I told you I was obsessed!

I love dodgy poetry. I also love scones, in case you hadn’t figured that out. I think I have an addictive personality- if I like something, then I want to have it ALL THE TIME. But lately, I’ve noticed something interesting: every time I eat one of my favourite foods, something exciting happens. Maybe my tummy has special future-telling powers or something. For example: I made a humungous batch of scones for my Bible study group on Tuesday night. I brought along whipped cream in a plastic container, and a brand new jar of strawberry jam. And that night, my friend Chris Roe said grace like this: “Lord, thank you for this meal, and thank you for the baby that Treens and I are going to have in January.” We all started screaming and hugging. I had no idea that Chris and Treens were expecting a baby. That explained the pink champagne they had brought to dinner. Treens looked all girlish and happy, while Chris looked very proud and manly. So we did at toast, with me crying out, “To the Roe Foetus!” Which begs the question: is it rude to call someone’s unborn baby a foetus? I have friends who will be giving birth to the Coote Foetus. There is also the Clarke Foetus that is due this week. “Foetus” is like a form of polite address that I liked to use, like “Mr” and “Mrs”. In case you are wondering, I call myself “Ms” when I’m in a huffy mood (“It is NONE of your business whether I am single or married! Sexist! Sexist!”), and “Miss” when I am feeling young and girlish (“If it’s good enough for the girls of Jane Austen, then it’s good enough for me!”).

My other food obsession of the mo is chai tea. I feel rather exotic and sophisticated when I drink it. Although, I have noticed that it is usually served incorrectly. You’re not meant to serve it in a teapot, with milk and sugar on the side. It’s meant to come pre-mixed and milky. Anyway, tea purism aside, it usually tastes the same and gives me a mini caffeine buzz. The last time I supped on chai was on Wednesday night, when I was hanging out with my beloved. We were at a café that had THE BEST outdoor heating. Like, I took off BOTH of my jackets. I asked Geoff, “Can we move here under this heater when we get married?” Anyway, although the café had very very slow service, they did have a fab selection of magazines. So Geoff and I went though this year’s “Sexiest People” Who issue to see if we agreed with their nominations. We were in agreement that Scarlett Johansson and Johnny Depp were hot to trot in our books. Geoff remarked, “Johnny would have to be in there.” We also agreed that we were not inspired by Vince Vaughn (Geoff: “Poor old Vince. Not at this age.”), the boys from Home and Away (Carla: “Too oily.”) or Tom Cruise (Carla: “Creepy.” Geoff: “Yuck!”) However, we had problems with a few celebrities. I think that Lindsay Lohan has hot style and personality; Geoff thinks that she is “too…nyeeeh.” I think that Robbie Williams is sleazy; Geoff thinks that “he has a certain charisma.” I’m just glad that people don’t go around rating our sexiness. Although, you never know. There could have been café patrons eyeing us at that very moment, saying, “The guy has a cool beard, but what’s with the girl? Doesn’t she know that the all-black look was sooooooooo 90’s?” To which I would reply, “Um, hello, it’s called a UNIFORM, genius.” It does spook me when friends talk about people we know as “sexy”. I don’t know why.

Anyway, friends, it’ll be a week chock-full of work for me, so wish me luck with the designer handbags. I hope that you have a good weekend! Here’s to scones, chai tea and sexy people (whatever you define sexiness to be!)!
