thing.

I've also been to a few job interviews - which are simultaneously exciting and nerve wracking. I always leave feeling quite exhausted - so much smiling. Fingers crossed for call backs next week...
