NERD CHILDHOOD PRONUNCIATION. [16 Oct 2007|03:05am]
I have a Final Fantasy quotes widget on my dashboard. Yes I readily admit this. Anyway, one of the quotes is from VI, a game I first played ('twas under the guise of "III" on super nintendo) as a 7-year-old. The quote is "Ahem. There's sand on my boots!" (Kefka) and I remember thinking the guard's name was Ahem. I still say it like Ay-hem.

also:

Locke = "LOCK-ee"
Gau = "Guy-OO"
Narshe = "NARSH-ee"
Edgar = "Ed-GAR"
Figaro = "Fi-GAR-o"
Ragnarok = Rag-na-ROOK (rhymes with book. or rook, for that matter).
Fenix Down = "fennicks down" (we weren't yet smart enough to realize it was the shortened spelling of phoenix. because "down" didn't yet make sense with the word "phoenix".
fiend = "fend" that pronunciation didn't last long after I got made-fun-of for it by uncle john.

among many more.

but my favorite and most solidly-burned-into-my-mind pronunciation?

CHOCOBO = KOO-Kuh-BOO.

will never, ever, ever, be "cho-ka-boe". Just wrong.

Also it will never be Biggs and Wedge, only Vicks and Wedge. Early 90's mistranslations of names in games is best. All the remade remastered versions of those old classics suck now. Seriously, Fenix Down FTW!
