Siblings Of Dead Columbus Girl In Protective Custody
9-Month-Old Found Dead At Home Sunday

POSTED: 10:59 p.m. EDT August 25, 2003

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The siblings of a 9-month-old Columbus girl were taken into protective custody a day after their infant sister's death.

Candace Belcher was found not breathing on the family's sofa Sunday. Though autopsy results are not conclusive, the county coroner said there were suspicious marks on the baby's body.

The Department of Children's Services applied for custody of an 18-month-old brother and a 10-year-old sister based on complaints filed earlier this month.

This is the second time the department has had to remove the children from the home.

The second time children were removed? WTF! Then WHY were they taken back to an unfit home? You know, it pains me to see how the child service programs are severely incompetent. How many times do we hear this happening nationally - not just in my neck of the woods? It's very sad. Who is the child's advocate?

More on this in a few. My freaking program is locked up. GRRRR!!

Situations Hallmark doesn't cover...

1. I always wanted
To have someone to hold,
Someone to love.
After meeting you ....
( inside card)......
I changed my mind.

2. I must admit,
You brought religion into my life ...
(inside card)....
I never believed in Hell
Until I met you.

3. As the days go by,
I think how lucky I am ...
(inside card)....
That you're not here
To ruin it for me.

4. Congratulations on your promotion.
Before you go ...
(inside card)
Will you take the knife from my back?
You'll probably need it again.

5. Someday I hope to marry ...
(inside card).......
Someone other than you.

6. Happy birthday!
You look great for your age ...
(inside card)......
Almost life-like!

7. When we were together,
You said you'd die for me ...
(inside card)......
Now we've broken up,
I think it's time
To keep your promise.

8. We've been friends for a very long time ...
(inside card)........
What do you say we stop?

9. I'm so miserable without you ..
(inside card).......
It's almost like you're still here.

10. Congratulations on your new bundle of joy. .
(inside card).....
Did you ever find out who the father was?

11. You are such a good friend
If we were on a sinking ship
And there was only one life jacket ...
(inside card)........
I'd miss you terribly
And think of you often.

12. Your friends and I wanted
to do something really special
for your birthday ...
(inside card)........
So we're having you put to sleep.

13. Happy Birthday, Uncle Dad!
(Available only in Alabama, Mississippi, and
West Virginia).

14. Looking back over the years
We've been together,
I can't help but wonder ..
(inside card)........
What was I thinking?

15. Congratulations on your wedding day! ...
(inside card).......
Too bad no one likes your husband.

16. How could two people as beautiful as you ...
(inside card)........
Have such an ugly baby

I'm not feeling so great today. I think I may be coming down with something. I'm not doing a whole lot here at work. Just can't get into it for some reason and I cannot wait to get home and crawl between the sheets and rest . I feel like I haven't rested in forever.

Some wonderful news in our camp today. We got BEANS!! Oh happy day!

That's all for now. I promise to update more tonight.

A friend sent this to me, and I wanted to share it with you all. Regardless of your views or opinions on this war, supporting our troops is paramount. I think this really says it all:

The average age of the military man is 19 years. He is a short haired, tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to die for his country.

He never really cared much for work and he would rather wax his own car than wash his father's; but he has never collected unemployment either.

He's a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student, pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old jalopy, and has a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to be waiting when he returns from half a world away.

He listens to rock and roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or swing and 155mm Howitzers.

He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk.

He has trouble spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark.

He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use either one effectively if he must.

He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional.

He can march until he is told to stop or stop until he is told to march.

He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without spirit or individual dignity.

He is self-sufficient. He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens full and his feet dry.

He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle.

He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts. If you're thirsty, he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food.

He'll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when you run low.

He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they were his hands. He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job.

He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay and still find ironic humor in it all. He has seen more suffering and death then he should have in his short lifetime.

He has stood atop mountains of dead bodies, and helped to create them.

He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat and is unashamed.

He feels every note of the National Anthem vibrate through his body while at rigid attention, while tempering the burning desire to 'square-away' those around him who haven't bothered to stand, remove their hat, or even
stop talking. In an odd twist, day in and day out, far from home, he defends their right to be disrespectful.

Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, he is paying the price for our freedom.

Beardless or not, he is not a boy.

He is the American Fighting Man that has kept this country free for over 200 years.

He has asked nothing in return, except our friendship and understanding.

Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his
blood.
